Combermere Arms, Wolverhampton

RobCAMRA has some of this wrong.
"Theres also a smoking area out the back which is probably illegal as its got 3 sides and a roof". Nit-picking maybe, but its a roll-out canopy, two walls and a fence. Thus NOT illegal.
When I visited, Gavin was offering Amarillo Gold, Adnam's Explorer, and Danish Dynamite. Good choice of beers on rotation. Music night, with Jo on tambourine livens the place up, and some really friendly regulars. Staff such as Dan and Larissa are cracking This is a quality pub, and RobCAMRA is right on one thing: "Note to any developers/pubco's, LEAVE IT ALONE!" Food is excellent, and I'd happily recommend the chilliburger (Sloppy Joe), and the landlord's black pudding and fried egg sandwich, both awesome. Shame I won't be back for a while. Truly a local pub, par excellence.

Clarendon Hotel, Wolverhampton

Nice pub, and damned good manageress (Della) who knows her beer. Best the beer has been for a while. Shame WDB/Banks/Marstons have lost their way....
So who owns it?? Gisaclue?? Corporate lack of vision, this should be WDB's flagship pub, with some serious investment, in what currently is a jaded, open plan environment, with a long-disused sandwich bar, a real eyesore. Food is good value for the money, and Pedigree drinkers should visit to drink it at its best. Had a very pleasant evening (or two) there.

The Fox, Chetwynd Aston

I wne t to this pub, somewhat sceptical of how good it really is. Well, everything looked good, from the outset, carpark heaving, and I had concerns that the inerior would be also. The frontage belies the enormous interior spaces, well-lit, open fire roaring....
The range of cask ales was good, and the" Shropshire Hop", was good, but surpassed by the truly wonderful Salopian Brewery's "Oracle", with its stunning after-taste of berried fruits (sound a bit like a wine snob?? No chance, I'll not be rinsing this beer down the drain, too good to waste :D)
The menu was impressive, and the Gloucester Old Spot sausages, with mash and onion gravy wasvery filling,
The pub's reputation really is as good as it reads on BITE. Truly, this is the way forward, Well done to Brunning and Price, this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
I'll be recommending this pub to all.

The Bandon Arms, Bridgnorth

Excellent pub, a Marston's house, and the beer was very good. (Oxford Gold)..
Ok, its a Two for One, but the pork and black pudding stack with cider and apple sauce was perfectly cooked and presented, with fresh steamed veg, a real change from frozen rubbish.
The staff were very friendly, and nice to see the manager wearing a tie. I will be going back.

The Woolpack, Stafford

Nice, friendly village pub. To find not one or two but four guest ales was a surprise, but all beautifully kept, and the manager Della, keeps a fine cellar. (Clearly knows her cask) Food was well prepared. Excellent and friendly team working when I visited.

The Fern and Fallow, Cannock

Cracking pub, cask ales always superb. As a live venue on Fridays, be prepared for some very good live music, last Friday's band The Hold Up, were truly excellent, and well-supported. Staff 10/10, and friendly customers.
