Angry Alys Wine Bar and Restaurant, Southsea
This is now Truffles Wine Bar & French Restaurant. Nice little place with a great garden...

One of my favourite pubs - great to do a crawl from the hole in the wall, stop here for an indian then finish the night the King Street Tavern just over Elm Grove. It can be a bit quiet in the week at times, but don't let that put you off. Currently they are carrying Doom Bar & Summer Lightening on the ales, kept fine. Lagers include Heineken, Stella & Amstel. There is a dart board with darts provided, with a standard seating area in the front, and sofas towards the back.
The food is superb - they are now doing mix & match smaller dishes or you can have a standard sized curry if you ask for one - they are also doing an All-you-can-eat for 12.95, unlimited starters & main meals. I have noticed no difference in portion size. They also do takeaway with 10% off.

Just a quick update about The Wheelbarrow - it is currently closed but there appears to be activity there. The conservatory has been knocked down at the back and replaced with a smaller shed like building, and there is newspaper over the windows but work seems to be going on inside. Hopefully someone is give the place a lick of paint, was always a nice little pub but was looking pretty neglected over 2008. Will keep the page updated!

The Phoenix, Southsea
Just moved over to this side of Southsea and is a great local, much more friendly than the other pubs on Albert Road (not that they are specifically unfriendly, but you know what I mean!). Only gripe is that Kronenbourg is a bit pricey at 4.00 a pint.
PS - It's mentioned below that Strong Island hopper is a IOW brew - it's not. It was made by Irivings (which is a Portsmouth brewery) in conjunction with local culture website Strong Island!
