The Squirrel at Hurtmore, Hurtmore

Went to visit the new "improved" squirrel after a recommendation from a taxi driver (don't ask...haha) and was rather dissappointed. The menu was somewhat uninspired and the drinks were horrendously overpriced...�7 for a large glass of wine!? You'd expect to pay that in London but not in a country pub surely?! Though I must admit our friends from the US were very pleased with the selection of lagers on offer even if they did cost an arm and a leg!
The staff were helpful though not particularly warm or welcoming and though there's no debating how professional they are both the husband and our friends agreed that the staff and decor lacked any real soul. The food was ok though to be honest it was nothing I couldn't have whipped up at home. Whoever has taken over has done brilliantly but its not for us and if I'm honest, didn't live up to its hype in the slightest. I wish them well but unfortunately we for one won't be going back.

The Mulberry, Chiddingfold

Absolutely loved this place, thought the food was wonderful and in no way as expensive as people are making out. Given the husband and I had a three course meal, I thought that the the �54 (excluding wine) was exceptional. I will most certainly be going back. :)

The Inn On The Lake, Godalming

I totally disagree with the other reviews. I think this is a really lovely pub, I went there for a work lunch the other day and thought it was superb. The food was great and even though there seemed to be too many of them on given the time of day, the staff were very friendly. I wouldn't bother taking my kids here as it didn't seem there would be much for them to do but will certainly be back with the husband for a nice dinner! Oh and personally I thought the decor was fine.

The Slug and Lettuce, Godalming

Is so much nicer than the other branches I have been to. The layout of the bar and the food were great although the service was slow. I waited at the bar for about five minutes while two waitresses chatted and messed about on their phones which was fine as it was quiet but I'd hope that on the busier lunches they are more alert and quick to serve.
All in all its a really nice night out, especially if you just want a chilled one. The cocktail list is pretty impressive and much more reasonably priced than somewhere like Old Orleans which is where I used to go for cocktails.
