I can't think of a better pub in terms of real ale choice and quality, continental beers and whiskeys. I'm hard pushed to think of a more pleasant, mixed clientele. I know it can't be beaten for value. Indeed, I'll be there in about an hour.

Unremarkable, but nice enough, with some comfy leather seats and fireplaces. Ale drinkers might be a little disappointed, but (unfussy) wine drinkers will be chuffed: You can get a bottle for under 6 quid.

Great music, warm, friendly staff, 1970s decor, restricted ale choice, doesn't open until 5:30. Happy atmosphere with good client mixture. probably the best pub in the immediate area, but that's not saying much in itself.

Largely devoid of character, but wonderful beer, with free tastings.

Although the refurbishment is a predictably bland, pub-interior-by-numbers sofa and beach affair, it's an immeasurable improvement over the formica and swirly carpet "Murderer's Arms" dive of the past. Prices have rocketed (3 pint Kronenbourg, 2.50 pint IPA), according to the staff this is a deliberate ploy to change the clientele. It might be working, judging by the early evening suited crowd happily sitting by the windows. Very friendly American barman exchanged a very poor pint of IPA for 2 free drinks: a good sign, providing the off-beer was a blip. Could be good for the area, let's wait and see...

The Boaters Inn, Kingston Upon Thames
Great location, friendly staff, cosy feel (despite what it looks like from the outside) - open fires and a fuggish feel in the winter. OK ale, lousy food.

My temporary local and I'm not too sorry about it. Good ales at reasonable prices (2.40 for some) and interesting menu. First time I went I was struck by the number of very obviously wealthy 19 year-olds, and it's not as friendly as pubs can be, in fact I find I've headed the other direction to the Forester's Arms at Hampton Wick in preference lately. Obviously aim to attract families with the playground, yet don't provide a non-smoking area.

The Brewery Tap, Limehouse
Popped in for a pint before a gig at the Troxy (next door). Left without ordering because a) it was a bit of a dump and b) despite the name it did not serve real ales. Neither a brewery or a tap associated with this place.
