Swan House, Beccles

It talks the talk, but fails to walk the walk, in the food department at least. The building is stylish and welcoming, a snug bar and fireside in winter, outside tables in the summer. Massive selection of foreign beers, those that I tried were pretty good if a little on the dear side. the food promises much but was a meanly portioned mediocrely cooked offering; a good chef, a little generosity (5 potatoes for 3 diners? are you taking the mick?) and a little honesty (puddings "homemade"? Hmmmmm, me thinks not) would go a long way to make this passion for good beer and wine and art events what its clearly striving to be.

The Ferry Inn, Reedham

Smashing- good beer, good food. Super pint of well kept Woodfords. Manager is a very friendly guy, to the customers at least, but be less threatening to your staff please! Staff generally work better if not threatened with the sack, andf its not impressive for your patrons to witness staff tellings-off!

The Royal Oak, Poringland

They've clearly worked hard to provide real ales in ambient setting, all good stuff. Only downside is proscriptive and slightly regimented pub owners who can be a little stiff and off-putting.

The White Horse, Chedgrave

Impressed by this pubs food, staff a little on the slow side (in more ways than one) actually think that gives it some character! better than average menu and well priced, much more agreeable than its rival the Kings Head. Close to the staithe and a good place for holidaymakers, lots of events going on and very welcoming. Worth the short stroll down to the watermill while you're here too.(I understand Loddon Mill wellbeing centre host events here sometimes- a pint and a massage- now that is something worth considering!)

Kings Head, Loddon

In a decent enough location and, minus the England flag painted on the outside wall, could be an interesting building. No real ales when I visited and although some bar staff were friendly some were not and the customers are mostly paralytic kids who throw bad pints and even worse abuse- not family friendly, not real ale friendly, food suitable for gorilla clientele only. Avoid.
