Filthy McNasty's II, Twickenham

At least the "drunken" students bother to come to see live music on a regular basis.

I thought the idea of a music venue was that all people, of any age, status, race or style could go there and enjoy music, not be stereotyped by people like you Itcolumbo - do you have some bad feelings for some reason?

Also a music venue should give an "open" forum for all music styles and allow bands starting out a place to play and gain experience, those band you rated as "a poor standard" may one day be a great local act, you never know, but a real music venue will take the risk, because if no where let new bands play, then there would never be any "up and coming" acts.

The staff are normally perfectly polite and happy (well the bar staff) the tech team can be a bit grumpy now and then, but that's what is expected to be perfectly honest.

I think the diversity of the artists we've had through the venue speaks for itself (although I'm not going to write a big list now as it's 4:30am).

The Red Lion, Twickenham

Sounds a bit petty to me!

After all, if there's somewhere new to move to, then move there, don't let something just die because the venue has gone.

EVERYONE should be happy that it has gone somewhere it can evolve and grow.

I'm sure, IF the Red Lion should open again, the new owners will gladly welcome back the Jam and the crowd with it.

But for now, just chill , stop fighting a war over something that is no-one's personal property and remember it's all about the music.

EVERYONE - THIS IS IMPORTANT

We have just been told by Scottyish & Newcastle that they intend to "Renovate" Filthy's.

This means the following:
--The pub will no longer be a music "venue"
--We will be kicked out
--The pub will be turned into a Rugby themed pub, to compete with Lloyds rebranding of the Sorting room as a Rugby themed pub later this year.

I hope other people feel the same way, Filthy's is something a little "different" in Twickenham, it's not a clone pub/trendy bar, it's a friendly, non violent atmosphere and most importantly, the staff really care abouyt what we're doing and many of us have been putting in work for free trying to improve the building.

To try and convince S&N that we should keep the place alive as it is, we have a petition available in the pub to sign

-----WE WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT-----

I have also heard that Scottich and NEwcastle have a slightly "longer" term plan, which basically involves the renovation of the building costing 300,000 but (there is always a but) they don't intend for it to suceed in it's new guise, instead they want it to run itself to the ground and use it as a tax write off, then sell the premises to a property developer (unknown company) who has already looked at purchasing the carpark behind the pub to create a large site for developement of yet more flats and shop front on Twickenham's main streets.

Offer your support in any way you can, we starting turning Filthy's around 6 weeks back, making it a better place to come to, in that time, we've done a lot, but now all this hard work may be for nothing.

There's not been a refit of any sort yet!!!!

We've been working like mad just to get the place sorted out after a string of bad managers.

Now we got John running the show things have been ace!

Things done this month:
PA is now installed and sounding great
Outside is currently being painted
Beer is now actually stocked at the bar
More bar staff taken on

Things we're aiming to do soon:
Build a new stage (the current one is hired)
Redecorate the whole of the inside
Get the aircon working again

Over the last few weeks, we've had live music almost every night, had a lot of people in and had loads of good feedback about how much has happened to improve the place!

If things carry on like this, then maybe there will be some money to invest in more improvements!

I'll keep posting as things happen!

The pub really doesn't need more space, it's actually quite big. The thing is, the space isn't well used - the bar takes up so much space that it makes the whole room seem really small. This is being looked at.

The car park at the back is owned by Richmond council, not the pub, so extending isn't an option, the is a small beer garden, but we couldn't extend into this as it is a fire exit.

This Thursday and Friday there were at least 4 bar staff working, as well as the new Manager Jonny (friendly large bald chap). Early week nights there are normally at least 2 bar staff as there is never many customers in.

We're currently looking at the music format for the venue - we want to keep it as diverse as possible and not fall into the "metal venue" or "blues venue" trap - we want to create a proper music venue, with everything from Blue to Rock to Indie, to Metal (and any style we can put on).

We are currently trying to arrange a regular Sunday night live Blues act(s), a saturday night Rock club (with at least 1 live act) and then live music Wed/Thur/Fri.

I'll keep updating as it happens :)
