With some regret I have to agree with the recent negative comments about the real ales selection since it re-opened
The people who have taken it over are locals and hats off to them for trying to make it a community pub.
It was never going to be 'New Oxford 2' and nor should it try to be.
If you like real ales, stick to the Oxford and Crescent

There is a lifesize bronze of LS Lowry sat at the bar now.
A permenant monument apparently, as it was one of his old haunts

The Crown and Anchor, Manchester
another average boozer around this part of town. It's a shame that Holts beer cannot be served in glass because of the idiot minority.

Sinclairs Oyster Bar, Manchester
It's a real shame this great old Shambles square boozer has been turned into a plastic glass serving nightmare.
On the plus side, it was 2.75 for two pints. maybe she miscalculated?

The best pub in Salford.
It's part of a nice little crawl down Chapel St.
I just hope when they regenerate they add a few more decent boozers and not all wine bars and clubs

I was recommended this place and went yesterday for the first time.
What a cracking little place it is.
Had a few pints of the Rum Porter which was excellent.
It's a bit of a well kept secret for now, I would go soon before word gets out
Not to be missed - In total agreement with this statement

The Briton's Protection Hotel, Castlefield
I concur, a beautiful pub, prices are steep & the service somewhat formal.
I hope it's not going to be lost with redevelopment

lovely charming bar on the outskirts of the 'Northern Quarter' aka Ancoats.
Nice Decorations and a wide selection of real ales & foreign bottled beer.
NO POOL TABLE THOUGH as stated in the brief

It's a decent boozer, typical holts pub.
the smell of sewers cometimes lets it down
a heartbeat of Manchester pub

I'm always interested to go to this bar.
They don't sell guinness though, which is annoying, but the alternatives are perfectly acceptable.

Quite simply, Manchesters best boozer.
Quality micro-brewery onsite, well kept ales.
Lovely interesting old building, well maintained.
always doing good trade.
Nice outside area now too.
7.3 rating does not tell the whole story

Beautiful & newly refurbished little back street pub, right in the heart of the city.
Tucked away gem of a boozer, friendly atmosphere, good choice of ales & now the smoking ban is in force a pleasant atmosphere.
a must see if you are visiting the city

I do like this bar, but it's always difficult to find a seat upstairs and getting too and from the bar is a pain.
Nice friendly service & interesting decor

The Northern, Manchester
They have finally got an entrance on Oldham St and boy does it help passing trade.
My visit on Saturday around 7pm was a good one.
I would definitely go in there again (despite the loud music).
Not one for real-ales fans and there are plenty of real-ale alternatives close-by.
Unfortunately they were all full of City fans post-match!!
