The Carpenters Arms, Limpsfield Chart

Visited this pub by chance on Sunday without reading the reviews. Was last here about 5 years ago and it was a bit run down then.
So very impressed with its transformation and that it had a full compliment of Westerham beers.
Depressingly I was driving and couldn't sample the ales but my mate thought the Summer Perle was top notch.
Food was very good with a good selection for a Sunday menu.
I shall hope to be back soon and take advantage of the 3 x thirds of pint samples for £3.45.

The Harrow Inn, Knockholt

Visited this pub on past comments and wished otherwise.
Was kept waiting by the Barman/Landlord. A simple "I'll be with you shortly" would have done the trick, but despite coming and going from the bar, he didn't even look at me.
It wouldn't have been so bad but the Spitfire was definately tired and past its best. I didn't stop for a 2nd pint.

The Kingfisher, Colyton

This could be a very nice pub. It was fairly busy with friendly locals. They do now allow dogs, so they have had a change of policy. (see a previous comment) The beer was perfectly acceptable.
However the Landlady chose to serve her regulars before me although I was obviously at the bar first. I It doesn't fare well. I certainly wont bother again.

The Sandrock Hotel, Shirley

Basically a food pub. The food is good but the beer is is very poor. Just the one cask ale, Landlord, which was passed its prime and served at room temperature.
I wont rush back.

The Bo-Peep, Chelsfield

Popped in at lunch time today and enjoyed 2 pints of Summer Perle (Westerham brewery). Beer was spot on. Excellant condition.
Very pleasant pub.

The Harp, Covent Garden

Visited this pub for the 1st time today for a lunchtime session. 10 ales on tap, spoilt for choice. Pleased to see Sambrooks beers on. The three beers I had where all in good form, especially the Wandle Ale.
Friendly staff with a warm greeting despite being busy. The bar area is a tad small, but there is an upstairs seating area as well if you want a quiet read.
I didn't have one of the sausage sandwiches as I had already eaten but shall try them next time.
And I shall definately pop in again on my next visit up to London.

The Hand In Hand, Wimbledon Common

Visited this pub for the first time yesterday and it was better than expected. As well as Youngs beers, which I enjoy anyway, a fine selction of other beers including Sambrooks, which were all in good form.
In a fairly quiet location, it has a pleasant village feel to it, Very knowledgable and helpful staff added to the ambiance.
Also met the Guvnor, Andrew, who chatted to us. Very passionate about his beer.
Excellent Pub.

The Hope, Carshalton

1st trip to this pub. Why have I never been before?

Pleasant ambience and a friendly barman. Most importantly, 7 beers on pumps, including a Mild and a Porter; Kissingate Black Cherry Mild and South Downs Honey Porter. Both excellant.

If you're in the area, do visit.

The Lord Nelson, Southwark

I popped into this pub on the recent recommendations. There was no Real Ale on. The bar man explained that the one beer that they had on hand pump, had run out earlier in the day.
I didn't stop.

The Antelope, Belgravia

Popped into this pub after visiting the Fox and Hounds. Pleasant enough pub, beer was good. I shall visit again but the Fox and Hounds is more inviting.

The Fox and Hounds, Belgravia

Visited this pub on the merits of the recent comments and very pleased I did so.
Delightful little pub. Good beer, friendly efficient service, pleasant ambiance.

Highly recommend.

The Queens Head, Icklesham

Visited on a Saturday evening. Lovely country pub. Beer and food excellent, good selection of both and reasonable prices. Enjoyed a few glasses of Hophead (Dark Star). Very Book early if you wish to eat as it gets very busy. Although we enjoyed the Robin Hood down the road, this pub has the edge.

The Robin Hood, Icklesham

We visited this pub on Friday evening. As we got there, the place was full of families and kids. Despite our immiediate reservations about the pub, it turned out to be a great place to visit. The beer was top notch, we had a couple of bottles of Rjoca at a very reasonable price and enjoyed great pub food. To top it all the service was excellent. Would definately go back next time I'm in that neck of the woods.

The Black Lion, Appledore

Enjoyed a pleasant visit here at the weekend with a small group of friends. We all enjoyed a well cooked lunch and a very pleasant few glasses of Goachers. I do like to see a pub serving beer brewed in the county. They also had Larkins Traditional Ale and Harveys Sussex bitter on tap. Ok, the Harveys was from just across the border in East Sussex, but local enough. A very extensive menu especially if you like fish. It was very busy but the service was good.

The Ypres Castle Inn, Rye

Haven't been in this pub for years and decided on a visit with a bunch of guys on a weekend away. Always enjoyed a climb up the cobbled streets to visit it. Lovely location near the church and the tower/castle.
We had a very nice fish lunch and enjoyed a few pints of Landlord, which was in very good condition.
Shame the actual landlord wasn't in such fine condition. Quite a miserable ***. (See also previous reviews). I hadn't done my homework and looked at the reviews myself before our visit. But it didn't put us off our lunchtime session, although I can well understand how some people would be detered a 2nd visit. The barmaid was fortunately pleasant.
Would I go again? Yes, with the hope of new management.

The Bo-Peep, Chelsfield

First visit to this pub in a peaceful location, yet so close to the motorway and busy roads. Good looking pub from the outside and inside. Nice atmosphere inside.
Had a pint or two of the Harveys Sussex Bitter, in very good condition. (one of my favourite beers anyway) We didn't eat, but will definately return to sample the fare.

The Red Lion, Snargate

Again a welcome visit to The Red Lion, one of my favourite pubs. Had gone out for a ride to avoid the Royal Wedding on TV and met by plenty of likewise guys. Good conversation and good beer. Goachers mild excellent as usual as was the Brewers Gold.

The Red Lion, Snargate

Only manage to get to this pub once or twice a year, but always thoroughly enjoy my visits. This week was no exception. It entails a train journey to Ashford and a bike ride down, which only whets my thirst all the more.

Beer always good, with a fine selection generally from local brewers, all on gravity. Also a Cider or two on tap too.

Doris, who runs the pub with her daughter, is a great character. Had a chat with her about her Land Army days. Very friendly pub.

Apart from crisps and pickled eggs, there's no food, but they're happy for you to bring your own to eat in the garden.

Already planning my next visit down (with my packed lunch).

The Snowdrop, Lewes

A bit off the beaten track but well worth the visit.

Excellant beer and food. Tried and enjoyed the Ox Cheek which was very tasty with a few pints of Dark Star to wash it down. Very good value.

Great staff and one of the owners took the time to came over and chat to us and gave us some cooking tips.

Shall definately visit again on my next visit to Lewes.
