The Travellers Rest, Euxton

I ate at the pub on Sunday 24th January with 7 other people.

Since we arrived at 12pm we were the only people in the pub, but it took ages to be asked for our orders. After a good 15 minutes I had to walk over to the bar to get the waitress to come over to the table and take our order. We asked what the Sunday specials for the starters were. The waitress said "I can't remember, I will have to check!", which was not a good start since we were the first customers to ask. The same response came when one of us asked what the Sunday Special desserts were.

I had the Sunday Roast. The portions were big. The beef was tough as old boots, whilst the Yorkshire Pudding was good. English peas were cooked from frozen, the mange tout was undercooked, the Roast Potato was slightly oily yet the new potatoes and carrots were good.

I asked for English Mustard, and a jar of mustard without a spoon was served to me, so I just had to stick my knife into it, and then pass it on. Like being at home!

The nicest part of the meal was the Cappuccino cake served with ice cream. Nice texture and big portion. Their coffee was weak and slushy.

The Sunday Roast special 2 courses was £10.95, which is good value for money.

Overall, I was fortunate that I wasn't paying the bill.

The Carpenters Arms, Marble Arch

Staff were very displeased at being asked to turn the volume up to watch the football with commentary. They have three screens.

On my visit on a Saturday they did not serve food. Although in a back street it was very busy.

What is the point in showing football matches when they won't let you hear the commentary?

If you want to watch football I suggest you would be better off finding somewhere else to watch.

Flynn's, West Ealing

The first time in this pub in years. What you immediately notice is the friendly bar staff who have a laugh with their customers rather then making smiley small talk.

A pint of Guinness was £3.10 which is 90p cheaper than the Drayton Court. Onion rings were £2.00 and a burger which comes with chips and salad was £4.95.

If I had to say one thing which the pub could improve on then it would be the slow service. Happy to recommend

The Drayton Court, West Ealing

I've been here twice in the last six weeks specifically to watch ESPN. Although all the Sky channels seem to work, they constantly have interuption to ESPN. The channel isn't received on their satellite, so the screen just goes blank (with the message "no satellite signal received", or if the signal works the picture freezes.

Not ideal when you've made a special trip to the pub and then pay west-end prices to watch a game which you can't watch because the bar staff don't bother to do anything to rectify it. In my example they had six weeks to bring in an engineer, but hadn't bothered to contact one.

The moral of all of this is that if you want to watch something on ESPN then go to another pub.

Staff are young and smiley. The food is efficiently served, but you would find it hard to argue against it being expensive. The beer garden is great and you can take your bike into the garden by using the side entrance that is accessed from Gordon Road.

The Sheepwalk Tavern, Acton

I can't agree more with Sheepwalker. I came here for the first time last week. Travellers, travellers and more travellers. By the end of the evening they thought we (my mate and I) were C.I.D. - because we were too law abiding! I won't be coming back!

Pool table is sugar!
