The Rose and Crown, Worthing

well run pub that often plays music on friday nights. recommended

The Whistle and Flute, Putney

always liked this pub but the gents has stunk of stale urine for over 10 years.

Star and Garter, Putney

odd, identity crisis of a place, full of dating groups of mid twenties professionals,
did not appear to have anything particularly going for it but fits the needs of the above market i suppose.
yet another waste of a decent location and space. this place is neither a pub, nor a bar or bar/restaurant and oddly lacks seating.

yet another white elephant on a brilliant site and the bogs still stink of piss and have poor cubicles

The Slug and Lettuce, Putney

its just so disappointing in here - service is ropey, the place lacks any atmosphere, the layout is poor and the clientele is transient. agree with 264, Putney deperately needs a destination venue - probably not on this site thought.

7 Mar 2010 22:48

The Fox, Putney

has improved a bit but this used to be a destination pub years ago and now it's just somewhere to watch football. such a wasted opportunity as the space, layout and location should make this a top boozer.

bar staff still pleasant but thick as short planks.

The Windsor Castle, Clapham Junction

proper, honest boozer, great for the footy and unpretentious meet-ups. fosters is only two fiddy a pint. a refuge free of braying yahs and posers. well done WC.

The Jamaica Wine House, Bank

waited an hour for food last time I was in here (prebooked, party of 8) and it was frankly, poor to average.

The Arab Boy, Putney

Have been using this place since Jim Thompsons banned football after the dreaded 'refurb'.

It has friendly regulars, welcoming barstaff and landlord - exactly what's required from a local and a refreshing change from Putney's ever growing (and unwanted), plural poncery.

nice.

Ship, Monument

always very popular.

prompt service.

2 Nov 2007 11:20

Abacus, Bank

destination for gelled wide boys and a few local geezers, for their big night out.

Great if your idea of culture is 'Nuts' magazine.

2 Nov 2007 10:44

The Crosse Keys, Bank

despite being virtually opposite my work place, no-one ever goes in here as it has no atmosphere and the service is possibly the worst in London and always has been - even when the place is quiet.

2 Nov 2007 10:38

The Cock and Woolpack, City Of London

twice (both fridays) in a month, they've had no draught drinks! unbelievable!!!

And though there is fish n chips on the menu, they don't actually have it!

a disgrace!

2 Nov 2007 10:36

The Windsor Castle, Clapham Junction

have installed heated 'smoking gazebo' in the garden and new seating/tables.

The Windsor is on the up and a few new punters are visiting.

4 Sep 2007 21:44

The Mitre, Holland Park

ludicrously crap service - bar staff totally unprofessional, just standing about like morons, or in small cliques. God knows what it's like when it's busy.

shame, as a great location.

rocked as 'The Raj', years ago.

4 Sep 2007 21:23

The Churchill Arms, Kensington

friendly boozer with nice locals and laid back atmosphere.

4 Sep 2007 21:18

The Whistle and Flute, Putney

does the gents still smell of ammonia from the stale piss, which has blighted this pub for a decade?

I like the pub but the gents are a disgrace.

4 Sep 2007 21:05

The Captain Cook, Putney

post refurb, business appears to have picked up, with some new customers appearing on the scene, in addition to the regulars.

No tellies any more, therefore Arab Boy for football.

4 Sep 2007 20:52

The Fox, Putney

they've errected a fixed gazebo in the garden for us smokers - outside TV's too.

Very slowly getting better, but still undermanaged.

4 Sep 2007 20:40

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

yeah, this pub has come back from the dead and it's all down to the folk who own/run/serve there.

might even tempt me to drink brown beer.

20 Mar 2007 23:26

Pavilion, Shepherds Bush

visited for QPR's recent 5-0 drubbing by Southend. 2 bars - one smaller and for pool, the other large with many tables.
plenty of screens for sports lovers and deep fried food a-plenty.

It'll do.

20 Mar 2007 23:22

The Shepherd and Flock, Shepherds Bush

friendly and efficient Irish pub with tidy East Euro bargirls.
Always fast at the bar and punters cooperative.

A personal favorite.

20 Mar 2007 23:12

Lost and Co, Putney

inexperienced staff and the sterile environment have spoiled my visits to this place.

Mecca for young twentysomething wannabe Putneyites.

Relax.

10 Mar 2007 23:55

The Windsor Castle, Clapham Junction

this is great as a no-nonsense boozer. fine for a few lazy ales in a totally unreconstructed way, or to watch the footy.

10 Mar 2007 23:30

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

just an easy pub to use - bar staff always prompt and efficient and prices (although recently increased), still amongst the cheapest to be found on the manor.

As mentioned earlier, the large (rear) bar, has recently been made non-smoking and this has encouraged some new punters and frequently left many of us puffers unseated and forced to move up the road to the Windsor Castle.

10 Mar 2007 23:24

The Montague Arms, Roehampton

was on it's last legs 10 years ago, haven't been in for about 4 years but it looked knackered then.

29 Jan 2006 00:49

The Kings Head, Roehampton

currently looks to be in the throes of extensive redevelopment.....

let's hope this historical old boozer gets some tlc by it's new owners and forthcoming clientele - she really does deserve a break.

Please god make it chav free and the hive of activity it was in the 70's when my folks used it on a Sunday. That big tree in the garden was my climbing tree for many years.

29 Jan 2006 00:44

The Rose and Crown, Wandsworth

a slice of old school Wandsworth.....this is what a lot of pubs used to be like...

Nothing to say about it whatsoever.

29 Jan 2006 00:37

The Hop Pole, Wandsworth

does what it says on the tin but i'll not go overboard - it's fairly unique because it is 'a pub', though, which is pretty bloody rare!

29 Jan 2006 00:33

The Ship Inn, Wandsworth

okay though slightly precious and a bit poncy.

I'd feel embarrassed to say b0llocks too loudly in a South London accent, for fear of inducing mass cardiac arrest in the herb eating clientele.

29 Jan 2006 00:28

The Queen Adelaide, Wandsworth

Jesus! They've spent about $20 billion doing it up!

This was a post Sunday league football venue for my team pre-refurb and was a pleasant 'old school' pub with decent punters. Has now been turned effectively into a restraunt with about 1000 tables - you're pretty much obliged to sit as there's little room to stand and booze.
Nice bar staff and good bogs but not a mans pub - place was ramjammed on the early Friday evening I visited, mainly with young couples and small groups. Has a slightly pretentious air probably bought about by the new punters coming from the new myriad yuppie flats recently errected next door.
Not bad if you're in the mood. Have a wash beforehand though.

29 Jan 2006 00:22

Zulus, Putney Bridge

stinking cess-pit of New World dross. Faliraki-on-Thames.

utterly pathetic.

29 Jan 2006 00:02

O'Neills, Putney Bridge

a pile of crap unless you're a student or dumb-ass New World type.

About as real as Turkey Twizzlers.

28 Jan 2006 23:57

The Slug and Lettuce, Putney

full of c0cks most of the time, who perceive it be a destination boozer. Well it is a destination boozer if you're a c0ck or have delusions of funky London being a Slug & Lettuce in Putney High St.

okay during the afternoon or early evening (before 7pm), though.
