The Bell Inn, Ladbroke

Happened across this pub when looking for somewhere to celebrate my 40th when on a canal boat in the area. What a result!!! Menu was varied and different to the run of the mill pub, the food was faultless and the staff very friendly. If i was more local, I would definitely be returning.

The Grouse and Ale, Lane End

We have been here again for dinner tonight and, as always, the food never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff are very friendly. Whenever deciding where to eat, we always end up coming back here!

Walnut Tree, Bourne End

I have been recommending the Walnut Tree to my partner after a couple of lunches there with work colleagues. We decided to stop by for lunch today and I was so disappointed. The children's chicken strips were so dry and tough you could hardly cut them and the chips were the greasiest I have ever had. It was very embarrassing that I have been raving about the place and then the food was so bad.

The Frog, Skirmett

Went for lunch today to celebrate a family birthday and I could not fault the food or service at all. My bowl of mussels to start was as big as a main course serving and the mussels were huge and juicy. Everyone at the table ended up trying some as I couldn't eat them all. Rest of meal was equally as good. Staff were friendly and the pub had a good atmosphere. Will definately be back again.

The Frog, Skirmett

Had a lovely meal today sat in the garden. The food was generally very good (particularly the burger) but the pigeon in the salad was a bit tough. Service could have been better - staff were very grumpy and didn't offer sauces etc.

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

Visited for the first time on Saturday when looking for somewhere a bit different. Am very glad we found this hidden delight and will definately be visiting again. The food was quite pricey but the portions were huge and I had the best garlic prawns and steak & kidney pud ever. If you are looking for fine dining, this is not for you but if you want good home cooked traditional grub, it is highly recommended.

The Tilbury, Datchworth

It is very interesting that you have received this poor service and email from the Tilbury. A couple of years ago my mum went for a Christmas celebration lunch there with her friend. The quality of the food was good but the service was very poor and being sat in the back room near the toilet away from the main room where other parties were celebrating did not lead to them having much of a Christmas atmosphere. After asking why they had been sat away from the celebrations, they were told that the larger room was probably too noisey for them - are they not allowed to enjoy Christmas too?! For the rest of their meal, they were aware that the staff were very negative towards them and made them feel unwelcome. Following this meal, they felt the need to write to the owner and make them aware of the poor service. In response to this email, they received the following from Paul Bloxham;.......Is this really the type of response you would expect from a respected chef to a perfectly polite reasonable email

Oh Dear,
So you Just dont get it do you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Usually I use the one day rule to reply and I must say your emeil has just changed my mind. I am not about to justify, defend or indeed appologise for the fact you were totally expecting a Fine Dining HOTEL experience. We are a PUB, that serves good food on bare tables, GASTROPUB !!!!!! 99.9% of our customers understand this and that Sheila includes food critics and foodies alike, maybe you should be questioning your judement on this occaision. Rudenees such as this against me or my team will not be tollereated by any means and as a sesonal gesture I will put it down to a glass too MANY.
Maybe a better worded more rational email may have been the order of the day, and as for your eighty pence it is ready for you to collect or perhaps we could post it to you.
Seasons Greetings
And god help any PUB that has to endure this type of behaviour from grown women. The Cabinet Ha Ha Ha !!!!!!!
