The Evening Star, Brighton

This pub has deservedly got a reputation as a fine free house but a word of warning. Check the price list when you actually manage to reach the bar.
Brodies Citra is a superb 3.1 abv session beer but here it's in keg or top pressure form which I didn't realise until after I ordered.
I thought I'd misheard the lady behind the bar as it was so noisy but they wanted £5.20p a pint! That's totally unacceptable and uncalled for.
I'm afraid it will be a good while before I visit again.

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

My visit yesterday was my first for well over a year. Very disappointing. Not particularly busy and the range of beers seemed to consist of Cotleigh, Cotleigh and Cotleigh. That atmosphere which made this pub great was totally missing. I won't return in the foreseeable future.

The Cat's Back, Wandsworth

I visited yesterday afternoon and it was very quiet. The licensee introduced herself and she was most welcoming and courteous. Early days of course and once the word gets around CAMRA circles trade should pick up. Good location close to the Thames and Wandsworth Park. The Harveys Best was in lovely condition. The best I've had for a while. Well worth a visit.

The William Morris, Merton Abbey Mills

I went to this pub yesterday evening for a function. The upstairs bar and balconies were used. The bar wasn't very well stocked and the lager was warm. If one wants to drink lager it must be cold. 2 handpumps present but not used. The main bar of the pub had 5 handpumps and I tried 3 of them during the evening. The cost was between 3.70 and 3.90 a pint. Beer only moderate at best and exorbitantly priced.
Our friends had generously provided a barbecue on the balcony and burgers, sausages and chicken was served along with salads and rice. What a let down!
The burgers were initially served up seemingly well cooked but they were raw in the middle. The chicken was dry and tasteless. Seemed like everything had just come straight from the freezer.
It would take a lot to tempt me back to this place, especially with The Trafalgar and The Sultan just round the corner.

The Wellington Arms, Bedford

I visited this pub yesterday lunchtime and found there was a beer and cider festival on. I only had time for a pint as I had to get to my football match. I determined to go back in the evening to find the place packed to the gunwhales at 6pm!
Interesting mix of customers ranging from young to quite elderly (me!). Knowledgable staff and good service. Interesting range of beers.
Cracking pub. Thoroughly recommended.

The Shakespeare, Richmond

Drove past yesterday. All boarded up. What a great pub it was back in the seventies. Fella called Len ran it and he didn't take any nonsense from anybody. Great characters amongst the regulars. Terrific darts players. Heavily populated by roundsmen from the Express Dairy behind. When Len retired it was never as good although it was only in the nineties it really started deteriorating. My best mate died in 1999 and I only visited a couple of times after that. Musn't get too nostalgic. Still plenty of great pubs around!

Grove Park, Chiswick

I pop in from time to time but won't call in again. London Pride is now 3.40p a pint. But the real take on is the price they charge for a half. Not 1.70p but 1.80p. Apparently they top up the price of all the beers similarly if you only want a half. I must say the Pride is in good condition when I've had it but so it should be at that price.
