The Blue Bell Inn, Dockenfield

This place has improved a lot since I last visited in the summer of 2010.

Excellent Moondance ale, which is always a treat. But more memorable for serving, honestly, the best chips I have ever had in a pub. Very friendly barman, and comfortable surroundings.

The Hop Blossom, Farnham

A delightful little hideaway to enjoy excellent beer, cosy atmosphere and a warm welcome.

The Flowerpots Inn, Cheriton

My first chance to sample the Pots ale in the place where it is brewed and it was simply delicious.

However the landlord was not welcoming, answering our queries about food service like he was telling us off, and then watching us in a disquieting way as we sat and chatted at a table opposite the bar.

Great beer, a strange atmosphere.

The Blue Ball Inn, Grantchester

I first came here in 1999, and even though it was late in the afternoon, the landlord's wife made me a delicious egg and chips meal for just 2.50. It has become a favourite stop when I'm working in Cambridge. It is one of the nicest pubs to be in, with great beer, darts and friendly people all around.

The Hyde Tavern, Winchester

Deserved of its reputation for flawlessly conditioned ale and comfort.

I re-visted yesterday after many years away and if anthing it has got better. A perfect place to chat and play a game of perudo.

The Old House at Home, West Wittering

Very friendly management and staff, alhough busy offering to make my kids a meal which was not on their menu. Highly recommended for their selection of wines and the dessert wine I had was lovely.

Jude The Obscure, Oxford

Unlike a lot of real ale aficionados, I have always been a big fan of Greene King, and the beers here are nice examples of how good GK can get. We had a class reunion here. Service was quick and cheerful and it made for a nice environment to meet with my old friends.

The Carrington Arms, Moulsoe

Quite expensive, but decided to splash out, only to be dissapointed that the food lacked some flavour. The service was very good, however, and the staff friendly.

The Chequers, North Crawley

A good choice whether you're intending to go with the family or on your own, relaxin' with a newspaper. The food is always top value and the service excellent with smiley staff.
