Chesterfield Arms, Chesterfield

Superb beer at a superb pub!

21 Feb 2011 11:54

The Moot, Sneinton

Have been in twice recently and the new owners are making a great job of it. There were 5 or 6 ales plus 2 ciders and a perry last evening. The Oakham and Blue Monkey beers were in abolutely tip-top condition!

The Ketts Tavern, Norwich

A great pub and a very warm welcome - especially on Saturday lunch when the landlady actually PEELED some REAL potatoes so that me and my mate could have some chips to accompany our bacon rolls.

The Norwich Bear beers on offer were superb and I we'll definintely be back next time in Norwich.

4 Oct 2010 16:43

The Coach and Horses, Norwich

I had high hopes for this place but to be honest found the quality of the beers on offer to be a complete let down - not a patch on the nearby Jubilee or Ketts

4 Oct 2010 16:40

The Jubilee, Norwich

Lovely backstreet boozer with a good selection of ales and a 4pint jug discount - always popular when you're in a biggish round!

4 Oct 2010 16:39

The Cidershed, Norwich

Looks rubbish from the outside and the dodgy books on sale in the foyer are a bit off putting but when you get inside - wow!

4 Oct 2010 16:37

The Duke of Wellington, Norwich

I think this is a real humdinger of a place with a fantastic range of ales and served up in a friendly and welcoming atmos. Well worth the schlep from the town centre.

4 Oct 2010 16:36

The Wig and Pen, Norwich

I had high hopes for this place but to be honest the beer selection on offer was somewhat unimaginitve and the JHB I had was fairly unpalatable.

4 Oct 2010 16:33

Gardeners Arms, Norwich

I suppose some of the pictures, etc. on the walls are a bit bizarre, but to be fair there are loads of news articles explaining the origins of the pub's alternative name.

I have given this pub an 8, as in my opinion it should first and foremost get assessed for the great quality and selection of its BEERS.

4 Oct 2010 16:30

The Fat Cat, Norwich

This is an absolutely fantastic pub and with the fine selection of ales it's no wonder that every known and again you might have to wait a few minutes to get served!

4 Oct 2010 16:15

The Alexandra Tavern, Norwich

Great back street boozer with a fair to middling selction of ales.

4 Oct 2010 16:14

The Red Heart, Ruddington

Pleasantly surpirsed by beer quality and general atmosphere in this pub.

1 Sep 2010 13:54

The Cross Keys, Nottingham

A decent pint of Oakham JHB and at 2.30 (with 20p CAMRA discount) I don't count that as expenesive these days.

1 Sep 2010 13:47

The Fisherman's Arms, Plymouth

I popped into this rather excellent boozer last Friday evening around 7:30 ish in need of a livener. I asked the barman for help with directions to another part of Plymouth and no sooner had I asked, than the landlady summoned her younger son from upstairs to bring down his laptop. Google maps was fired up and by 7:40pm I was nicely refreshed after a pint of Proper Job and fully briefed on how to get to where I needed to across town. Thnaks very much The Fisherman's Arms!

12 Apr 2010 12:10

Ale Emporium, Preston

Great beer and a buzzing Saturday night atmosphere.

15 Mar 2010 13:15

The Black Horse Hotel, Preston

An absolute gem!

Fantastic beers, friendly and helpful bar staff, superb interior with lots of separate rooms.

Proudly old-fashioned, but spotlessly clean and efficiently run - just like a traditional town centre pub should be.

15 Mar 2010 13:12

The Old Vic, Preston

Great pub that was busy - but we got a friendly welcome and some decent Moorhouse's ale.

15 Mar 2010 13:05

Queen Adelaide, Sneiton

Good beer and in Gilly there's a great character as landlord.

22 Jan 2010 16:20

The Hole in the Wall, Colchester

A great selection of real ales on my midweek visit - at least 4 including an excellent Thornbridge Brother Rabbit.

15 Dec 2009 13:15

The Odd One Out, Colchester

Very characterful pub a bit out of the way of the others in the town.

Alas the beer was in a bit of a bad way on my visit. Hopefully another time they'll get it right.

15 Dec 2009 13:12

The Fat Cat, Colchester

Quite a trendy place really though there was a good selection of beers when I made a midweek visit.

15 Dec 2009 13:07

The Fox and Fiddler, Colchester

Great pub - great beer - Mighty Oak Yellow Snow in fine form!

15 Dec 2009 13:05

The Red Lion, Hinxton

Nice pub. Beer good (Woodforrde's Wherry) if a bit pricey.

15 Dec 2009 13:03

Crown Inn, Beeston

This has reecently been 'rescued' from Hardy Hanson/Greedy King and reinvented itself as a fantastic multi-ale beer emprorium.

On my viist the beer range was fantastic and the qualtiy and prices superb.

12 Nov 2009 12:55

The Druids Tavern, Arnold

Building has now been flattened!

16 Oct 2009 13:16

King William IV, Nottingham

A real gem of a pub - loads of different ales, sports screen, friendly staff annd locals!

6 Oct 2009 14:30

Gascoyne Place, Bath

Reasonable beer but quite a lot of 'weirdos' in when I staggered in there last Friday evening!

6 Oct 2009 14:24

The White Horse, Twerton

I think this is well worth the trek up the hill. A warm and friendly welcome, 4 or 5 great ales on tap, cheese or ham crusty rolls for just 1 and now home to the (soon to be) world-reknowned Garlic Appreciation Society!

6 Oct 2009 14:23

The Pulteney Arms, Bath

This is a great street corner pub that had 4 or 5 well kept ales on tap when I visited last Friday. Made most welcome even though I was wearing a Leciester Tigers rugby top!

6 Oct 2009 14:19

The Masons Arms, Louth

Sadly now closed and boarded up.

28 Apr 2009 13:35

The Old Silk Mill, Derby

Now sadly closed & boarded up.

21 Apr 2009 14:51

The White Hart, Nottingham

21 Apr 2009 14:50

Bonhommes Bar, Filey

I found this to be a delightful pub with a welcome that was as warm as the real fire and as friendly as the young and pleasant bar staff.

There were 5 real ales on offer and reasonably priced too.

All in all pretty good really for midweek in early December.

4 Dec 2008 14:33

The Coach and Horses, Weatheroak Hill

This is a fantastic pub and the beer was superb!

21 Aug 2008 11:50

The Bell Inn, Stilton

This is a fabulous pub on a previously important, but now somewhat quieter, main road. The Oakham JHB was quite superb and the welcome we recieved was warm and unobtrusive.

31 Oct 2007 12:30

The Bulls Head, East Leake

Oh dear the real beer is now almost completely undrinkable!

26 Mar 2007 20:48

The Hand and Heart, Nottingham

Alas, this pub has been closed for quite some time now.

26 Mar 2007 20:30

Soar Bridge Inn, Barrow On Soar

Another superb pub with a much improved atmosphere and 4 or 5 real ales to choose from.

13 Jan 2007 11:19

The Navigation Inn, Barrow upon Soar

I agree with Ninja45 - this is a superb canalside pub with excellent beer and a friendly atmosphere.

13 Jan 2007 11:18

The Sidings, Castletown

A fine selection of 6 or 7 ales on offer when we were in.

Although packed, we were made to feel very welcome with the locals.

Keenly-priced toasted sanswiches available.

8 Oct 2006 21:50

The Bridge Inn, Laxey

Smoky town centre alehouse understandably popular with the locals.

As mainland beer-tourists we were made to feel very welcome though.

8 Oct 2006 21:47

The Queens Hotel, Laxey

Great pub with (mercifully) a couple of guest ales to supplement the ubiquitous IOM-brewed beers.

8 Oct 2006 21:45

The Shore Hotel, Laxey

Nice pub that has a brewery attached to it, spoilt only by the idiot know-it-all biker propping up the bar.

8 Oct 2006 21:44

The Mines Tavern, Laxey

Smashing boozer with 4 fine ales on offer.

Great lunchtime fayre also.

My only grouse is - why have the telly on all day when no-one is watching it and the sound is down low anyway??

8 Oct 2006 21:42

The Griffin Inn, Shustoke

Absolutely brilliant pub that has everything:

Great beer (7 or 8 handpulled ales)

Great food (big portions at reasonable prices)

ROARRING Real fire

Affable landlord

Oh yes and you can buy fresh eggs and fresh veg here too!

8 Oct 2006 21:39

The Rovers Return, Douglas

Great pub, great beer!

8 Oct 2006 21:36

The Queens Hotel, Douglas

They seem to serve massive food-portions but the beer was only OK.

A great view from the outside drinking area.

8 Oct 2006 21:35

The Prospect Hotel, Douglas

A pretty good pub half way up a steep hill.

We went on Thursday, quiz night, and it was the longest pub-quiz that I've ever entered into - a total of 170 questions!!!!

8 Oct 2006 21:34

The Old Market Inn, Douglas

This is a bit, no alot of an old-fashioned boozer, but served a decentish pint.

8 Oct 2006 21:32

The Albert Hotel, Douglas

One of the smokiest pubs I've ever been in!

8 Oct 2006 21:30

The King William IV, Milford

Unfortunately it doesn't have the Leadmills beers on tap but still serves a decent pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord

22 Aug 2006 21:09

The Moot, Sneinton

'tis a good job there are so many ales, ciders, etc. coz last time I was in The Moot, John the barman told me to 'stop waving that stick about'

28 Jun 2006 20:19

The Bacchus, Newcastle

I really enjoyed my hour and a half in here the other night. They had 4 or 5 real ales in tip-top condition and the price was reasonable to say it is quite trendy.

6 Apr 2006 19:02

Minibrowar Spiz, Wroclaw

This is a superb micro brewery in the centre of Wroclaw (a city that is now on the Euro-tourist map as you can get cheap flights from London and Nottingham).

It is quite spacious and serves 3 of its home-brewed beers.

21 Mar 2006 20:34

The Saracens Head, Southwell

Poshish bar of poshish hotel serving 2 or 3 real ales. Very popular and has some comfy couches.

21 Jan 2006 15:12

La Cervoise, Paris

This has a fantastique range of bottle conditioned beers from France and Belgium.

When I visited they had such gems as Cervoise du Lancelot, Oc'Ale, Jenlain, Biere du Demon, Grain d'Orge, Chimay, Duvel and many more.

They're dead friendly, it does a great range of authentic French food and it's just off the Champs Elysee.

13 Dec 2005 18:51

The Roebuck Inn, Nottingham

I reckon this place has improved threefold since going totally non-smoking. This seems to have driven out most of the all-day drinking scrotes who used to make the place a bit foreboding in the early evening.

9 Dec 2005 21:27

The Rat and Ratchet, Huddersfield

This is a tip top ale house.

There were 9 or 10 different beers to choose from all well below 2 quid a pint when I visited.

There's a cracking jukebox and the chip butties at 1.30 are a bargain.

30 Nov 2005 19:29

The Peacock, Nottingham

I have reluctantly reduced my score for this place owing to the petulant stroppy barman. When I asked, politely, for a top up he slammed down the glass in such a childish manner that it spilt more beer out of the glass than before!

1 Jun 2005 23:19

The Tollemache arms, Alpraham

Roadside pub offering 2 or 3 real ales and a fairly standard menu

31 May 2005 15:02

The Union Vaults, Chester

Great little back street pub

31 May 2005 15:00

The Mill Hotel, Chester

This is one of those Desert Island Pubs that should, and most definitely is in this case, cherished by Cestrian regulars, real ale tourists, foreign visitors, etc, etc.

The term Real Ale Mecca is not superlative enough for this converted warehouse/mill!

An absolutely superb range of 15 ales AND a real cider are always served AND they do great, big-portioned bar food AND they have have a top quality Italian restaurant AND they have a plasma screen (which is big but the sound doesn't blast out) AND they have enough proper barstaff on duty AND they offer fairly priced top quality hotel rooms AND it is pleasantly located next to the canal AND is reasonably priced for Chester.

I would like to give this 11 out of 10 if I could (this would be 12 if it was nearer to where I live!!!!)

GET YOURSELVES DOWN THERE!!.

31 May 2005 14:52

Ring OBells, Christleton

Lovely pub in the heart of this village.

The bar is still a well-appointed locals' drinking area, the lounge is now a high quality food area.

Timothy Taylor's Landlord was in fine form on my visit.

31 May 2005 14:36

The Old Trooper, Christleton

Now a Beefeater pub - but at least they have Pedigree and Draught Boddingtons available

31 May 2005 14:33

The Bridge Inn, Pontblyddyn

This is a lovely old (C16th) pub that has recently been taken over. There are several smallish drinking rooms and a larger eating area.

Two real ales were on offer when I was there - I can remember that the Courage Directors was in fine form.

31 May 2005 14:31

The Albion Inn, Chester

This really is a superb example of what all back street pubs should be.

It is the perfect place to enjoy BEER in the EVENING.

They serve their ales in fine condition and by the look on the faces of people who were eating on my visit, the food must be great as well, it cetrtainly smelt nice!!!

31 May 2005 11:04

Messrs Maguire, Dublin

Nice pub in old building overlooking the Liffey, just near O'Connell Bridge.

It serves loads of different beers, some brewed in their own microbrewery.

Good sized-food portions and loasd of tellys/big screens

4 Apr 2005 17:24

The Bodega, Newcastle

The 6 or 7 handpumps with a varied selection of local brews and beers from further afield give this a Cobbo wow factor of 9!!

A super drinking place

13 Jan 2005 19:29

The Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham

This pub is quite simply fantastic. I've never had a bad pint in here.

There's always a selection of about 6 or 7 draught beers on offer. 3 or so from the Castle Rock brewery next door and 3 guest beers. In addition there is a wide range of bottled Belgian and Czech (+ I think some other continental) stuff and loads of single malts.

The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the beer and they serve very large, good priced cobs (rolls to you southern lot) that have plentiful fillings.

They always have the daily 'quality' papers as well!
