The Prince Albert, Eastbourne

This pub has never been great, and it's getting worse and worse. The landlord ought to retire, as he's evidently lost all interest. Filled every weekend with loud, drunk, obnoxious folk, matched only by the equally obnoxious and totally inefficient staff. If you're not being josstled by swaying inebriates, you're fighting your way to the most disgusting toilets in Eastbourne. Punch-ups are frequent. The ONLY reason this pub is ever busy is because of it's live music reputation, especially now Mullen's, which was a FAR superior music venue is no longer giving it a run for it's money. Best avoided unless you're really desperate to see a band, in which case, a drive out to the Six Bells at Chiddingly would be a much wiser choice!

The Marine, Eastbourne

I agree with the previous reviewer. To my mind, The Marine shines like a beacon of hope in the middle of Dumpsville! There are some terrible pubs nearby, but this place is consistently high on cleanliness, standards and service. The food can be a little pricey, but i have never had a bad meal there yet, and it's worth it for the wonderful warmth and ambience in the place. There are no tricks here. No TV, jukebox, pool table, music, quizzes or entertainment of any kind, and yet it is ALWAYS busy. That's the mark of a damn good, well-run local pub. Although their Christmas decorations have to be SEEN to be believed!!!!!

Victoria Hotel, Eastbourne

In my opinion, this is a pub that hits the nail on the head in every area. It's always clean, warm, cosy and welcoming, and it's a PROPER traditional pub, not some bland restaurant posing as one. The drinks are a bit on the steep side, but it's worth paying the extra to visit this little gem, tucked out the way in what is otherwise a bad area. Their food is fabulous, and the Sunday roasts to die for!

Mullens, Eastbourne

This used to be a great pub when the Mullen family had it. It was a rough pub called the White Hart years ago, but they turned it around and there was never any trouble. Fantastic live music venue too. Now they've gone, and the brewery have seen fit to put a couple of teenage surf bums in charge. The manager looks barely old enough to drink! They're calling it "Buskers" or something these days - not that you'd know, as there is no name over it whatsoever! They still have bands on, but the place is full of kids and the roughnecks are back. I won't use it any more, and neither will most of the old regulars and music lovers. Such a shame.
