The Old Justice, Bermondsey

The most disgusting fish and chips I've ever ordered.

I agree with mrse1, the place needs better management cos these people aint got a clue.

Never used to be this bad!!

Browns, Tower Bridge

The slightly sombre neighbour to All Bar One a few doors down. Never seems that busy in here, infact we counted more staff than punters - but the service is good. Good place to come if you want a bit of P & Q after a noisy evening at ABO.

The Horniman at Hays, Southwark

Nice pub, great location but sort out the service. Total let down.

Number 1 Bar, London Bridge

sounds like a right dump

The John Evelyn, Deptford

nothing like what they showed on 'The Tower', but still a fookin dump.

The Garden Ladder, Harringay

"Also, I think it's really cheeky that the Garden Ladder has pinched the best comments from here to put on their own website. Why don't they design their website so that people can post comments directly on there or are they too selective?"

The Old Dairy, Finsbury Park

Went in on my own a few weeks ago, and I love the building. Staff very friendly, got served straight away!

Stopped by for something to eat, and was not disappointed. The food was fantastic and the service was good.

Don't care if the place is filled with nu media oiks (whatever the f*** they are!) as long as I can relax.

The Woodbine, Highbury

Nicely decked out, very welcoming pub. There is a graffiti style mural above the bar which I guess gives it a cool urbanite feeling. I love the stuffed bear's head on the wall.

Get packed later on with plenty of young professionals spending their cash on beer and wine. Well kept lager on tap, other varieties kept in the fridge.

Nice pub, although my only gripe would be the food. Everywhere you go its thai food on the menu. Be nice it they did something British. And no, I'm not being racist. Couldn't they get Nigel Slater on the case, he only lives up the road?

The Ship, Soho

Fantastic boozer, just like a boozer should be, unpretentious and unself-conscious. Amazed to find out that the original punk stars, a la Sex Pistols, Clash Siouxsie & Banshees, X-Ray Specs used to drink in here! My heroes! This has a reputation as a musicians pub, and the staff and the music they play are testament to that. Great place to start or finish on a friday.

The Alexandra Bar and Eating House, Finsbury Park

Big pub opposite the park on Seven Sisters Road. I have used this place a couple of times, and the staff behind the bar are welcoming and friendly. In particular, the South African lady who strikes up conversation with most people and livens the place up a bit.
The Thai food here looks very good, and seems to be a reason why most people visit.
I think the place does get busy, but not when I've been in.

The Lord Palmerston, Walthamstow

One of those pubs where the totty behind the bar thinks she's god's gift, and throws your change on the counter rather than in your hand. Bitch. Beer is crap too. Walthamstow is full of shite, rough pubs.

The Island Queen, Islington

If you're in Islington, give this place a visit - it's stunning, idiosyncratic and has a nice vibe to it.

The Library, Islington

A great venue on the wrong end of Upper St. The bar is fantastic, selling every conceivable drink you can imagine. No snooty barstaff either, just a friendly crowd who know how to have fun.

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

Obscured by the vast Waterloo station, this is indeed a charming find. An old style boozer with a great atmosphere, two bars, and a tiny bog. Not the place to bring your stilletoed girlfriend, however. It's a friendly, and sociable place, which belies it's slightly forbidding appearance. Think Charles Dickens and you'll get an idea of it's Victorian ambience.

The Ring, Southwark

A great pub for a drink after work, or whenever. Gets very busy. Full of beautiful people.

Stamford's Wine Bar, Southwark

Any description of a pub being 'a dump' causes me to think there must be something nice about the place. I'm a born optimist when it comes to 'dumps'. I've been in here a couple of times, and it's not that bad. It's a tad expensive and its in the middle of a 60's style concrete monstosity with matching shops. Once inside, it's relaxing with friendly staff. The Hock is very nice too.

Founders Arms, Bankside

I sympathise with other people who have had bad experiences at this watering hole. I have been going in here on and off for the past 12 years, and have to say it used to be a great boozer before Youngs did the ubiquitous overhaul and charged almost double as a result. Great for the views obviously, and it's close to better pubs (The Anchor, Thameside Inn, The Globe). I've never had any 'problems' with the staff, although if treated the same as other comments on here, I would make them wear my drink.

St Christopher's Inn, Borough

If you have any Ozzy mates, take 'em to this place. A full-on young crowd, gets very racous at the weekend, sometimes a bit overbearing if you're an old git like me. Plenty of oppurtunity to get steaming and enjoy the atmosphere, especially if you sneak in the downstairs private bar. Enjoy.

23 Jul 2005 23:28

The Trinity, Borough

This was one of my locals when I lived in the area, and I used to go in every night after work and get hammered. It has changed in the last 10 or so years, with managers coming and going. It's nothing spectacular, infact it used to have a troublesome history. I've made some good mates in there. It gets busy with the pool players, and it's a long walk from the bar to the bog when you've had one too many, otherwise an average pub, typical of Greene King chain style pubs. NB. the ashtrays are worth nicking. Glasses too.

23 Jul 2005 23:20

Dover Castle, Borough

one of the only places in the area to have a late licence during the week - no need to wolf your drinks down at 10.45pm. I've had some great nights in here, where the atmoshere has been kicking. My only reservation is some of the doorman, who think they're doing you a massive favour by letting you in. I've actually been refused entry (god knows why). However, that didn't stop me going back there.

23 Jul 2005 23:12

Ruse, Borough

Quite a nice bar, and not as pretentious as some of the other joints around the Borough. Relaxing atmosphere, you haven't got some jobsworth emptying your ashtray every five minutes. I've pulled in here a couple of times as well, so it's one of my faves!

23 Jul 2005 22:36

The Ship, Borough

I've been in here a few times, usually just to have a leak. Apart from the usual office workers, there is an air of 'surveilance' about the place, being just over the road from the Old Bill. Plenty of bent coppers talking shop. Best to keep your head down, and get on wiv your drink!

23 Jul 2005 22:32

Charlie Chaplin, Elephant and Castle

not a bad pub really, very down to earth crowd....watch your bags in there though.

23 Jul 2005 22:28

The Mudlark, London Bridge

Another place that's recently had a 'refurb'. Shame, as I always liked it as it was. This is the sad evidence of pubs chasing the corporate pound - over-priced (to pay for the refurb, obviously). The floorboards are nice though...

20 Jul 2005 22:15

The Globe, London Bridge

One of my faves, been using this place for well over 10 years. Proper London boozer, unpretentious, good fun and friendly. The building itself is well worth a visit. A tubular pub! You can walk round in circles trying to get to the bogs. (After 10 years, I should know where they are now).

20 Jul 2005 22:08

Kings Arms, Borough

Proper boozer, no pretentions. Good for watching the football if you can't get to the Den. Always packed after work, great atmosphere, nice staff

20 Jul 2005 22:02

The Royal Oak, Borough

The place to go if you want real ale. No buts about it. I'd recommend the place, for the beer obviously, but also it's so unusual - no music, bygone atmosphere, something very Roysten Vasey (League of Gentlemen) about it. Can become quite surreal after a few Harveys, not to mention the over-weight chef who's tongue is a sharp as a knife. Weird!!

20 Jul 2005 21:58

Lazy, Tower Bridge

I was totally awe-struck when I visited this place - it used to be the Liam Ogs pub, a traditional kind of boozer. Now its completely changed beyond what it was before. The decor and style is sort of 60's minimalism, if you get my drift. Seems to attract a younger crowd now, whereas before it was anything goes. Check it out, and the Kings Head across the road. That's been re-vamped too. A warm, friendly atmosphere. Well done guys for transforming this place.

20 Jul 2005 21:47

The Bridge House, Tower Bridge

OK, so the food looks impressive, but the beer prices are well over-inflated. Seems to be a very cliquey place, with one sour-puss of a manageress scouling at any unfamiliar faces not spending enough money. I have met the manager, and he's a top bloke, but never seems to be there often.

20 Jul 2005 21:38

The Stapleton Tavern, Finsbury Park

Overpriced 'gastro' joint. Not very interesting. The kind of place boring, middle-class parents take their infants on a sunday arvo, tucking into their poached salmon and balsamic vinegar mash....

20 Jul 2005 21:25

Chapter One, Finsbury Park

Beautifully decked out, quite a romantic place to take your partner/date. But get there early if you wanna sit down. The bands are OK but tend to attract a folk, hand-clapping audience dribbling in their pants.

20 Jul 2005 21:20

The Gaslight, Finsbury Park

God-awful, character-less place selling overpriced, warm beer. There always seem to be more people dossing behind the bar than actual paying punters. Avoid and go to the Twelve pins instead. Unless you like feeling like a corpse.

20 Jul 2005 21:15

The Twelve Pins, Finsbury Park

Great for watching the football, always packed, great service. Prices are reasonable, thank god the place hasn't become like an All Bar One. Massive Irish contigency, friendly boozer.

20 Jul 2005 21:12

The Blackstock, Finsbury Park

Not the trendiest pub on the planet, but who cares? I was told to avoid this pub by locals, I ignored them and got stuck in with the cheap(ish) prices and have no complaints about the quality of the beer. The regulars tend to sit in the place all day (and night) wasting their giro's. Some of the old geezers have a story to tell and on the whole seem friendly enough. Just don't expect a bowl of olives with your pint! A relaxing down to earth boozer.
