The Perch and Pike, South Stoke

Was on a long walk and looking forward to a pint but alas it was very much closed and it was only 3pm. Either it shut really early due to no business at lunchtime or it doesn't open midweek lunchtimes....

6 May 2017 12:13

The Red Lion, Woodcote

A greene king pub with IPA and Abbott on tap. Unfortunately it closes at 3 and reopens at 5 but the barman was happy to leave us in peace in the back garden with our numerous pints whilst he locked us out. Can't grumble about that. Very much a 70s feel to it but worth a visit if passing by.

6 May 2017 12:11

The Catherine Wheel, Goring

A nice pub but expensive imho - £8.30 for two pints...the barley corn is almost a pound cheaper and the bull in streatley cheaper still! However staff were friendly and worth a visit especially if you have deep pockets!

6 May 2017 12:05

The Town Arms, Wallingford

Very recently had a refurb so it's light and clean. Two separate bars with a pool table in one. Pleasant enough but there are better pubs nearby.

6 May 2017 12:01

The Old Post Office, Wallingford

An awful place...beers were expensive and not well kept....the tinny taste indicating the pipes aren't cleaned regularly enough. Probably because it attracts the trendy sort who drink fancy lager. Sort of place where blind dates go...dreadful.

6 May 2017 11:59

The George Hotel, Wallingford

A good pub which surprised me seeing as it was in effect the hotel bar....luckily it's kept separate (tavern bar) and what I'd call an old boozer. Beers were good too though it can get a bit cramped....

6 May 2017 11:56

The Dolphin, Wallingford

Arguably the best pub in Wallingford. A locals pub but welcoming to visitors. Had Dolly on tap which was well kept amongst other ales. Sky sports which may be off putting to some, though there are two separate bars. Worth a visit.

6 May 2017 11:54

The Coach and Horses, Wallingford

Another pub with a great location next to the green/fields, but completely soulless with the barmaid plugged into her iPhone. However, the beer was good, even if fullers

6 May 2017 11:50

The Boathouse, Wallingford

Set next to the Thames, its in an idyllic location. The food menu is cheap and it resembles a wetherspoons but without the history of the pub that Wetherspoons normally celebrate. Beers were ok, but apart from the location, there are better pubs in Wallingford

6 May 2017 11:47

The Bull, Streatley

Came here with a couple of mates to have a few beers whilst playing cards. The beer was well kept and prices were certainly good - 3 pints for under a tenner. Seemed popular with eaters. No regrets about coming here. Would visit again.

1 May 2017 23:23

The John Barleycorn, Goring

Great traditional pub. Beers well kept and prices reasonable. Probably the best drinking pub in goring.

1 May 2017 23:19

White Swan, Winchester

Now called the mucky duck - part of the little pub company. A cosy feel to it but the beer was poor - cold and cloudy. Many better pub's if you want a decent pint - namely the Hyde tavern further down the road, or the Albion, near to the station.

23 Nov 2016 20:20

William Walker, Winchester

A fullers pub with Seafarers & Pride on. Bit of a trendy crowd in though it was a midweek evening. On the expensive side compared to other pubs.

23 Nov 2016 20:15

Royal Oak, Winchester

An old pub with lots of history with various nooks and crannies. I had the Oak ale, a session beer, though other ales including greene king IPA were on. Also had an interesting selection of craft beers on tap - the punk IPA particularly good. Probably the best pub in the vicinity when compared with the Eclipse or old Vine. Definitely visit again.

23 Nov 2016 20:12

The Old Vine, Winchester

Very much a gastropub. Squeaky clean and punters were sitting at tables talking in hushed voices. Seemed more of a tourists pub with a fair number going there for pre theatre drinks. As already mentioned, it's seems more of a restaurant with a bar than a pub that does food. However the beer was well kept and the Saxon bronze was good.

23 Nov 2016 20:07

The Hyde Tavern, Winchester

Off the beat and track and opening times are varied. It was closed at 1645 hrs but was open when I returned at 8pm. A very quirky pub, almost as if someone's converted their house to become a pub. Having said that it was warm and welcoming and the Elderquad ale was good. Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

23 Nov 2016 20:02

The Eclipse Inn, Winchester

A locals pub, certainly when I visited. Friendly lot with a bit of banter. Various ales of which I had the doombar which was good. Bang in the town centre just round the corner from the cathedral. Worth a visit if thirsty and passing by.

23 Nov 2016 19:58

The Albion, Winchester

As already mentioned, now a Pots pub. Ale was well kept and very reasonably priced. A no frills pub, but worth a visit.

23 Nov 2016 19:54

The Worlds End, Edinburgh

Great boozer. Ales were well kept and prices reasonable. Welcoming to a large group of drinkers. Nice and cosy with enough character - best of the bunch in the area. Recommended

11 Feb 2016 10:51

The Jolly Judge, Edinburgh

Small boozer just off the high street. Ales were well kept and seemed friendly enough. Worth a visit.

11 Feb 2016 10:48

The Riverside, Vauxhall

Youngs pub on the waterfront. A pint of Youngs gold was £4.15, which is either expensive or cheap depending on where you normally drink! The spirits were expensive, but by signing up to their newsletter you got a free drink. My email confirmation came through in 10 mins. Pleasant enough but a bit soulless

1 Feb 2016 15:32

Gamecock, Worcester Park

Now called the willow - it's had a major revamp specialising in craft beers with 3 ales on the pump, including GK IPA and Youngs ordinary. Otherwise there's loads of craft beers like punk IPA. Well kept and good prices including the food. The are in effect three parts - a long side room where people eat and generally drink, the bar area where again people eat and drink, and the sports bar bit where but and sky sports is shown. Dogs welcome and staff friendly. Really impressed.

1 Feb 2016 15:25

The Montagu Pyke, Charing Cross Road

An upmarket spoons pub. Service was good and the range of ales was good. It was busy (Saturday night) but there was enough room and enough staff working. Definitely worth a visit if you like your ales and don't want to pay tourist / rip off prices.

20 Dec 2015 13:10

The Cross Keys, Covent Garden

Great boozer with very reasonable prices - a pint of pale ale (micro brewery) and glass of wine £7.15 which is cheap for covent garden/London.
The decor is old worldly and there's loads of paraphernalia to peruse.
Will definitely go back there again.

20 Dec 2015 13:05

The Foresters Arms, Horsham

Cracking little pub, serving doom bar & hobgoblin gold. I had the latter and it was good.
A nice beer garden and dog friendly too. Away from the town centre and so avoids the town crowd. Recommended.

15 Sep 2015 11:38

The Original White Hart, Ringwood

Food was cheap I meant !

10 Sep 2015 19:44

The Original White Hart, Ringwood

A Marstons Inn pub with Ringwood best & 49er as well as Jennings Cumberland ale on tap. The 49er was fine. Good was cheap too. A typical chain pub, but pleasant enough and spacious inside. Dog friendly too.

10 Sep 2015 19:43

The Fish Inn, Ringwood

Cracking little pub right next to the river and the A31!
Serves wadworth beers - 6x, swordfish, horizon - as well as ringwood best. I had the horizon which was a golden ale. Well kept and tasty and friendly staff. Recommended.

10 Sep 2015 17:49

The Red Lion, Sturminster Marshall

Pub served Badgers ales and had First on tap. A very good pint too.
The food looked good and so had a spicy chicken sandwich on homemade bread which was great. Skinny fries did come in a small basket, but with the sandwich it was certainly enough for a lunch. A three course menu for £12.50 was on offer which was very tempting, but alas only there for lunch. Staff were friendly and the pub garden was neat. All in all, a great place and a good stop.

10 Sep 2015 17:18

The Old Town Inn, St Mary's

Had 3 bitters on - a Sharps (doom bar I think), a Cornish craft beer IPA, and the pubs own IPA. I had the latter which was tasty and well kept. There were loads of ciders on offer, but as I don't drink those, can't comment other than there were a few to choose from. The landlord was friendly and it certainly seemed popular with the locals.
It's about a 20 odd minute walk from Hugh town (unless you go via the coast and add another 20), but it's worth a change from the touristy places in Hugh town.
It's just past the local shop and spitting distance from the airport. It looks like a barrack house from the outside but has a pleasant interior, and a garden out front and back. Dog friendly too,

8 Sep 2015 19:39

The Seven Stones Inn, St Martins

The only pub on St martins. The bar was full of interesting nik naks with an assortment of church furniture amongst other bits. The garden was south facing with good views.
A couple of ales were on (doom bar & a St austells Cornish best). I had the latter and although drinkable, it was a wee bit on the cloudy side. Shame really, but it's a funny old pub all the same.

8 Sep 2015 19:31

The Fraggle Rock, Bryher

The only "pub" on bryer though as said previously, more like a cafe restaurant.
However, Tribute and Proper Job were on tap, for which I had the latter. And a good pint too,
So worth stopping by for a swiftie or 3, but only if already on the island

8 Sep 2015 19:22

The Kings Head, Yarmouth

Sadly the pub's gone back a few paces. Still not bad, but it's been superseded by the nearby bugle. More expensive now and most locals have switched.

6 Sep 2015 05:34

Prince Of Wales, Covent Garden

Typical central London pub. Loads of tourists and service was slow.
However, had plenty of real ales on - the 1730 was good. Also served brew dog craft beers. The dead pony was on keg draught and good and bottled punk ipa.
So I wouldn't make a beeline for it, but not a bad pub for the area.

6 Sep 2015 05:28

The Bishop and Wolf, St Marys

More of a locals pub, though whether this was because live football was being shown, I'm not sure.
Served tribute and proper job, though I had the St Austell sunshine beer which was good. Has live bands on certain nights. Not a bad pub and worth a visit.

6 Sep 2015 05:18

The Mermaid Inn, St Mary's

A drinkers pub by the quayside. Served ales of scilly beer (can't recall which I had though it was 5%) and it was good.
Good decor - loads of nautical paraphernalia and flags. Can't comment on the food as didn't eat here. Heavy metal played on the music system which was fine by me and it wasn't loud so as to annoy others.
I reckon it could be a good session pub.

6 Sep 2015 05:13

Atlantic Inn, St Mary's

This is more of a restaurant pub than a drinking one.
Serves St Austell beers. I had the tribute which was good. Can't comment on the food, but judging by how packed it was, it can't be bad, though the numbers must mean there will be a wait.
Has a nice terrace which overlooks the harbour and is dog friendly. An inn in the true sense as accommodation is available.
Not a bad place to go for a couple of pints, though I preferred the other pubs on St Mary's.

6 Sep 2015 05:05

The Turks Head, St Agnes

Cracking pub - the most south westerly of the UK! Three ales on tap - Sharps Own, Turks head own bitter and Lushingtons Pale Ale. I had several of the latter and well worth it too - especially at £3.40 which is cheap for the Isles of Scilly. Fish and chips were excellent and staff were attentive and cheerful. Recommended if down this way!

4 Sep 2015 23:30

The New Inn, Tresco

The only pub on Tresco.
Serving a variety of real ales. I had the IPA from the Harbour Brewing Co. - a Cornish craft beer. 5% but very pleasant and floral. £4 so not too bad considering where you are and in comparison to other island pubs. The Missus had a glass of the Tresco prosecco at £5.50.
Nice beer garden which is sheltered. The interior was what a proper pub should be. Worth a visit.

4 Sep 2015 16:28

The Skipper Inn, Brixham

What a cracking pub.
Locals bar at the front with sky sports and a big room out back where the carvery on Sunday are well worth the price.

Even a beer garden out back.

Very much a tardis in a residential area. Good ales and lively atmosphere.
Off the tourist beat at the harbour so recommended

19 Dec 2013 15:55

Ye Olde Red Lion, Cheam

Been here a few times over the last couple of years and it doesn't disappoint.
Very much a locals pub with tolerance for families including dogs.

Various ales on though Youngs ordinary is a staple.

A great old fashioned locals boozer.

19 Dec 2013 15:51

Fowlers, Ryde

As most comments say, a wetherspoons.

Ruddles at £1.99 and well kept. Usual Xmas ales on ie: 5% plus yuck

Those that like wetherspoons, worth a visit. Those against it, avoid

19 Dec 2013 15:47

Verve, Leicester Square

This is a bar and not a pub. More for cocktails, bottled beers and peacocks.

If on the pull, maybe not too bad. Has a happy hour 5-7 with most stuff half price.

19 Dec 2013 12:47

The Duke of Cumberland, Henley

Still a great pub. Food menu is more on the gourmet side, but the beer is well kept and straight from cask.

Fantastic views and friendly staff. Top marks.

19 Dec 2013 12:42

The Red Lion, Fernhurst

New owners but still fillers tied. Luckily the old staff have remained and it remains a nice locals and visitors country pub.

Beers well kept and food reasonable.

Still worth a visit

19 Dec 2013 12:32

The Red Lion, Fernhurst

New owners but still fillers tied. Luckily the old staff have remained and it remains a nice locals and visitors country pub.

Beers well kept and food reasonable.

Still worth a visit

19 Dec 2013 12:32

The Invincible, Portsmouth

Popped in for a pint at 1130 (am) after missing the ferry.

IMO a pleasant little boozer. Some old boys were already ahead of me, but otherwise quiet.

Decor had a naval theme as you'd expect. Had a pint of doom bar which was good and cost £3.10 bargain

Would definitely return.

Barmaid / landlady was friendly too.

19 Dec 2013 12:29

Sloop Inn, Bantham

I believe that the pub is now open all day, though food is at lunchtimes and evenings.
St Austell beers were on tap and all were good and well kept.
Food was good too though best to book as there's a lot of evening trade.
Accommodation is good though parking can be an issue.
Staff were very courteous and friendly.

Will definitely visit again. Recommended.

17 Aug 2013 11:08

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

Probably the best pub in Clapham Junction if you like your ales....plenty on offer and the ones I tried were good. A large circular bar so in less busy times you may have to walk round the front to get served...

will always go here if in the area for beers

13 Aug 2013 19:47

The Duck, Battersea

Chalkey summed it up nicely...

good for watching sports and good pizzas...the only ale is IPA which was on keg.
Gets very busy

13 Aug 2013 19:41

B@1 (Be At One), Battersea

It does cocktails and that's about it. Worth visiting if you're in a group and get there early to make the most of happy hour (5pm-8pm)

13 Aug 2013 19:37

Horton Inn, Horton

There must have been a massive improvement as we ate there and the food was great and very reasonable.
Beer was Ringwood - Best and Cocky Blonde was on. £3 for Best so can't grumble about that. Tasted good too.
Beer garden is south facing and there is a patioed area which affords a windbreak what with the walls and shrubs.
Inside it is pretty spacious with a restaurant type area and the main bar area.
Staff were very friendly too.

Would definitely visit again if in the area.

13 Aug 2013 19:32

The Kings Arms, Fernhurst

Now back open - as the Kings Arms this time. New owners and a new feel.

Bar still in the same position, but there's now more room and it's a lot brighter with a lick of paint. Ale was well kept and reasonable price for the area.

The barn is now a curry restaurant, so not sure how that will compete.

The garden has been tidied up and offers good views of the countryside.

13 Aug 2013 19:28

The White Hart Hotel, Exeter

visited and stayed on a Friday night.

Beers were Ringwood - tried the Best and Cocky Blonde. Both were quaffable and prices quite reasonable - 3.30 ish a pint.

Loads of character even if it is a chain pub. Lots of nooks and crannies so you hide away for either a quiet conversation or a nice drinking session.

Would definitely visit again and the best overall pub for me in Exeter city centre.

13 Aug 2013 19:05

The Well House, Exeter

Modern feel inside and a bit cramped in places.

However the beer was good (Otter) and staff friendly enough. Was showing the Ashes (Sky Sports) but dunno whether it's a football or rugby pub in the winter..

Prime location, but the odd thing was that although there were tables outside, we couldn't take our drinks there??
Dunno whether this was because it was a Friday evening or what?

13 Aug 2013 19:00

The Ship, Exeter

Went there on a busy Friday night with a good old bit of chavi-oake playing.
Was an entertaining crowd with an older edge to it.
the ale was good and price was reasonable.
this pub holds a lot of history if you make the effort to read some of the odds and ends on the walls.
Can't comment on the food.
Staff were friendly.

13 Aug 2013 18:48

The Dolphin Inn, Kingston

pub tucked away in a quiet village. Sort of place you'd expect on the hammer horror films. full of character and the staff were probably the oldest I've come across. the ale was good and so was the food.
Toilets across the road.
Worth a visit but don't be in a rush.
Great place overall.

13 Aug 2013 18:44

The Kings Arms, Fernhurst

now called the handsome pig.

real ale is back on. Gone back to being a pub, but has an odd layout.

worth a visit

28 Nov 2012 18:50

Smugglers Inn, Osmington Mills

Great location and a good stop if on the coastal trail. Badger ales only, but my pint was fine...lots of passing trade, most being walkers..
definitely a food pub and what with the seeming rush, not necessarily the place for a quiet pint.
worth a visit though

15 Jul 2012 18:51

The Ship, Wool

Good village pub, leaning more towards food. Badger ales were on - Badger, Hopping Hare and Tanglefoot...TV in the corner and large pub garden...would visit if in the area again..

15 Jul 2012 18:43

The Shoulder of Mutton, Hartley Wintney

nice little pub tucked away with the back garden literally looking out onto fields full of cows. Inside was quirky with low ceilings. Food looked ok (not sampled) and ales on tap were TEA, Bombardier and Broadside. Both tasted fine to me, maybe on the chilly side....but they were a bit on the cloudy side. 3.50 a pint.....not too bad. Would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way....closed between lunch and evenings...opening at 6pm..

9 May 2012 18:49

The Globe, Covent Garden

Last pub we visited on a crawl and to me it was fine...served straight away and the staff were pleasant..would visit again if in the area...

25 Mar 2012 17:24

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Odd pub...decor more like a French cafe, with loads of arty posters and plastic chquered table cloths....however the beer was good...would re visit if on a pub crawl, but wouldn't go there for a session..

25 Mar 2012 17:21

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

the weirdest layout of a pub...easy to get lost and it seems most of it is underground...very quirky and well worth a visit with a lot of history...

A sam smiths pub, so only their fare...however it's a darn sight cheaper...rounds from other pubs were over 30..this was 23...

25 Mar 2012 17:18

The Old Bell, Fleet Street

went in on a Saturday just after 6 and it was closing...apparently shuts at 6pm on a Saturday, so best to visit earlier or mid week..

Another of the Nicholsons pubs

25 Mar 2012 17:14

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

Busy on a Saturday afternoon with a mixed crowd...typical Nicholsons pub...a little bit on the pricey side compared to others...

25 Mar 2012 17:11

The Wellington, Waterloo

Now a Fullers and so the usual stuff....very busy Saturday afternoon with the rugby on...food was really good and reasonable...good old fashioned pub grub...

word of warning though...dippers operate in the pub, so keep an eye on your belongings...there are notices and staff are aware...

25 Mar 2012 17:09

The Kings Arms, Waterloo

what a great boozer...not far from Waterloo train station, but tucked away enough so that the rabble don't fiind it.
8 ales were on and the one that I had was kept well and tasted great....it was nice and quiet and a pleasant way to spend an afternoon..

thoroughly recommended...will visit again

25 Mar 2012 17:06

The Kings Head, Yarmouth

Best pub in Yarmouth...very much a locals pub, with well kept beer and good food....worth a visit..

6 Feb 2012 19:09

The Blacksmiths Arms, Newport

Great pub...possibly the best views for an IOW pub...the rear looks out over fields that sweep down to the Solent..

The food is great and varied and very reasonable...and there's a drinking bar at the top end....Recommended

6 Feb 2012 19:06

The North Star, Finchley Road

Odd pub....recently decorated and plenty of seating...a dart board and sport on TV...beer (Black sheep) was good...however, it seemed soulless, the sport was not your mainstream stuff and there was music on in the background...seemed trying to be everything for everyone.....would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to be there...

6 Feb 2012 18:56

Ye Olde Red Lion, Cheam

apparently a new manager now, so can't comment on what it was like before.
Went there on a Friday night...it was raucous in the main bar with workers having a few bevvies, but round the back where there's seating, it was surprisingly quiet...could hardly hear the boozy crowd. Beer was Youngs Ordinary(session beer) with a couple of others (cant remember). The beer was well kept and reasonably priced. The food menu was typical pub grub at very reasonable prices...looked good too, though I didn't sample any. Back in on the Saturday, where the 6 nations rugby was being shown....kids allowed in the side of the pub away from the bar...
I would describe this as a locals pub...lively and family oriented, though a bit on the coarse side...fine by me, but maybe not for others..

6 Feb 2012 18:51

The Noahs Ark Inn, Lurgashall

good old fashioned country pub with a happy hour which means 2.50 for any pint of lager or bitter......so it's good for the locals who can have a cheap pint or two after work...

...Greene King IPA is the mainstay though there was another one on pump..Speckled Hen I think though I can't be sure...

worth a visit if in the area..

15 Dec 2011 21:03

The Freemasons Arms, Covent Garden

Not a bad boozer, though it does get busy....Spitfire is kept well and worth supping...
you can also buy a freemasons songbook from behind the bar...though what's in it is beyond me..a function room upstairs and plenty of seating downstairs..

recommended

15 Dec 2011 20:54

The William IV, Albury

Good little boozer in the middle of nowhere....the biggest room is set aside it seems for food, though there are two tables in the bar area, with an odd nook round the side where a dart board resides. Good beer - Surrey Hills on tap, well kept. Food is fine..worth a visit

8 Oct 2011 17:41

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

A Nicholsons pub. Several levels, with a terrace bar at the top - very busy in the summer, the next level down seems to be for private hire, the one below is a restaurant and at the bottom is the main bar. Popular with tourists and can get busy....however, a good selection of beers, with enough nooks and crannies to settle down for a session..

8 Oct 2011 17:29

The Cockpit, Blackfriars

Great little boozer off the beat and track...went in on a Sunday afternoon...relatively quiet, but lucky to see a pub open on a Sunday in the City...apparently built on the site of Shakepseare's house...

8 Oct 2011 17:11

The Horniman at Hays, Southwark

not a bad pub...would be better without the tourists who seem to take up the outside seating and sit and talk for hours with their COFFEE!
Otherwise it not a bad pub - good location, good beer. Staff were ok....mostly foreign...had to ask for a top up on the ale..Another Nicholsons pub..

8 Oct 2011 17:02

The Old Thameside Inn, London Bridge

popped in for some beers...staff were very pleasant, so either they're new or they've picked their socks up, viewing other comments below...another Nicholsons pub, but the selection of beers was good. Not too pricey considering the location. Being right on the Thames, if you can get the seating, it's worth sitting and looking at the passing traffic...however, being on the South Bank, you don't get much sun...would definitely visit again..

8 Oct 2011 16:45

The Mudlark, London Bridge

not that bad a pub...seen a lot worse...the ale is good and varied and there's a big outside heated area, but I agree with the other comments....has the ambience of an internet cafe and very little atmosphere...ok if on a pub crawl, but I wouldn't spend all evening here..

8 Oct 2011 16:33

The Kings Arms, Fernhurst

definitely set up for the restaurant goer....however, had ale on pumps when I visited, maybe no more keg beer?

if a nice day, you can sit outside, though half the garden was sealed off for the barn - whether that was temporary as there was a function due to take place, or whether it is now the norm, can't say for sure.

as there is no bar as such, don't go there for a drink on a wet day...otherwise you'll be sitting in a restaurant supping beer..or getting wet outside..not for a session, but ok if passing by..or on a country pub crawl..

28 May 2011 18:00

The Spotted Dog, Dorking

went in on a busy w/e night...staff were attentive which was good...the beer was ok too...however they had some sort of geriatric band going and whether they had brought in the clientele or the clientele attract that sort of band I dunno...either way the clientele were mostly 45+ with easily a few 50yr olds acting and dressing as if 30....not in any way a criticism, just an observation..if it floats your boat, then go for it....would visit again if on a pub crawl, but would avoid a session

28 May 2011 17:24

The Queens Head, Dorking

Spot on TWG...a lively pub with a youngish crowd (30s?)...nice and loud jutebox, 3 a pint for Chiswick which was kept well and tasted good...

If up for a laugh, probably the best place in dorking...if out for a quiet romantic drink, then best to avoid...

definitely go again

28 May 2011 17:18

The Prince Of Wales, Dorking

a proper locals boozer...welcoming staff and a couple of locals gave a cheery hello...

had 3 beers on pump, one being a guest ale...right temp and clear, though the taste was grim (it was a Scottish one ;-) )

Pool table and darts and Sky...not a bad place for a session,

would re visit if on a pub crawl...

28 May 2011 17:15

The Falkland Arms, Dorking

there's a front and back room with one bar...didn't go in the back, but the front was a bit too clean and clinical for my liking...almost like someone's lounge...

the Youngs bitter was ok, but on the warm side...a locals pub it seemed...unlikely to go back...a better boozer IMHO is the Prince of wales across the road, even if it is a Pubmaster chain one..

28 May 2011 17:09

The Bush, Dorking

a locals boozer with pool table at the rear.

welcoming barmaid...unfortunately the one pump of real ale was off, so had to settle for a bottle of Pedigree...

had some sort of disco/karaoke set up...dunno if that's the norm for a weekend...

28 May 2011 17:05

The Noahs Ark Inn, Lurgashall

Good pub, though a bit too much on the restaurant side.

However, it's currently open all day, has happy hour(s) from 4.30 to 6.30 where it's 2.50 a pint...
mainly Greene King ales, with a guest bitter..

dogs and kids welcome....

Recommended.

27 May 2011 08:19

The Black Horse Inn, Byworth

What a cracking little pub....

full of locals when I visited plus dogs....nice rustic bar with restaurant type area to the rear...and a huge pub garden at the rear...if a walker, there's a public footpath at the rear, so you can't miss it..

3 real ales from what I could see - Langhams hip hop, Flowery Pots and can't remember the other...well kept and a nice drop..

Open all day too....recommended

The Halfway Bridge Inn, Lodsworth

I agree with LDW, more of a restaurant than pub.

Had a good selection of ales, though my one was a bit warm.

On the plus side, it's open all day (drinks at least) so if passing by you can pop in for a swift one.

Also dogs and kids are welcome..

The White House, Guildford

Fullers pub...a new back garden layout...right next to the river...a good summer pub...ales were good...mixed crowd...though the tables and chairs seemed crammed in which gives little room..or privacy..

28 Apr 2011 20:27

Tickeld Ivory, Guildford

also known as the Pickled Ovaries...not a bad place...a bit trendy with an older crowd...thought it was bring your mother night!...music is a bit cheesy....but no trouble and seems to double as a night club...strict door policy after a certain hour..

28 Apr 2011 20:25

The Stoke, Guildford

Stoke - where pizza express meets a pub....can't comment on the food quality though it looks good....a lively place and certainly one for the young...

28 Apr 2011 20:21

The Star Inn, Guildford

still feels grimy...but the beer is good...another shepherd & neame pub...

28 Apr 2011 20:16

Rogues Wine Bar, Guildford

a couples bar...mainly an older crowd....bit like a tardis...small on the outside, but expands when you go round the back... on the periphery of the town centre and as such away from the trouble....
ales were ok...depends what you're looking for...or not as the case might be..

28 Apr 2011 20:12

Rodboro Buildings, Guildford

wetherspoons...cheap as chips...good ales...full of people with one aim in mind...no need to spell it out...if going out for a session...go for it...the drawback is that it's on Bridge st...the OK Coral of Guildford...

28 Apr 2011 20:06

The Prince Albert, Guildford

A locals pub...pool table, etc...however the beer was well kept and quite reasonable...tried the Shere drop...a local beer...very quaffable...
not bad if you want a quiet pint....if you roll in noisily, then expect hard stares..

28 Apr 2011 20:02

The Kings Head, Guildford

Fullers pub....well kept beers...good grub...good old fashioned boozer...top marks

28 Apr 2011 19:41

The Kings Head, Guildford

hmm. has potential, but very much a student pub....ales aren't that great...the Star is better...even if less salubrious...

28 Apr 2011 19:40

The Keystone, Guildford

odd place...really good ales and a good crowd...but, it seems really modern inside and there's little character....will always pop in if in the area...

28 Apr 2011 19:38

The George Abbot, Guildford

Good selection of ales....more of an old fashioned boozer....good pub grub, and shows the rugby (internationals)...

28 Apr 2011 19:36

The Five and Lime, Guildford

Can get cramped, but if out for partying , not a bad place to go...though this is a bar...not a pub...so don't go if you want a pint of real ale and home made pie...

28 Apr 2011 19:33

Flares, Guildford

Bloody awful, even when drunk!...

If you're into 70s music and not bothered about lack of real ale, then this is your cup of tea!!

28 Apr 2011 19:30

The Drummond, Guildford

Good selection of beers, including lagers....a bit dark and dusky...on the trendy side though, not dirty side....
if low key trendy pubs are your thing, then this is it....if it's more of a local boozer with character, there's other pubs around the area...

28 Apr 2011 19:28

The Britannia, Guildford

Not a bad boozer.....get a bit of a younger crowd, but the ales are good...as stated, Shepherd & neame...
Near the town centre but far enough away to avoid the bedlam that often descends around bridge street...

28 Apr 2011 19:21

The Red Lion, Fernhurst

Cracking pub...well kept beer..though all are Fullers except one guest ale which changes regularly...landlord knows his beer and as such it's kept well..

food is good too and varied..

Dogs welcome and children aren't allowed in the main bar area...which is a good thing IMO...
Pleasant back garden and seating out the front too.

gets busy on Sundays, especially is weather's good...but don't let that put you off..

Also open all day throughout the week, which is unusual for the area...

23 Apr 2011 11:34

The Duke of Cumberland, Henley

A summer pub...probably the best pub garden in SE England...fantastic views, though predominantly N & E facing....so the sun disappears by the evening..

Beers are good.

The only shame is that it can get packed....almost a tourist spot, except the tourists are Brits ..

23 Apr 2011 11:28

The Moon Under Water, Leicester Square

just had a makeover inside...still a Spoons pub....
If you're out on a bender, worth a visit as it's cheap and cheerful...
plenty of bar staff, so little waiting around..

if out for a boozy night 9/10
if out for a quiet drink and quality food 3/10

23 Apr 2011 11:24

The Bear and Staff, Leicester Square

Named after the coat of arms of the Neville family, been a pub sine early C18th..

Popped in there on Easter BH...leicester Square was crowded, but luckily the pub wasn't....mostly St Austell beers on the pumps...tried the Atlantic IPA ...nice drop, though not a session beer...
felt sorry for the bartender...on his own coping with drink and food orders aswell as taking food to the tables...was pleasant enough...especially considering some of the tourists..
"One Beer"
"Lager or bitter sir?"
"Ordinary"..^^
Worth a visit...appparently Chaplin came here when performing in nearby theatres..

23 Apr 2011 11:17

The Rising Sun, Milland

Fullers pub, but the beer was well kept...Food was good and certainly reasonable (taking the ealry bird option 8)...big garden...if in the area, worth a visit...

20 Apr 2011 21:51

The Unicorn Inn, Heyshott

Lovely setting.....but...can't really comment except that it didn't open till 7pm...we were one of several cars that came and went....missing a trick here...so go late in evening or at lunchtime to avoid a wasted journey...

20 Apr 2011 21:47

The Elsted Inn, Elsted

New owners since middle of last year...Excellent pub...good ale and food and at reasonable prices....right on the road that runs into the village, but it's not that busy...has B&B too...nice little gem in fanatstic countryside...recommended if in the area or passing nearby
