The William IV, Leyton

This place came recommended for its range of ales that run out by 8pm on a Saturday night! The evening started badly with only two bar satff on for the Arsenal v Sp.urs fixture. They also couldn't manage bar snacks for a large part of the evning. Overall, a pitiful experience.

The Mansion House, Kennington

Really want to like this pub but can't work out if its a pub, Thai Restaurant or wine bar. Judging by the lack of trade compared to the pub next door I'm not the only confused drinker. If you like Oakham ales you will love this but most people seem to drink lager or wine, so having a large number of identically tasting ales (all very light and hoppy) seems to offer a poor range. why can't some real ale pubs serve a normal bitter or session ale?

The Ship, Lambeth

This is a massive improvement on the disaster it replaced. It has an excellent range of real ale that is well kept and rattles up an excellent, good value Sunday roast. It can get crowded as is already popular but much needed in this part of Kennington. If you can ignore the chattering family groups of the Middle class SE11 intelligentsia that pollute sections of this establishment then this is well worth a visit.

The Dove Inn, Hammersmith

Came back here for the first time in years and was pleased that it was a still a pub full of character but less pleased that its gone for the tourist trade and is less of a pub and much more of an over priced gastro bore establishment. It was difficult to find anywhere to sit and wasn't helped by allowing people to reserve seats for groups of people who don't turn up while the rest of us stand and stare at a load of empty seats. Was amused to see on this topic that dozens of people came and immediately left as there was nowhere for them to seat so the pub is losing a shed load of trade and money to reserve for what turned out to be a group of dizzy tarts who will go home after half a glass of shit white wine.

The Hare and Hounds, Isleworth

Arrived at about 5pm to find that half the pub was empty, but reserved from 4.30. These people hadn't arrived when we left just before 6!
Staff were a bunch of kids who were fairly clueless and had to be coaxed to serve. The beer was appalling. Honeydew was cold lager by the time they had finished with it, the other bitter was also too cold to appreciate , and the remaining 2 pumps were both dedicated to London Pride, which we couldn't face. Can't keep beer for toffee, but do serve meals to kids in high chairs and pints of freezing fizz to their dads, if you like that sort of thing and have reserved a table ahead. Avoid.

The Mansion House, Kennington

Pub re-opened today under the same name. Owned and run by Oakham's brewery. Didn't eat here but they had ten real ales on offer and it looks like it will be a real improvement to drinking in Kennington. Very handy for Kennington tube and friendly bar staff.

The Jolly Gardeners, Vauxhall

Will try to be positive about this place but will struggle!
If you like loud German football blasted at you at a horrific unaceptable decibel level and some decent German beer, then fair enough, this is a good place. Came here thinking it would be original but was severly disappointed. The bar staff are surly and faintly hopeless- the bar maid I spoke to cocked up my order for food and then my order for drink. I was given a desert instead of a main course which on reflection might have improved the over priced excuse for schnitzel I was served. The ambience of this warehouse is dreadful- a German pub with no Germans- but a strange assortment of drunk Brits wearing Bayern Munich shirts. Will need to visit the ENT unit of my local hospital to cure the ear bleed of German commentary- I would avoid.

The Alexandra, Clapham

Popped in, hoping for a few pints on a Friday evening. No bitter on at all with no explanation given and was given the impression that this was a regular state of affairs by an unhelpful and surly bar maid. Shame as this used to be a good pub so won't be rushing back here agin in a while.

The Old Fire House, Exeter

Good range of real ale and cider. its really going for the dimly lit, atmospheric feel with large groups of loud students. Went on a Tuesday night and it was very busy.

The Well House, Exeter

Come here for the real ale but forget about the food.Meals are overpriced and not very good. They struggled to cook half decent chips!

The Fat Pig, Exeter

Decent real ale and food. Food is gastro-pub style, pricey for a pub but good quality. Atmosphere good, with a real fire and very friendly service.

The Dog House, Kennington

A great boozer. Decent food, especially Sunday roasts. Real ale is good, plentiful outside seating with efficient and friendly staff.

Roadtrip Bar and Deli, Old Street

Absolutely hideous!

Firstly it doesn't sell bitter! Secondly, while ordering, there was a cockroach crawling on the bar and to top it off a mouse ran over my foot. It would be hilarious if it didn't serve food!

I mentioned to the bar maid that rentokill might be needed. She splatted the roach and came out a few minutes later with a tenner for hush money!

When we got home my wife realised her trousers were covered in grease marks from the seating outside. We won't be going back!
