Seven Stars, Rugby

This was the last pub we went to on a town crawl and was arguably the best of the day. Excellent beer choice and an easy walk from the station.

13 Apr 2014 19:38

The Victoria Inn, Rugby

Good looking pub on the outside although a little bland inside but the locals welcomed our 16 strong party and the beer was excellent , particularly the Atomic and Deception.

13 Apr 2014 19:34

The Alexandra Arms, Rugby

2 football matches on Al Jazeira TV when we popped in but a good range of beers an we particularly enjoyed the Atomic ales.

13 Apr 2014 19:30

The Merchants Inn, Rugby

Great looking pub inside and seemed a real drinkers pub but we were slightly disappointed in the beer which didn't hit the spot as well as some we tried on our Rugby crawl. Well worth a visit though and may just have been our choices .

13 Apr 2014 19:25

Raglan Arms, Rugby

Very hospitable landlady and an excellent range of beers including a great Wheat Beer. Good pork pie too and well worth the short stroll from the town.

13 Apr 2014 19:20

The Red Lion Hotel, Clovelly

Well worth the walk down to the bottom of Clovelly as it's a decent pub in a great location.
ignoring the ubiquitous Doom Bar we had the Clovelly ale which was decent.

27 Oct 2013 13:48

The Hartland Quay Hotel (Wreckers Bar), Hartland

Amazing setting and well worth the walk or drive down from Hartland.
Beers were Tribute and Dartmoor Legend - both well kept and enjoyable if a little uninspired for the location - and food fairly standard but reasonably priced pub fayre.

27 Oct 2013 13:44

The Hart Inn, Hartland

Friendly, traditional pub with a good feel and a nice pint of Otter (no Skinners) when we visited.Food looked good too - shame it closed at 3 on a Sunday though as we'd have happily drunk more.
I echo the previous comments in that it's a shame they don't stock Forge beer - which we did sample in the Kings Arms however sadly that place was a bit of a shocker.

27 Oct 2013 13:40

The Windsor Castle Inn, Lye

Not surprisingly a great range of well kept Sadlers beers in their brewpub and well worth a visit.
Shame the bar area isn't a bit bigger with more seating as most of the pub does seem to be set aside for diners.

25 Sep 2013 19:46

The Shovel Inn, Lye

Remains a cracking, old fashioned pub with a great range of well kept beers including Holden's Golden Glow and 2 Enville Ales as regulars.
The landlord was friendly and very knowledgable about his beer and rightly recommended the Cavendish Ale from Wellbeck Abbey Brewery which we hadn't come across before but will look out for.

25 Sep 2013 19:39

The Cadgwith Cove Inn, Cadgwith Cove

Very busy and quite foody pub in a charming village which we checked out on a walk from The Lizard.
4 Cornish ales on including Skinners and Otter and pretty good they were too.

14 Sep 2013 21:44

The Blue Anchor, Helston

Much has been written about this place and it's undoubtedly worth a visit being a traditional pub which brews it's own beer and has loads of character and good outside space.
For us near Northerners however the beer didn't quite hit the spot being a little flat and warm for our tastes and the IPA a little sweet.
The Middle though was a nice drink and if served 2 degrees cooler with a creamy head would have been smashing!

14 Sep 2013 21:41

The Welloe Rock Inn / Sand Bar, Praa Sands

More of a bar than a pub as the name suggests and expensive beer at £3.90 a pint but when you're drinking chilled Betty Stoggs on the terrace in the sun, gazing out at the surf and watching the surfers it didn't seem a bad way to spend the afternoon!

14 Sep 2013 21:35

The Ship Inn, Porthleven

Great pub in a top location at the harbour entrance with good sea views from inside and out and a good atmosphere - seems to attract the fishermen and genuine locals but very welcoming.
3/4 ales on including our ale of choice - Porthleven - which is brewed for them by Skinners and is an easy drinking 4.8% IPA.
We also had the best cheese board we've ever had and the food in general looked good and reasonably priced.

14 Sep 2013 20:23

Harbour Inn, Porthleven

Prime location on the harbour front and split into 2 halves,a more foody half and a bar which seemed to attract the younger element.
Sadly like a few StAustell pubs we've visited the beer was pretty average and it's a shame that given they have no guest ales they don't stock their full range - no Proper Job which is by far my favourite of their beers.

14 Sep 2013 20:17

The Atlantic Inn, Porthleven

Well worth the short stroll from the harbour as the sea views are superb and the beer good with 4 ales on inluding a Bays and Betty Stoggs plus 2 others from smaller breweries when we visited which is rare to see in a Cornish pub.
Food looked decent and reasonably priced too.

14 Sep 2013 20:13

Kings Head, Bridgnorth

Sadly only had time for a couple before driving home but this was yet another great pub in the town with an excellent range of beers in the two bars with the regular Hobsons and Wye Valley plus guests including a Sarah Hughes and Kelham Island when we there, suggesting the landlord knows his beers!
Food looked good too.

25 Aug 2013 20:43

The Golden Lion Inn, Bridgnorth

We stayed for a night during the music festival and although we didn't drink here there were 4 ales on , including Town Crier.
Seemed a decent pub but has some tough competition in the town.

25 Aug 2013 20:38

The White Lion, Bridgnorth

Nice looking, busy pub with a good feel to it.
2 of their own ales on tap,one excellent, the other a little bland but that was compared to Salopian Lemon Dream which my partner rated her beer of the weekend.
Definitely worth a visit.

25 Aug 2013 20:35

The Black Horse, Bridgnorth

Excellent pub with probably the best beer I've drank for some time so great credit to the landlord.6 beers on including Town Crier,Bathams and Golden Glow.
Nice outside seating area with accomodation and Sky sports too.

25 Aug 2013 20:21

The Black Boy Inn, Bridgnorth

Nicely located pub on the walk down from Hightown to Lowtown, with an outside patio with views of the river.Seems a decent pub with 3 ales on inluding Wye Valley and Reverend James although has some tough competion in the town.

25 Aug 2013 19:54

The Cat Inn, Enville

Nice looking, old fashioned pub which is owned by Enville Ales with 4 of their beers on and 2 guests when we visited. All sampled were excellent and from what we saw of the food it was reasonably priced with good portions.
Understandably it's won a few awards from the local CAMRA and the new licencees seem to be doing a top job.

14 Aug 2013 19:30

The Swan With Two Nicks, Worcester

Large pub split into different area with the main pub at the front presumably being the original building and this has a nice feel to it with the 4 ales on tap being only £1.85 a pint, apparently since January.
The 2 we tried were both well kept and the barman friendly and knowledable.
Definitely a pub we will include on future visits to Worcester and compared well to the King Charles next door at £3.10 a pint for not particularly well kept Sadlers.

13 Aug 2013 11:06

The Prince of Wales, Ledbury

Sadly only had time for a quick visit as we were on a coach trip but seemed an excellent pub in a really nice location.
I had a great pint of Otter, with Hobsons also on tap,and they also stock a good range of Belgian beers with live music on a Sunday afternoon.
Well worth a visit.

4 Aug 2013 13:13

The Barrels, Hereford

Cracking pub which was absolutely heaving on a Saturday afternoon with a good mix of ages and clientele.
The full range of Wye Valley beers - all sampled were excellent - and probably the best pub in Hereford.

4 Aug 2013 13:05

The Victory, Hereford

Nice looking pub inside and the home of Hereford Brewery but sadly the beers weren't really to my taste and all 3 we tried were a little samey with the least Golden ale I've ever see.
Worth a try but pales by comparison with The Barrels down the road.

4 Aug 2013 12:58

The Bell, Pensax

A great pub which seems to deserve all the acolades it get's and is well worth taking time to visit.
24 of us popped in for an hour on a recent Camra trip and the staff did a great job in feeding and watering us.
The food was good with an excellent view from the dining room and beer garden and more importantly the beer was very good with a varied selection of 6 ales and several ciders.
We tried the Dark Star Hophead - a great beer - and all the others seemed to go down well too.

4 Aug 2013 12:54

Kings Arms, Bromyard

Popped in for one at 11am on a recent pub crawl and had a very good pint of Hobsons bitter. Also on was Banks's Sunbeam.
Would visit again if in town.

4 Aug 2013 12:49

The Paul Pry, Worcester

Now re-opened by the owners of The Plough and has a great interior similar to some of the old Birmingham pubs.Decent range of beers but the 2 we tried were fair at best and it may be they're still getting used to the cellar as they were a fair way off The Plough standard - although that is probably the best pub in Worcester.

21 Jun 2013 19:38

The Cardinals Hat, Worcester

Under new ownership and seems to have had a subtle and effective refurb. The Austrian beers have gone, which for me is no bad thing, and there were 3 beers on tap when we visited which were well sourced and in good condition.

21 Jun 2013 19:33

The Fruiterers Arms, Uphampton

Feels like you're stepping back in time - and not just because of the prices at at around £2.30 a pint - and is in an incredibly peaceful spot just outside Ombersley.
Cannon Royall brew their beers on site and there were 4 on tap on our visit including the excellent Arrowhead Extra.

21 Jun 2013 19:30

Ship Inn, Portloe

Only had time for one drink as we were walking and driving but a good pint of Tribute and a nice location with a good beer garden.

26 May 2013 20:17

The Blue Peter, Polperro

One of my favourite pubs anywhere and after walking from Polruan the first two beers barely touched the sides.
Very well kept and selected local ales, friendly and knowledgeable bar staff and an excellent location.

26 May 2013 20:14

The Rashleigh Inn, Polkerris

Great location on a main walking trail from Fowey. We were however dismayed to find a pub advertising Skinners running out on a Sunday afternoon with the only alternative ales being not particularly Cornish Timothy Taylor and Youngs.
On enquiring we were told it would be Friday before the next Betty Stoggs was on and settled so we did return and the beer was pretty good with a nice Bays on too.
More consistency and better bar management required though.

26 May 2013 20:11

The Old Ferry Inn, Bodinnick

Right by the Boddinick ferry and at the end of the Hall Walk from Polruan so nicely situated and sitting on the patio in the afternoon and evening sunshine the view was perfect.
Excellent pint if Sharp's Cornish Coaster too which at only 3.7% packs loads of flavour.

26 May 2013 20:05

King of Prussia, Fowey

Seems more of a foody pub but well kept St Austell beers and we ate here twice in the week and were pretty impressed with the quality and the price.
Good views over to Polruan too.

26 May 2013 20:00

The Galleon Inn, Fowey

Excellent pub in a great location on the river. Good reasonably priced food, live music most Friday nights and the best selection of ale in the town at only £3 a pint, which for Fowey felt like a bargain.

26 May 2013 19:57

The Dodford Inn, Dodford

We thought we'd give The Dodford another chance after a few months for the new owner's to settle in and it was definitely worth it as the beer was much improved with 4 decent ales.
It was no busier than it used to be despite the 50k refurb but we will return.

12 Jan 2013 18:37

New Inn, Bournheath

The recent refurbishment looks great and the bar with the real fire is very inviting but sadly for the 2nd consecutive week the Enville Ale was off with the young barman having trouble with the pumps.
It doesn't matter how much you spend on a pub if you don't get the beer right then you will rightly loose custom and after 2 drinks we left to try The Dodford.
From chatting to regulars there it appears the New Inns may be changing hands again and the excellent cellarman who was there in the summer has also gone.

12 Jan 2013 18:34

Plough, Worcester

A real drinkers pub which always has on an excellent range of beers including Ludlow Gold and Malvern Hills Black Pear on our last visit which was a very pleasant news years eve afternoon. We also sampled a great German wheat beer.
The pub is warm and inviting and there's a good view of the cathedral from the patio. They also have a wide range of whiskey.
Probably the best pub in Worcester.

9 Jan 2013 20:10

The Golden Cross Hotel, Bromsgrove

Seems to be improving and I've had a couple of pleasant evenings there recently on Steak Tuesday.
I'd probably still avoid Saturday afternoons when it's full of chavs popping in for a few pints of Stella on their way back from the big shop in Asda whilst their unattended kids run around screaming.
In general though the staff are pleasant and courteous and the beer pretty good for a Weatherspoons.10 international beers on when we last visited and all we tried were fine.
And at 1.99 per pint Matt that's even cheaper than the Mcewans in the Hall Green Con Club.

4 Nov 2012 16:29

The Cross Inn, Finstall

A real community pub which seems to be going from strength to strength.Always a welcoming atmosphere and very good to see the Timothy Taylor Landlord back on.
We're already looking forward to Xmas lunchtime in The Cross !

4 Nov 2012 16:18

Hope and Anchor, Goodwick

We really wanted to like this pub after sampling the state of the competion in Goodwick and Fishguard and the charming landlady definitely merits the support of the locals as she's trying hard and at least had one regular cask ale on although it wasn't to our taste. The Thatchers Gold however was excellent.
We didn't try the food although the menu looked OK and there is a seperate restaurant downstairs with a seaview.

28 Oct 2012 19:22

Rose and Crown, Goodwick

A Marston's pub that's on the market for sale and presumably had temporary landords in to keep it ticking over until it's sold.
Possibly the saddest pub I've ever beer in and even the beer,a flat Pedigree, didn't want to come out of the pump.
Apparently this is the destination of choice for Goodwick's youth although they must have been at home watching the end of Strictly with their parents as we were the only customers.

28 Oct 2012 19:16

The Royal Oak, Fishguard

The only pub left in Fishguard main square so we were fairly hopeful this Brains pub would be decent having beaten off the competion.
Sadly, althought the 3 beers on offer were reasonably kept and priced, the pub had definitely seen better days and even at 8pm on a Saturday night it was empty with no atmosphere.
We tried it once more but then even the promise of the regular Tuesday Folk night couldn't draw us back for a 3rd visit.

28 Oct 2012 19:11

Fishguard Arms, Fishguard

Small pub which looked attractive from the outside although there were no visible handpumps so I'm not sure where the flat Bass ,which was the only beer on offer, came from.
The locals were welcoming enough, thanks to my knowledge of Henry Cecil, and the young Dylan Thomas wannabee at the bar very entertaining.
Beerwise though it was pretty shocking and not a patch on The Ship in Low Town which isn't on BITE but was bar far the best pub in Fishguard with a nice atmosphere and 2 decent cask ales.

28 Oct 2012 19:05

The Llwyngwair Arms, Newport

Closed.

28 Oct 2012 18:51

The Royal Oak, Newport

It was good to find a pub doing food at 4.30 on a midweek afternoon and the food was decent although a little expensive for fairly basic fair.
What was disappointing was to find that the only ale was,yet again,a flat pint of Doom Bar! By now we were starting to dispair.

28 Oct 2012 18:50

The Castle Hotel, Newport

Undoubtedly our pub of the week in Pembrokeshire and sadly we didn't discover it until Friday night.
The bar was busy with around 5 cask ales, including an excellent Felinfoel beer and Butty bach.
We also decided to try the attached restaurant which was an excellent experience with reasonably priced, locally sourced and delicious food.

28 Oct 2012 18:46

The Hop Pole Inn, Droitwich

Cracking pub with a good range of Wye Valley beers including their beer of the month, the Hop 101,which went down very well with my good woman,as did the Enville Ginger.
I was very happy to find an excellent MHB Black Pear which is apparently a regular.
Definitely worth a visit although no McEwans Matt.

6 Oct 2012 21:36

The Old Cock Inn, Droitwich

Nice looking pub with a good feel to it but a Marstons pub that didn't sell Banks's was a tad strange.
Decent pint of Jennings though and with a 10% CAMRA discount the beer was pretty reasonable.

6 Oct 2012 21:25

The Sidings, Castletown

Just a short walk from town and next to the station for the steam railway.
Superb selection of around 10 ales on offer, local and national, and unlike some other pubs with high beer turnover they also seemed to have got the quality as well as quantity right as all the beers we tried were cool and well kept.
Possibly my pub of the week.

19 Sep 2012 19:40

The Falcons Nest Hotel, Port Erin

Big hotel in an excellent setting with 2 bars and a great conservatory to sit and watch the sun go down in.Looked very popular with diners.
Decent ales although a little warmer than ideal and just a shame they had no outside seating.

19 Sep 2012 19:34

The Bay, Port Erin

Full range of Bushys beers plus guests in an excellent setting and with free papers, classic rock on the radio and a friendly barman providing samples of anything we fancied and a seaview I thought I'd found beer nirvana on my first visit.
Sadly the next night it was full of yappy students watching an England game so we only stayed for one!

19 Sep 2012 19:30

The Queens Hotel, Douglas

Only had time for one but this seemed a really good pub with loads of outside seating on the promenade and the beer we had was a welcome guest in Salopian Hop Twister.

19 Sep 2012 19:26

The Trafalgar Hotel, Ramsey

Good looking pub in an excellent harbour front location.
Also possibly my beer of the week in a cool, creamy Okells IPA.
Sadly I only managed 3 pints before being whisked off for the last tram to Douglas.

19 Sep 2012 19:24

The Queens Hotel, Laxey

Looks a real bikers pub but has a good feel and an excellent selection of Bushys and guest beers.
The manx bitter was superb and at 3.40 for a pint and a half an absolute bargain.

19 Sep 2012 19:21

The Mines Tavern, Laxey

From the outside the most inviting pub in Laxey with good outside seating however inside it was a tad disappointing with warm beer and daytime TV playing rather loudly.
May just have caught it at a bad time though.

19 Sep 2012 19:18

The Bridge Inn, Laxey

Looked a real locals pub however we were made to feel very welcome and the beer was excellent.

19 Sep 2012 19:16

The Shore Hotel, Laxey

Surprisingly not on the shore but to be fair it is on the banks of the Laxey River with good outside seating and great views up the valley.
Their own beer,Bosun's Bitter,is brewed on site and it's a really good malty pint which is only available in a couple of other places on the island.
Also have a good selection of Cavendish memorabilia.
Well worth a visit.

19 Sep 2012 19:14

The Firefly, Worcester

Worcester CAMRA pub of the year and you can see why as the owner's definitely trying very hard to create something a bit different.Interesting decor and the pub had quite an American feel with the music and a selection of Rogue ales which we'd previously sampled in Portland,Oregon on keg and in bottle.
3 cask ales on when we visited however they were all light hoppy beers and the fact they had a mini beer festival on with Skinners and Salopian gave us some much needed variety.
Good pub though and one I'd definitely try again.

26 Aug 2012 19:34

The Dragon Inn, Worcester

Nice, welcoming pub with friendly regulars and 6 cask ales on just a short walk from Foregate Street.
Beers we tried were well kept and a good variety.
Well worth a visit.

26 Aug 2012 19:23

New Inn, Bournheath

The new owners certainly seem to have improved the beer judging by our visit last Saturday after a disappointing trip to the new Dodford.
Beers were Banks's and an excellent and very welcome Enville Ale.
Comfortable and inviting pub, both inside and out,and one I'll definitely be seeing a lot more of.

6 Aug 2012 19:19

Charles Cotton Hotel, Hartington

Slightly strange feel to the place but a decent beer selection, including some local ales.
Worth checking out the local YHA if you're in Hartington though as it's at Hartington Hall and sells the local ale brewed on site.

14 Jul 2012 17:18

The Olde Ship Hotel, Seahouses

What was already a very good pub has improved even further since my last visit due to the addition of several very well kept local guest ales including an excellent White Hot.
Regular beers include the not to be missed Farne Island Gold.
This pub is one of my national favourites and having just spent a changeable week in Northumberland we managed to get in 3 visits which included an enjoyably busy Saturday evening and 2 wet afternoons when the pub was quieter but still with an excellent and welcoming atmosphere.
Great decor and views of the Farne's from the garden make this a pub not to be missed.

14 Jul 2012 17:15

The Hop Pole Inn, Bromsgrove

Spent a very enjoyable jubilee bank holiday afternoon here with an excellent cider and music festival.
Probably the best pub in Bromsgrove now with decent beer and a nice beer garden.
The landlords doing a top job and the only criticism was that the in house beer the OBJ was a little bland.

5 Jun 2012 17:06

Rock Inn Bar and Bistro, Rock

Looks a tad pretentious at first glance but great location and sitting on the balcony with stunning views of the estuary drinking the best pint of Tribute I had all week was a pretty good experience!
Wortha visit and right by the ferry too.

26 May 2012 20:48

The Shipwrights, Padstow

St Austell owned but an excellent Proper Job and good location on the quay with excellent views upatairs too.
Decent pub.

26 May 2012 20:46

The London Inn, Padstow

Another pub with St Austell only but the full range and seemed pretty well kept.
Worth a visit and the food was decent too but keep going to the Golden Lion for more beer variety.

26 May 2012 20:45

The Golden Lion Inn, Padstow

An oasis for those looking for something to drink other than St Austell in Padstow.
Betty Stoggs and a beer from the Tintagel brewery, both good quality, meant many repeat visits in our week there.

26 May 2012 20:42

The Queens, Stoke Pound

Again under new ownership and hopefully this one will work out as it's potentially a good pub in a great location.
Apparently there's a grand re-opening due shortly and more of the pub will be set up for drinking rather than the more restauranty feel it currently has which will definitely be welcome.
First impressions were good with decent food and a very good pint of Enville Ale.
Sam the barman/barmanager apparently learnt his craft with Richard at The Dodford so there's hope there.

5 Feb 2012 12:49

The Bartons Arms, Aston

Great looking pub with delicious and reasonably priced Thai food.Sadly and surprisingly the beer was a bit of let down with 4 very samey Oakham ales which were a little warm and not at their best.Worth a visit but a little more variety in the beer would be welcome.

14 Nov 2011 21:49

Ship Inn, Fowey

Good pub and the most characterful of the town pubs.
Normal range of St Austell beers with decent Proper Job.

26 Oct 2011 19:11

The Old Ferry Inn, Bodinnick

Good pub with a nice view of the estuary from the dining room and outside seating.
Decent Sharps beers but the local still cider was excellent and shouldn't be missed.
Right by the Boddinick ferry and something to look forward to on the walk from Polruan.

26 Oct 2011 19:08

Safe Harbour Inn, Fowey

Normal St Austell beers and main area at the front of the pub taken up by a pool table but seems a decent locals pub.

26 Oct 2011 19:04

King of Prussia, Fowey

St Austell Beers only but the best Proper Job in town.
Nice location but no outside seating and limited seating inside with a pool table taking up a fair chunk of space.
Didn't eat but food looked decent.

26 Oct 2011 19:02

The Galleon Inn, Fowey

Great location on the estuary with good outside seating.Agree with the comments about the decor at first inspection but good choice of beers, including Skinners Green Hop,when we visited and surprisingly good and excellent value food.Sharps Cornish Coaster also a decent pint and refreshing change from Doom bar.
Seems a good community pub too judging by the number of people in on a charity bingo night.

26 Oct 2011 18:58

The Thatch, Croyde

Really good range of well kept St Austell ales and although really busy on a Saturday evening service was good and we still got a table.
Not surprisingly loads of surf dudes but a decent age mix and a good atmosphere.
Just a shame there's no sea view!

15 Sep 2011 20:26

Red Barn, Woolacombe

Not a traditional looking pub and without reading the reviews on here we would have walked on by.That would have been a big mistake as the Red Barn had an excellent selection of well kept ales,Thatches pear cider and a good German pilsner.
Very clean, excellent location and views and although we didn't eat the food looked good.
We returned later in the week and loved watching the rain roll in across Woolacombe Bay.
Recommended.

15 Sep 2011 20:23

The Rashleigh Inn, Polkerris

Great pub we came across on a walk from Fowey.Stunning location, excellent Skinners and St Austell beers and very good food.Virtually faultless and would be smashing on a warm summers night.

1 Jun 2011 20:14

The Blue Peter, Polperro

Spent 2 very enjoyable afternoons in here on a recent holiday after strolling from Looe.Nice atmosphere, good bar staff and excellent and changing beers, with no Doom Bar in sight.

1 Jun 2011 20:11

The Globe, East Looe

On the way out of town but an easy stroll and surprisingly the only pub in East Looe with a view.Decent beer and worth a visit.

1 Jun 2011 20:09

The Salutation Inn, East Looe

Great looking pub with a decent atmosphere but sadly all 3 pumps were dispensing Doom Bar and the regulars seated round the bar made it hard to get served.
Another beer or two would have made it a more regular haunt on our week down there.

1 Jun 2011 20:07

The Bullers Arms, East Looe

Definitely needs a bit of a refurb but good music, friendly bar staff and decent beer.

1 Jun 2011 20:05

The Dodford Inn, Dodford

Excellent pub in a great location which is warm and inviting in the winter and a great place to sit and chill outside in the summer. The service is always welcoming and the quality of the beer is superb with 4 cask ales always on.
Fingers crossed that Chris the barman manages to persuade Richard to stock Holdens Golden Glow on a regular basis.

11 Jan 2011 19:20

The Pack Horse Inn, New Mills

Stayed here last Saturday night whilst visiting relatives in the area and will definitely return.Very welcoming staff, great location, clean and spacious bedroom and top full English.
And most importantly for this sight 3 very well kept cask ales.

16 Dec 2010 21:04

The Shovel Inn, Lye

Great pub with an excellent range of beer normally including a superb Holden's Golden Glow and a couple of Enville ales.
Not as busy as the nearby Windsor Castle and has a more old fashioned Black Country feel to it.
Unmissable if you're in the area and I wish it was my local.

25 Nov 2010 19:54

Shrubbery Cottage, Stourbridge

Having last visited The Shrub about 20 years ago I was really looking forward to seeing it again on a recent visit to Oldswinford, especially when I read it was a Holden's pub.
Unfortunately the refurbishment has left is strangely soulless and although they do sell 3 Holden's beers the Golden Glow, normally one of my faves, was far from the best I've tried.

25 Nov 2010 19:45

The Crown, Old Swinford

Excellent local pub with good atmosphere, friendly staff and 3 or 4 good cask ales on.

25 Nov 2010 19:40

The Cross Inn, Finstall

Always a welcoming atmosphere and an excellent pint of Landlord and Enville White normally on along with Tardebigge cider.
The only drawback is having to occasionally elbow your way through the regulars who don't like to leave the safety of the bar.

11 Nov 2010 20:15

The Ladybird Inn, Aston Fields

It's hard to be critical about a local pub that sells Bathams but The Ladybird does lack the atmosphere it once had and the female bar staff do need to learn how to smile occasionally.
Also sells Wye Valley HPA and a good pint of Thatchers Gold but the third guest beer now always seems to be Birds which is very hit and miss.

11 Nov 2010 20:03

The Queens, Stoke Pound

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime after seeing an add in Pint Taken but sadly paid 4.90 for a pint and a half of very vinegary and not at all Mellow Yellow. One sip was enough and after pointing out to the barmaid the beer was off she did change it immediately for a fresh pint of half decent Wye Valley IPA.
Surely though the bar manager should try his beer before service;we arrived at 1.30 ish so many poor punters would already have sampled it that day and I can't believe I was the first to complain.

The Wyche Inn, Malvern

Well worth a detour whilst your walking over the hills.
Very quiet on the afternoon we visited but 3 very well kept ales and the best MHB Black Pear in Malvern.
