The Coach and Horses, Clerkenwell

Bit of a gastropub this, with the majority of punters turning up for the food. Probably just as well since the beer was disappointingly average. Quality bar service though.

The Betsey Trotwood, Clerkenwell

Decent pub with tiny cellar room for music gigs. Clientelle is split between local office workers and people turning up to see bands. Quality not quantity is very much order of the day regarding their range of ales!

The Sherlock Holmes, Charing Cross

Tourist-tastic, but quite a nice little boozer nonetheless. Normally a few decent hand-pulled ales available. Best in warmer weather when outside drinking is possible.

The Kings Arms, Wandsworth

Lovely local pub next to the Young's brewery, serving good ale in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Never gets too busy, even on a Saturday night. A good place to relax and read the Sunday papers.

The Alehouse, Reading

Amazing in every respect! Outstanding choice of great real ale, but cider and perry drinkers won't go thirsty either. Sensible policy of banning mobile phones. This is beer Nirvana!

The Three Guineas, Reading

No less than 8 decent quality hand-pulled ales on tap with friendly and efficient service. Usual station pub fixtures e.g. wall-to-wall fruities. Gets a bit busy when Reading FC are playing at home as it is a designated away-supporters pub. Best in good weather when you can drink outside.

The Punch And Judy, Covent Garden

Truly awful. Everything from the rude, unknowledgeable, staff to the overpriced drinks made visiting this place a positively abhorrent experience. When I asked if they had any real beer, I got offered John Smith's -- 'nuff said. Only redeeming feature is the balcony which gives pleasant views out over the Piazza.
