The Horseshoe Inn, Mamhilad

i am pleased to report after a recent visit that the Horseshoe is back in business and is offering a modern twist on the classic country pub. Well kept ales and an interesting choices on tap - including Doom Bar and Brooklyn lager (which i don't think i've even seen in Wales before!). A superb choice of specials were also on offer, the local cider was top notch, as was our meal. Really pleasing to find this fantastic location has a pub to match. Full marks to the lovely landladies that have brought the Horseshoe back to life!

The Horseshoe Inn, Mamhilad

Should never have messed with the classic country pub formula, when this place was great. Lets hope it gets new owners that want to restore the place to its former glories...

The Park Tavern, Southfields

Great old school boozer. Nice inside and out. Great choice of lagers including Tiger and beer including Wadsworth 6X - love it.

The Roebuck, Hampton Hill

This is a great pub with a fine choice of drinks, in the unlikely location of Hampton. It's the kind of place you'd expect to find in the countryside. The cleaner must have quite a job dusting this place with all the memorabilia hanging off the walls and ceiling - including a wicker motorbike... epic stuff.

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

One of my favourite pubs. Great to find a boozer in London that serves Perry on tap, though they seriously need to rethink the 4.50 price tag...

The Dog Inn, Wingham

A bit more of a restaurant than a pub but a lovely place none the less. My wife and I stayed over and were impressed with the relaxed atmosphere and excellent range off drinks on offer. Will definitely be visiting agin next time we are in the area.

The Waggon and Horses, Surbiton

Much better pub these days, has a really nice feel to it and plent of cosy seating areas. Good choice of lagers and the menu has guaranteed my return, soon. It is rare that a pub comes out better after a re-fit but Youngs have managed it.

The Sun Inn, Chobham

Totally agree with Surreypubgoer, this place is a proper old school pub - they do jazz and sunday lunch and a fine selection of ales - what could be better? I travel all the way from Surbiton...nuff said.

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

Best pub in the area, no arguements. I always have a good time when visiting this pub. It is just far enough away from the high street to avoid the crowds that frequent all the crappy bars. They are even serving perry on tap this summer :)

The Wild Duck Inn, Ewen

I've been back and i am pleased to report that the Wild Duck is back on top form; excellent food and beer :)

The Sun Inn, Barnes

Excellent boozer, serving all manner of interesting lagers. Nice decor, decent grub and fab location - always worth stopping for a pint.

The Queens Head, Cirencester

Rough and ready, this is a good local pub. I'm not a local but am always well looked after when passing through. Great pub dog and good banter.

The Plough, East Sheen

Hold the front page- Just days after I was telling someone how i love this pub because it never changes, I find, to my horror, that the building is gutted and won't reopen until mid-june. A refurbished Plough, I just hope they know what they are doing...

The Hunters Rest, Clutton

I've just spent a lovely night at this pub. The lager was fine and the accomodation was excellent. Special mention must go to the Oggies, i recomend the 'Welsh Dragon' (lamb and chili casserole). Definitely worth a visit. The governor was very friendly to a Londoner and makes a first class somerset breakfast.

The Plough, East Sheen

TeeJay, you will be pleased to know that The Plough is about to become a no smoking pub. Phaze one has already been implemented, the cigaette machine has gone. The hops and annoying tv set above the bar have also vanished. Grolsh has been removed from the tap and replaced by San Miguel, it's all change at the Plough. Now sort out the bloody food! (Teriyaki Rump Steak indeed...)

The Railway, Mortlake

Good news. The Railway has started serving a selection of pies from Borough Market. Nice touch. The manager has also gone :)

The Wild Duck Inn, Ewen

The Wild Duck is indeed a lovely pub, one of the nicest I know and the food used to be great. Last time I visited however, the food was poor, there was even evidence of plastic in my fish sauce. The staff are also most unhelpful and service is slow. Such a shame, hopefully things will pick up again.

The Britannia, Richmond

Well worth a visit, probably the best pub in the town centre and yes, the comedy is a good way to liven up your Sunday night. San Miguel is served on tap which is a nice touch for lager drinkers.

The Sun, Richmond

A lovely old school boozer. I can't stand rugby but it doesn't stop me enjoying this pub that is nicely tucked away by the green.

The Bull, Hinton

Great pub and great food. i sat by the fire and had a really enjoyable lunch here. Friendly staff and an excellent place to stop off at if you are travelling past Bath on the M4. It is about 5 minutes off the motorway and a million times more pleasant than eating at a service station.

The Cricketers, Kingston Upon Thames

The best pub in Kingston. Just out of the centre and away from all the muppets. Very cosy inside and nice fairy lights decorating the place. Good for a night out or a quiet pint. Good staff which is a bonus.

31 May 2006 16:30

Shaftesbury Arms, Richmond

I go in here from time to time and I love it. I always find a seat, even on a Friday night. This place is a breath of fresh air, compared to most the crappy pubs that populate Richmond town centre. Good atmosphere and decent Thai food.

31 May 2006 16:26

The Fordwich Arms, Fordwich

This is a quality pub. I lived in Fordwich for a year in 2002 and have been back a few times since. Despite the hiddeous wallpaper this is a classic country pub. Good quality food and drink and the govenor was usually pissed out of his head by closing time, excellent.

31 May 2006 16:21

The Weighbridge, Nailsworth

The pub is in Nailsworth and is one of my favourite pubs. It is a real country pub with well kept ales and it has a warm old pub feel to it. It is known as the 2in1 pub as it is famous for its 2in1 pies. These pies come in different flavours and sizes and are simply stunning. Half meat and half cauliflower cheese with a pastry crust, awesome.

31 May 2006 16:12

The Falkland Arms, Great Tew

A fantastic real pub. They don't even serve lager. They do have a fine array of beers, local cider and country wines. The food is also fantastic. the staff are friendly and the accommodation is delightful. It is a wonderful romantic setting. I got so carried away that I proposed to my girlfriend there. She said 'yes', so I give it the big thumbs up. If you like real fires, snuff and clay pipes this is your pub.

31 May 2006 15:39

The Railway, Mortlake

It's not all doom and gloom here. The lager is always nice and cold and you can usually find a seat. What lets this place down is it's lack of any character, a bit like the bar manager. Service with a smile, no chance.

31 May 2006 15:34

The Plough, East Sheen

The Plough is a classic pub and I've been drinking there since I started drinking. The Ploughettes are legendary. Grolsh and Kronnenbourg are on tap for lager drinkers. I understand the management is changing and hopefully it won't change the pub too much. Bob, the real life Alan Partridge is a regular (see if you can spot him). One thing that I hope the new govenors sort out is the food. A pub this good has no excuse for the poverty of any decent pub grub, you can practically hear the microwave ping.

31 May 2006 15:30

The Pig and Whistle, East Sheen

my nearest pub and typically it is an absolute dump. Full of thugs and never worth a visit despite the budget priced drinks. Cheap prices and cheap people, best avoided.

31 May 2006 15:22

The Charlie Butler, Mortlake

This pub has finally had a refurb and looks like it is here to stay. Youngs have done it up nicely and have kept the two seperate bars. The shocking wallpaper is now gone and the new furnishings are mainly brown. The Polish barmaids offer great service and red stripe is on tap, so i'm happy. It attracts a good mix of people and there is always a friendly atmosphere. It is still a proper pub as opposed to most the aweful bars around the area.
