Durty Nelly's, Hull

I think this pub has been refurbished since the previous reviews, and is very nice now. It's run by the same people as Walter's and has a very good selection of beers and a good atmosphere at the weekends. It's pretty quiet during the week, but at least you're guaranteed a seat.

The Thule Bar / Queens Hotel, Lerwick

Not a bad pub at all. Two good pool tables, juke box and fairly busy at the weekends.

The Lounge Bar, Lerwick

Good live traditional music on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which packs the place out. Seems to be the only place in Lerwick with a quiz machine, which is a good enough reason to come. Comfortable, clean and nice staff, probably the best pub in Lerwick.

Captain Flints, Lerwick

Two pool tables upstairs, karaoke, cheap 'cocktails'. Always a good pub for a night out if you like that kind of thing, but can be slightly chavvy.

The Spotted Dog, Penshurst

A beautiful pub in gorgeous surroundings. Particularly family-friendly now it's non-smoking. Definitely a great place to come for a drink, whether it's out on the terraces in the summer, or by one of the log fires in the winter. As the comments show, the food can be amazing, but it is not always reliable. Definitely worth visiting, and there's now some very nice local produce in the farm shop next door. Maybe not very good for your weekly shop, but great for special locally-made chutneys, jams and biscuits.

The Kentish Horse, Mark Beech

A real, proper, unpretentious country pub. The food is big and tasty, all straightforward English stuff (except for curry night.) They have well-kept Larkins and Harvey's, and usually a guest ale. There's a very homely atmosphere, it's very comfortable. Worth making a regular visit if you live nearby, or if you're visiting, drop in for a big pie and a pint of good ale after a walk in the beautiful surrounding countryside.
