The George Inn, Chideock

We always use this establishment each time we stay in Chideock and have never found anything but a friendly welcome. This is a very popular place to eat and each Palmers ale is well kept. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Steve, Emma and the staff deserve all the plaudits for all the work they do to maintain such high standards.

The Rock Arms, Romsey

This Pub has been closed for quite a long time but I am pleased to announce that it will re open in late April under its former name of The Rockingham Arms. It will hopefully return to its former high standards under the new ownership.
I will keep you all posted.

The Park Tavern, Eltham

Popped in on Sunday with my Brother in law for the first time and really enjoyed the atmosphere, friendliness of the staff and above all the range of Ales. Lion from Cotswolds, Exmoor Ale, Jennings Cumberland Ale were on as well as Hop Stuff from Woolwich Arsenal and a Brewery from Chatham. I had 3 halves and a pint which were all well kept and served at the right temperature. Didn't eat but the food is well priced for London and looked appealing from what I saw served. A very enjoyable visit. 9

The Seven Stars, Bristol

Went here during our visit yesterday and this is a place full of character AND full of characters. Marianne served us and my Ale of the pub was RCH PG Steam. I also had Dark Star Partridge whilst my friends drank cider and mild. Discounts for CAMRA members and I enjoyed the pub immensely.

The Kings Head, Bristol

Pint of the day was drunk here on our visit to Bristol. The Butcombe Gold was tasty and well served as were the other pints but this was top notch. Thoroughly recommended.

17 Apr 2011 11:43

The Cornubia, Bristol

Visited yesterday and enjoyed chatting with Jacqui and Phil who have done wonders with this place. Phil really knows the Ale and it was good to find out that he embraces SIBA. Ale of the Pub for me was marginally Auntie Myrtle from Herefordshire followed by the Cornubia Spring Ale brewed by Arbor Ales. A proper pub and I'll return in due course. Recommended.

The Rock Arms, Romsey

Lovely place that champions Ales from Hampshire. Usually a Bowman, fff or Andwells on as well as Flack Manor from nearby Romsey. Extensive and varied Menu which is thoroughly recommended if you've been out with your dog on Canada Common. This quiet setting belies how busy it can get and phoning ahead would be wise. The owners have had this dog friendly Free House for some time and it has been very good on all my visits. The Ale is well looked after and served properly. A gem of a pub.

The Roebuck, Richmond Hill

Our first port of call on Saturday. After the walk up the hill from the station it couldn't have been bettered. The friendly staff in the form of Dave & Inessa were serving the ubiquitous Pride but alongside were Purity Mad Goose, Woodfordes Wherry and - a new Ale for all four of us - Dorking Brewery DB Number One. A cracking selection which bucked the trend from certain nearby tied establishments. Ale of the pub was marginally Mad Goose but they were all top notch.Three of us ate from the interesting Menu. The quality of choice was spot on and the dishes were tasty and plentiful. All in all a great start to the day and I recommend it thoroughly to anybody in the vicinity.

Brouge, Bistro and Belgian Beer Cellar, Richmond Upon Thames

My first time in an authentic Belgian bar and found it relaxing and very different. My learned friends had all been to Belgium and I was happy to take their views and choices during our visit. We thoroughly enjoyed each Ale tried and they were impressed by the range of beer on offer as it should satisfy any discerning drinkers taste. Although we didn't eat, the food looked very good and will definitely try it next time in Richmond.

16 Mar 2011 07:29

The Triple Crown Inn, Richmond

Visited on Sat with 3 other friends and we all really enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere as well as the best pint of Brains 'Bread of Heaven' tasted outside of Cardiff. Will definitely return the next time back in Richmond.

16 Mar 2011 07:12

The Drayton Court, West Ealing

Really enjoyed our visit here yesterday before rugby and found the quality of Ale outstanding. Beautiful building and the hosts informed us that it will also return to Hotel status in the near future. Absolute travesty that it's not in GBG but will be rectified in due course. It offered 4 Fullers & Butcombe was their Guest. Thoroughly recommended.

The Old House at Home, Romsey

Took the inlaws here on Sat lunchtime and one word describes the place - outstanding!! Such a difference from my previous reported visit and the Ale was excellent this time. Had Ossett Pale Gold which was hoppy and very drinkable along with a half of Seafarer. The food as always was first class and would recommend this friendly place that feels like a village local to anyone who asks. A triumph to Sarah and her lovely staff.

Prince of Wales, Southampton

A good friend of mine has taken this Admirals Inns pub over and has been there since mid May. Although still finding his feet in Shirrell Heath, he has 4 pumps on and is hoping for more local trade and support in the very near future. I'm looking forward to visiting with OSCC on 21st August and will post again afterwards. NB this Prince of Wales is in SHIRRELL HEATH High St!!

11 Jul 2010 15:23

The Wheatsheaf, Shedfield

Had a cracking time here last night. After playing at Waterlooville we arrived around 8 and drank Elder Ale, Goodens, the ubiquitous Perridge and Suthwyks Liberation. All Ales were as good as ever. A special mention should go to the lovely, welcoming barmaid called Sandra (?) and Tim the Landlord as they were both very busy but served with great ease even though the place was rammed. A rendition of 'Happy Birthday' from my team mates was commented on as 'in tune' and we enjoyed every moment there as always! We'll be in again soon and until then, thank you.

4 Jul 2010 12:49

The Wheatsheaf, Shedfield

Visited last Saturday for the first time this season and found it as good as ever. Suthwyk Liberation was marginally the top drop and would sell well anywhere. Nicely busy but the bar staff are always attentive and friendly. Look forward to our next visit soon.

12 Jun 2010 08:56

The Old House at Home, Romsey

Ate here with my Wife and had an enjoyable meal Saturday lunchtime. I had a steak and red wine pie from the Specials Board and Andrea had the Old House fishcake in Hollandaise sauce. Both lovely meals but the Ales I had were predominantly too cold. Fullers Hock Mild was fine but Seafarer and HSB were not served at room temp. Love the place but Fullers should look at certain policies regarding their Ales.

23 May 2010 09:18

The New Inn, Shipton Gorge

Village run local that has an extensive Menu and 3 very well kept Palmers on cask. Run well by Gary and Sandra as it was due to close a while ago but is now in GBG 2010. Fantastic story and well worth leaving the A35 for if you're in the area.

25 Apr 2010 09:10

The Three Horseshoes, Burton Bradstock

Spent a week in nearby Shipton Gorge and visited this enjoyable place 3 times. Felt very welcome and for dog lovers,it is very friendly. The Ale was the full range of Palmers and the food was very good as well. Ale was of the highest order. Thanks to all the staff, especially Amy and congrats to Pam and Paul on such a well run establishment.

25 Apr 2010 09:05

Dog and Crook, Braishfield

Really pleased to see this place get recognised. Alan & Mim serve very good, well cooked food and usually provide 3 Hampshire casks with Ringwood Best a mainstay. Lately we've had Bowman Quiver or Swift One and Andwells King John on the other 2. Quite a busy pub Sunday lunchtimes which I find is a good sign and the staff are friendly and attentive. Always enjoyed my visits here and recommend to others when asked.

26 Mar 2010 08:51

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Got there with 2 friends on Sat at 11.51 and were invited to sit in the garden by the Landladys sister. A pleasing start to my 1st visit. On entering at opening time, although disappointed that there were no Guests on, we enjoyed the full range of TT by the time we left around 1.30. All Ales were in excellent condition and a special mention for the friendly Sarah as well as the local gent who I had lovely chats with. A beautiful and proper backstreet Pub with interesting prints on the wall of bygone Putney days. An absolute credit to all concerned.

24 Feb 2010 10:12

The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

I visited yesterday with 3 friends before the Moseley match and can safely say it's the best pub we've been in before ANY Rugby match we've travelled to. Wye Valley HPA and Bathams Best are always on we were informed by Liam, the friendly and attentive Barman as well as 2 Guests which were Holdens Golden Glow and Skinners St. Pirans. Each of the 4 Ales on offer were of the highest order with HPA marginally the best. For other drinkers there are numerous bottles and Lagers inc. Peroni on Tap. We ate here as well as the Menu was varied & inviting. We weren't disappointed as HUGE portions arrived in good time AND ALL COOKED FROM FRESH!! All meals were VERY tasty indeed. Fantastic place. What more can I say - 10/10

11 Oct 2009 13:21

The Black Boy, Winchester

Visited Tuesday after a pleasant walk round and enjoyed a very tasty Andwells King John as well as an OK pint from Hidden the name of which escapes me. It's always a favourite place of mine and will return with my OS mates in late August.

4 Jul 2009 09:02

The Old Ale House, Salisbury

Visited yesterday and I'm afraid I can only describe the place as RANK! Used to use it on crawls a while ago as it had a half decent selection of Ales and usually no fools in the vicinity, but the selection was uninspiring with 6X, Courage Best,Deuchars IPA & OSH on offer. Had to hand back the IPA which was exchanged for an OK OSH but my 6X was left cloudy and half unfinished as I chose to leave with my GF. I RARELY leave a pint if ever! Very poor.

4 Jul 2009 08:48

Queens Hotel, Gosport

Visited this top backstreet local after our win at Privett Park on 23rd May. Couldn't believe it wasn't on our site as it's friendly, unpretentious and arguably serves the best Ale in Gosport. Sue the Landlady has had the place for quite a few years and has a loyal band of locals as well as others from further afield. Ales on offer were Princetown Jail Ale, Fullers ESB, Ringwood 49er,Rudgate Ruby Mild & Rooster's Yankee. Again it's a regular entry in the GBG. Recommended.

23 Jun 2009 08:48

Bell Inn, Chittlehampton

Comfortably the best place we visit on Tour and looking forward to seeing Mark and the local characters in August. Ales of great quality and usually 6 or 7 on to try. Tasty Menu from 12 til 2 and a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide. ALWAYS good.

23 Jun 2009 08:32

The South Western, St Denys

We use this place after our home games during the Summer and are rarely let down by the quality and range of Ales. Although it's run by Enterprise Inns, it seems to have at least 7 on from local Brewers and others further afield. Last night we had 2 Bowman Ales,Swift One & Quiver,Nuptu Ale from Oakleaf,Triple fff Moondance and Andwells Resolute from Hampshire as well as Five Arrows from the Tring Brewery (pint of the night) and Old Chestnut from Dark Star. Look forward to our next visit on the 27th.

14 Jun 2009 11:02

Cricketers, Eastleigh

Visited last Saturday lunchtime and ordered a Pint of Morland Original as well as a half of Olde Trip. Sadly I had to send the MO back as it was either off the top or at the end of the Barrel. This was replaced after the showing of my CAMRA Membership with a pint of Morris Mayhem from the Westgate Brewery which must be ANOTHER of GKs acquisitions as it isn't mentioned in GBG 2009. Not a fan of the said GK chain as a proper Real Ale drinker, but the service was friendly enough. Prices seemed ok too.

30 May 2009 11:17

The Dolphin, St Denys

Really pleased to see it open again and seems to be getting back on its financial feet. Visited last night after Cricket as we always used to when we were at home. The Ale selection was OK but not as good as it once was. Fingers crossed that it will soon be back to its best and the beer will be as well kept and diverse as it was 2/3 years ago.

17 May 2009 13:31

The King Rufus, Eling

Went here for a Sunday Lunch just after Christmas. Although the Ale was as good as ever, the old adage ' familiarity breeds contempt ' springs to mind. Won't be returning anytime soon.

10 May 2009 13:04

The Wheatsheaf, Shedfield

Visited after winning our opening match in Portsmouth. We had as always a good and varied selection of Ale to choose from. Even though the place was packed, the Landlord made time for a quick chat with us and remembered us from last season. As I mentioned, all the Ale was top notch. Perridge Pale Ale at a very tasty 3.6abv,Storridge Stout 4.5,Goodens Gold 4.8 and their Guest was Oakleaf Nuptu-ale. Looking forward to the 23rd May as they've got a Festival on from the 22nd until 25th.

10 May 2009 12:51

Royal Oak, Fritham

Took my girlfriend back to this lovely pub in the NF and really enjoyed the peaceful beer garden and top views. Coastguard from Weymouth was good and tasty as well as Palmers Dorset Gold but the best drop was Stonehenge Great Bustard of the 6 on offer. Cracking Ploughmans and the place is ALWAYS a 10 in my book.

4 May 2009 10:48

The Crown and Sceptre, Kensington

Attended this top establishment with 3 friends and all I can say is THANK YOU!! Hogshead Spring Ale and T.E.A were on along with a Daleside Ale. Asked for some Bruschetta and it was very well presented and tasty. Going back to the Ale, all 3 were of the highest standard in taste. Will definitely return when in the area.

22 Apr 2009 09:09

The Uxbridge Arms, Notting Hill

Drank here on a crawl after getting stuffed at Twickenham and the Harveys was PURE NECTAR.Tribute & 1 other that escapes me were also on.A thoroughly enjoyable visit was enhanced by the friendly atmosphere and good service.Try it if you're in the area.

22 Apr 2009 09:02

The Seven Stars Inn, Okehampton

A lovely place poked away and was ideal for our party of 25 on Friday lunchtime. The staff coped admirably with our orders and we all seemed to eat well. For Ale fans there was Cotleigh Golden Seahawk and the Devonian omnipresent that is Otter Ale. Both were good and seemed well kept. Thoroughly recommended.

7 Apr 2009 09:43

The Castle Inn, St Ives

Visited this place Saturday teatime and. Enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and unobtrusive locals as we sat and relaxed after a pleasant walk around town. Very reasonable and the Heligan Honey out of the barrel was top notch.3 Gravities and 3 on pump well kept makes me wonder why it isn't in the GBG?? Returned after an evening meal at our Hotel to find a 50th Birthday & standing room only. Seems popular & would recommend a visit to anyone.

7 Apr 2009 09:34

The First And Last, Sennen

We came down to this place last Friday and were pretty impressed by the atmosphere as well as the friendly staff. Keltek Magik was the order of the day for Ale drinkers & Rattler for Cider fans. To sit 25 of us down and serve very good food at the same time was a wonderful effort. I'd like to thank the Landlady & her staff for making it an enjoyable visit.

7 Apr 2009 09:20

The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

19 Feb 2009 08:55

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

Attended the pub for the 1st time last Sat after Twickenham and will do so many more times in the future. A proper place with a varied selection of Real Ale and a cracking atmosphere. We didn't eat, but apparently the food is quality as well.I look forward to my next visit.

15 Feb 2009 14:35

The Bush Inn, Morwenstow

Really enjoyed our 2 visits and it's well worth the drive. Ales were HSD & Tribute as well as a Cornish guest Cousin Jack. Lovely atmosphere and the locals are friendly.Their Chef was top notch and the GFs Veggie dish was very tasty. A REAL FIND.

15 Nov 2008 17:48

The Wheatsheaf, Shedfield

Really enjoyed our 3rd visit of the Cricket season to this place and the Ale as always was TOP NOTCH.
Goodens Gold from Flowerpots was the pick of the 7 that were on but also Whitear from the same Brewery and Skew Gold both deserve positive inclusions. Lovely, warm atmosphere and I thoroughly recommend it. Will return with my GF in due course.

3 Sep 2008 10:56

The Coach and Horses, Compton

We went to this pub after our League victory and had some of the best beer of the season.A welcoming bunch of locals, great beer in the shape of Dark Star and Bowman as well as an extensive and well presented food Menu.If you ever venture into West Sussex from East Hampshire, then I THOROUGHLY recommend Coach and Horses at Compton.

24 Aug 2008 18:52

The Retreat, Reading

Went there last Sunday and LOVED EVERY MINUTE! Tried all the selections and they were all top notch, but the best was Chalk Stream by the Ramsbury Brewery.

6 Apr 2008 16:15

The Beer Engine, Newton St Cyres

Friendly atmosphere and the best beer in Barnstaple.

22 Jul 2007 10:00

Since Paul took over, the beer has continued to go from strength to strength.A number of locals were worried when Sue & Nev left but their fears have been allayed by Lodden,Bowman & Oakleaf beer. The ONLY genuine Free House in Southampton.
