The Rodney, Saltash

I like this pub as of late, good for the football games as they are one of the only pubs in Saltash that you can guarentee catching the 'match'. Tidy and clean and a nice selection of beers.

Be glad there's one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Currently undergoing major refurbishments in the lounge and toilets, which will be interesting to regard once complete, the cecil was amazing already, now it'll be amazing and newer.

The Two Bridges, Saltash

Went in recently to sample the beer garden, which i must say is looking great, and extremely spacious. Should prove popular once the smoking ban is in place. Although the edition of a couple of patio heaters would go down a treat.

I'll also return to have the pleasure of being served by the lovely barmaid that was on at the time, an added bonus to a great pub.

Still going strong i hear, and Dave's still a legend. Will visit during the Easter period.

Salt at the George, Mumbles

agree with the last comment, group of 6 of us tried to get in once on a crawl, we weren't drunk yet but they wouldn't let more than a group of 5 in. WTF's the point in that? It only takes 1 person to start trouble, whats the difference. They could have had 50-60 off us that night, silly tossers.

The Famous Bear, Mumbles

The Famous Queer as it's known in student circles, usually full of skoda chavs. Wouldnt go there unless it was a mates bday crawl.

The Wig, Swansea

Best pub in Swansea, by far. Cleaner than a nun's criminal record and always something going on. They have the best rotating selection of ales around, but seem to have slowed down the change around recently.

The Uplands Tavern, Swansea

i reckon it's rob siddons who's the smelly type, stay at home with your black rain cloud and bah humbug attitude. This pub calls itself the best live music venue in south wales, not sure if that is totally accurate but it does a damn good job.

The Bay View, Swansea

i think i may encourage my mates to take this pub under their wing, i can see myself drinking in their more often.

Look at that picture eh! This pub looks as majestic as the ancient temple of Zingersha, and as elegent as the Sultans Of Brunai's sitting room. And Dave will greet you with a smile everytime. Unless you tell him Holland's back soon.

The Jukebox needs updating though. My only qualm still.

May phil be with you, and all who drink ale in her! The Cecil

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Another pub in Swansea has now been refurbished. The Smoking Dog, now called the Mill, looks too posh for its old clientele, and prices have been hiked as well. It may struggle. But if you desire a clean, smart pub to relax in briefly, here's your man.

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Completely refurbished now, and looks smart as. The intital love with this pub will last while the weather is warm for sitting outside, and i imagine it will become quieter as time passes. Still, nice pub to go on occasion.

Been a while since a comment has been posted for this legend of a pub. Some may have said the popularity had wained, but they were wrong, and so was i, i still love this place and its staff. I can't wait till the christmas holidays when i am back in Saltash to frequent this fine establishment once again, for it has been a while.

8:35, 3213 and all that..... RESPECT>!!!!!!!

Been a while since the joy of Cecil Poetry.
Also been a while since i have graced this establishment. So from the heart this one.

Many days till my return
hope Phil wont be that stern
i long for the chance to sup the beer
in the cecil with dave that dear
he's such a laugh and i must admitt
his hair aint bad, its not that shit
As for Pete, well what a bloke
he makes me laugh with a great joke
the other guys, well they all rule
and for phils steak, i still drool
So when im back ill make it last
and drink the drink until half past (eleven)

the greatest pub is called the cecil
a bonafide drinking vessel
phil's the captain, its such a joy
to make fun of dave his cabin boy
pete the pirate steals some kids
then to the fruit machine to make some bids
all crew do agree
that trystan can be bosan smee
so come aboard the cecil lad
drink some foss foss, it aint so bad

A new poem all about the Cecil, may you long be with us and always supply us with thine beer.

We're in the cecil oh what joy
with phil and peter, dave and roy
We play some darts, maybe The Who
and don't forget the fosters to
Pete tells some jokes and wins some money
the dirty ones are always funny
as most of us all agree
dave the barmans cool yet gee
but comes a time when we must leave
see you next time, who is steve?

This poem was brought to you by the letter C and the number 1. Look out for more Cecil poems in the future.

This must be a good pub, as i would find it very stange for a lad of my tender age, a bairn at 19, to have such an unhealthy obsession with a building and its owners. But i do and it is the simple fact that this place really and truly is a damn nice, quality, friendly, warm, pleasent, funny, amazingly delighful place to spend a part of my life at. Just look back, and you find a negative comment about this baby, then look at Saltash's other pubs and realise where it is at. I have made it my business to tell you of this place, and challenge you to spend an evening here with some friends and not enjoy urself, it cant be done, trust me. May it long continue, may it long reign. In Phil we trust, with Dave we laugh, and with Pete we go, ey bert, 8:35 i say, here's a Best, i say here's a Best. Now, who threw that, i say.

The Ploughboy Inn, Saltash

Big pub, big restaurant area, fairly big beer garden and nice spacious bar areas. A little out of the way for most of the town, but no major hike to get there. Beer is ok, not tried the food, although i am assured it is of a good standard. You will find me here only for special reasons, pub crawl, gathering only.

The Boatman, Saltash

Cant really comment on this pub fully as it is under very new management who appear to be making some nice additions to what essentially is (see previous posts) a nice little restaurant that is a pub second. Well worth a family visit for a treat. Nice job, will pop back soon to see progress

The Waterside, Saltash

A year on from Trystans comment and it couldn't now be further from the truth. The landlord is a cantankerous old seadog and the pub is a pit. OK they had some flooding, but this was after i last saw it. Cold, boring and not worth the climb back up the hill. If i cud say one positive thing about the waterside it would be that they have or had live chipmuunks there, and are now prob the only living thing that is in this pub. New owner please.

The Union Inn, Saltash

Down by the riverside, and amongst a collection of other pubs. This delightfully rustic building is a pleasure to behold. The inside is a step back in time and is possibly the oldest pub around the area. Nice views of the bridges and a warm friendly feel to it, may even better by the ever present live music acts, which can be a joy to watch. Nice pub, no qualms about this one, good beer and a good start to a crawl.

The Railway Hotel, Saltash

This pub is nothing more than hostile. I feel unwelcome and a victim of stereotyping (youth). The watchful glare of the bar staff and dislike for non-hardcore locals is quite offputting. I will not say a word against the beer, it is up there with the best kept pints in saltash. But it loses marks in my book for a slightly cold atmos.

The Two Bridges, Saltash

i really like this pub, its may be one of, if not the smallest boozer in saltash, but it makes up in warm welcomes what it lacks in size. Also its position on one of the steepest hills for miles can put off certain members of society, i.e the disabled, the old, the unfit and the flatliners? The landlady is a lovely person and i enjoy the occasional visit to reflect on what a pub used to be like, before commercialism stepped in.

1 Dec 2004 21:47

The Rodney, Saltash

Here's a pub with alot of potential, most of it has already been filled though, and without improving it beyond what it is, a pub that is not quite sure if it is a seedy local boozer, or a fairly mainstream establishment offering large bookings for various events, the two combine in a slightly uneasy way. Free pool tho Mon - Wed
