The Drapers Arms, Barnsbury

Beer selection good on our visit and tasted even better.

However, the small lad fancied food and in the main the mains were outside the budget, finally settled on the steak and oyster pie only to find it was steak and mushroom, not beef and bottomfeeder as hoped. ~Perhaps the lack of sealife under the pastry crust explained the lack of chips, it did seem a tad mean not to include even one triple fried chip in the headline price but that seems to be the way of the world. Didn't alter the fact the pie was good though

The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak

Excellent extensive selection of well-kept ales, appreciative and friendly punters, and thus an unsurprisingly busy venue with seating at something of a premium. An early start is recommended. Only nit-picking quibble would be that the turnover of barrels is such it's hard to stick to a single beer in a session - a pretty churlish quibble, admittedly! And the lad got extensive, it was the smell of the pies that did it.

The Troubadour, West Brompton

Can only echo the last comment of the previous posting, as the place filled up last night we were commanded to move table - if we'd been asked instead of bullied we would have doubtless obliged, but the manner left much to be desired so we departed, never to return. The small lad has principles.

The Sun, Richmond

Having ducked in here yesterday on finding the Triple Crown closed i'm afraid I have to echo the negative comments about the staff, pointless to elaborate but suffice to say the small lad was so disgusted he left without finishing his Disco - their behaviour was that bad..

The Greyhound, Kew Green

Doom Bar, Pride on tap, the usual suspects basically.

Lots of parents and toddlers, which is fine if both elements behave. Gastro type food fayre, you could stick a mast in the prawn crackers and sail off down the river, better yet stick the parents and toddlers on the crackers, unfurl the mast and give 'em a push and a wave goodbye.

My small lad behaved though, just for once.

O'Riordans, Brentford

Many years since last visited and of course totally changed in that time, however it remains a pleasant enough place and in a fine location. Unable to comment on the ales as on soft drinks but fellow-drinkers were amiable enough. Not sure about the small lad, much scratching under the polyester but that may have had something to do with the football on Sky.

A nice alternative to the Strand-on-the-Green hostelries.

Blubeckers at Gomshall Mill, Gomshall

Unlike other local houses this was happily open all day, life would not have been worth living after a two-mile trek in a biblical deluge if the doors had been locked and the lights out. Although mainly an eating establishment the staff were relaxed enough to allow drinking in the restaurant section (Dorking ale) and when the hunger finally took hold the food was of good quality. The small lad was very impressed with the mill feature, but had to be restrained from attempting to surf from one side to the other like a human pooh stick; that's the Surrey Hills, it's easy to become light-headed..

The Volunteer, Sutton Abinger

Visited Tuesday after a brisk walk, friendly owner and a good pint of Badger, only downside is the pub closes 3pm and if you intend this as a final destination do ensure you know the relevant bus times, the last thing you need as a small lad with little legs is a lengthy walk to the next hostelry with three pints swilling about inside you

The Royal Oak, Vauxhall

As others observe this is a no-frills local, nicely-kept Martsons EPA, and a welcome antidote to the chrome-seated establishments by the river a few hundred yards away. Has the added benefit of a quality jukebox positioned at a height where even a small lad can enjoy the menu of Irish and country hits on offer.

Leopold Tavern, Southsea

good array of well-kept ales, excellent saturday luchtime meat raffle, and a convivial atmosphere - admittedly i was in the most elevated of company, irrespective the Leopold was a quality experience.

The Royal Oak, Brockham

Well-kept Harveys, seating scarce as small public bar area largely given over to darts board, food served in separate space. As mentioned previously, good location for watching the action on the village green.

A gripe - the gents toilet could do with a 'mind your head' sign at the entrance. I hit it 3 times, which i'm sure is not a record......

Gloucester Arms, Knightsbridge

Much-improved following refurbishment, spacious with plenty of seating.Decent guinness, and efficient and attentive bar staff. Can get busy when football is on the big screen. Busy carpet.

My mate Marc says it's cheap and a good session boozer - he's wise, and what he says is good enough for me.

The Builders Arms, Kensington

Very much a bar than a pub, attracting up-themselves media types and the cirencester set, prices set accordingly. Limited seating space often taken up by bar staff on breaks, upstairs often closed for private parties.
My friend enjoys their potato wedges, still that's not a reason to go there, and nor is she

The Holman Clavel Inn, Culmhead

Fantastic pub, sadly located in the middle of nowehere, upside being there's a campsite just down the road if you can find your way there after xyz pints of Butcombe. Everything a pub should be, especially after pint z.
