Yates Wine Lodge, Blackpool

They rather amaze me,a bloke complaining his meal was cold THHIS IS NOT A RESTURANT OR CAFE,when I go in during the winter best bet is a hot toddy,(white wine, hot water ,lemon and sugar) thats after getting to the bar,has loads of entrances.
Bloody flashing lights the whole building changes colours outside, very noisy

11 May 2006 21:19

Willow Grove, Southport

No one seems to have pointed out this is a Lloyds No 1 (Wetherspoons),it was the first Lloyds I visited and put me off Lloyds being very expensive, cost 1 more for the same drinks in spoons.
Very dark and had lasers chasing all overthe floor, caught this red thing in my eye and it realy scared me,I thought it was a flame!
Handy for the railway station

11 May 2006 21:05

Churchills Bar, Blackpool

You can't realy go wrong here, their are 3 pubs here or come out of the back door,2-3 doors away is the Cedar Tavern, gay, but not realy,if your with wife she can go down the street for shopping in the market

10 May 2006 18:37

The White Horse Inn, Beverley

The atosphere here is brilliant but if you want to see some brilliant pubs try these
1 The Black Horse (Preston) Robinsons
2 The Bispham Hotel (Bispham/Blackpool) S Smith
3 The Winter Gardens (Harrogate) Free House
4 The Palladiwm (Llandudno) free House
5 The Picture House (Colwtn Bay) Free house
6 The Blue Anchor (Lancaster) Thwaites
7 The Three Mariners (Lancaster) Thwaites
8 The Hole in the Wall (Bowness on Windermere)
9 The Bell (Moreton on Marsh)
10 The Liverpool Arms (Conwy)

8 May 2006 19:38

The Dog and Partridge, Preston

As stated above this is a biker pub,but seems to be dropping off with them, used to be loads of bikes on the pavement6 outside, most of them very noisy things.
Usualy has 2 guest beers on and Addlestons cider, serves good reasonable meals at dinner, pool table, juke box and occasional live music at night-main drawback-only opens 12.00-14.00 hours weekdays

6 May 2006 16:41

The Station Inn, Ribblehead

God knows why this pub was built where it is but it is a nice pub, only had chance for a breif visit-the gents toilet is known as "the loo with a view",looking through the open window the view is filled with the Ribblehead viaduct, but don't think of ringing your freinds on a mobile-no signals any where round here-about 2 miles away you can visit the "White Scar" caves or the other way the village of Hawes where Wensleydale cheese is made.

4 May 2006 21:52

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

Not realy keen on this place-found it small and expensive-worth a visit ONCE-part of it is cut into the cliff face and I have been in there on realy warm day and clouds form.

3 May 2006 16:28

The Royal Children, Nottingham

Lovely pub, opposite the castle, goes well back, apparently gets it's name as the the children of the royals in the castle used to play with the landlords children.
Very spacious and cool in hot weather

3 May 2006 16:19

The Albert, Llandudno

uite large place with plenty of seating, beer was good, service good PROVIDING YOU DID NOT WANT BEER about 5 staff seving food but one bloke on his own behind the bar,he was doing his best but still took around 5 mins to get served, seemed to have a good selection of beers. One thing to watch with Llandudno,do not go their on May day,it is the Victorian transport festival, the pubs are full ( with a lot of children (bless them ) running about
(best place beleive it or not is Spoons, where kids or on another (or should be) floor.
Also something I do not like was the large head (a good half inch) but it took so long to get served in the first place I did not ask for it to be topped up.

2 May 2006 22:56

Cross Keys Hotel, Llandudno

Went in yesterday and the landlord seemed a nice freindly chap, reasonable size, the beer good witha fair selection I had Flowers which I don't usualy drink (being a cider man) but at cider being over 2.50 a pint I dropped down to bitter, bar a little on the small size.
I cannot understand being charged 2.60 for a pint of Strongbow when Spoons do Old Rosie and Organic at 1.99 and7.3

2 May 2006 22:34

Hartleys Of Preston, Preston

Pub used to be a small place called "The Oddfellows",this was knocked into the chip shop next door and is very large, not bad beer (Jennings) but it has one major drawback, the toilets are up a huge flight of stairs,I asked if their was a disabled toilet and was told "theres no room for one" so if your poor on stairs avoid this place.

27 Apr 2006 21:01

The Kings Head, Llandudno

Can be a little hard to find being behind the tram station BE CAREFUL CROSSING THE TRAM LINES,excellent beer, freindly people, look out for the glass depicting the tram leaving the station, nice and warm although maybe on the small side

27 Apr 2006 20:46

The Grey Friar, Preston

This is one of the realy large spoons, good food served, usual beers are Marstons Pedigree,Thwaites mild,Theakstons best bitter and Old Peculiar,Boddingtons,John Smiths,Fosters,Carlsberg,San Miguel,Carling,Strongbow,4 guest beers,Old Rosie and Original in boxes numerous bottled ciders and beers,Smiths @ 1.35 a new cheap pub has just opened in Preston so the cheap beer brigade has moved there.
Partialy none smoking,2 disabled entrances, but it's main problem is you move away from the windows and it is very dark.
Nice manager and mrs (also a manager) most staff are freindly, and what seems to be a major problem with spoons is the toilets are only up about 6 steps, well worth a visit, about 5 minutes walk from the railway station (loads of good pubs nearby including 4 real ale pubs)

26 Apr 2006 14:00

Zachariah Pearson, Hull

The most unpleasant spoons I have been in,it looked like a refuse wagon had been in,unloaded then left.
They could not make coffee ,because,"The machine is broken",they wer buggered, because,"the tills broken",nobody heard of a kettle and a brain, mind you I have been in a spoons when the staff had a conferance on how to make a black coffee vcf

23 Apr 2006 17:10

The Bonny Boat, Hull

Have to agrre with the comments of the other reviewer,I don't know how I found it but I am glad I did,it is quite dark but the beer is good

23 Apr 2006 16:59

John Laird, Birkenhead

Nobody seems to tell that this is a Wetherspoons and I would reckon the best of the two in Birkenhead very handy for the bus station and one of the rail stations is quite close.
on the 2-3 times I have been their has been a guest beer on at 1.19 a pint and it was good, very busy place, food served, very crowded,it would seem to me that Birkenhead is a large town with no one wanting to tell people about the pubs

22 Apr 2006 03:48

Sir Henry Segrave, Southport

Now named "The Sir Thomas Seagrove",has been "done up",now none smoking (after conversion all wetherspoons become none smoking)

19 Apr 2006 20:07

The White Horse Inn, Beverley

Only one problem here, thats it's o dark, but a number of Sam Smiths pubs have beautiful interiors, just a pity there is not more of them and that some of the owners are so miserable.
They have the old brewery system where everything sold in their pubs is brewed by themselves,as for food I was not impressed but I only wanted something to ward of the hunger.
Pity the brewery seems to have bought a load of pubs down South but Nellies is a nice pub and if I get chance I will visit the place again, the cider and stout are quite tasty.

17 Apr 2006 16:57

The Penny Bank, Lancaster

Freindly pub, about 4 guest beers including a couple called "Turrels",brewed near Penrith by the landlords brother, food available

16 Apr 2006 05:59

Eric Bartholomew, Morecambe

Nice large pub, good selection of guest beers and ciders,2 things to note is if you are disabled you need to obtain the key for the toilet, this is due to a Irish family who "took over" the place and forced the manager to obtain the councils permission to change lock, next the person who wants to complain,go to Wetherspoons web site and fill in the feedback form,I did, they investigated my complaint (s),replied by post, have arranged to have something done about it and enclosed a voucher as an apology.
If you get fed up here try the Smiths pub round the corner,

13 Apr 2006 18:10

Cumberland View, Morecambe

Quite large pub, very comfortable but dinnertimes seemed pretty quiet, maybe because it's on the outskirts (just) of town, great views across Morecambe Bay

13 Apr 2006 17:57

The Globe Inn, Dumfries

Very unusual to find (and miss) as it is in a courtyard,it was only because I happened to glance down it.
Lot's of Burns stuff there, not bad beer,

11 Apr 2006 17:48

The Lazy Cow, Stratford Upon Avon

Used to have a micro-brewery where you could watch the beer brewing, little on the expensive side don't drink to much as it's near the river

11 Apr 2006 17:35

The Shrewsbury Hotel, Shrewsbury

Had a meal in here, quite a large place with a seperate eating area, lovely view of the river, helpful manager she came across and looked after a old couple of regulars.
Situated at the bottom of "The Mardol",and near the "Welsh Bridge",I was slightly amazed outside (nothing to do with the pub a signpost pointing to the river ,as though you needed a signpost.

7 Apr 2006 16:41

The Albion Vaults, Shrewsbury

Nice little pub, handy bus and rail stations-freindly landlady unfortunatly being spoilt by a load of yobs but there days are numbered

7 Apr 2006 16:31

The Winter Gardens, Harrogate

This place is HUGE,best Spoons (for decor) I have been in,a little awkward for acces if your not to good on stairs, usual stuff for spoons,as stated the sevice is quite slow, mainly because of the legnth of the bar,the staff could do with skates, spoons now do a very good range of ciders.
Outside seating available.

5 Apr 2006 17:57

Lloyds No. 1, Harrogate

THIS PLACE IS NOW CLOSED

5 Apr 2006 17:49

The Market Tavern, Preston

Small but comfortable pub,has a regular changing selection of at least 4 guest beers (changes somtimes 3 times a week + loads of bottled beers, last year about 400 different beers appeared,I know it had got to over 370,only trouble is it's to small.
Popular with shoppers and market traders
Freindly staff and clean, bandit,a little on the expensive side

4 Apr 2006 16:35

White Bull, Walton Le Dale

Has sloping floor which makes the bar quite high at one end (presumably as it is near the banks of the Ribble and liable to flooding, used to be run by Bernard Youens (Stan Ogden) from "Corrie",almost opposite where the bloke who formed the Temperance society lived, nice place for a pint on a country walk even though it's on the A6,walk up the hill round the corner and your in the country.

4 Apr 2006 16:14

The Square Bottle, Chester

Having been in quite a few Wetherspoons I must admit this is not one of my favourites, staff did not seem to care if they served or not and it seemed a bit on the dirty side, looked more like a resturant than a pub,but I must recomend spoons on the whole, made a complait about 4 branches and someone contacted them, let me know the results and sent me a 5 voucher as a gesture.

2 Apr 2006 19:28

The London Hotel, Llandudno

Visited yesterday-nice quiet place-4 guest beers

1 Apr 2006 09:44

The Black Horse Hotel, Preston

Not much room to move here and even worse in the gents but the interior of the pub is a delight-now opens Sunday dinner-the mosaic floor used to be covered by carpets used to be used by a lot of "theatricals" when there was a theatre next door..

29 Mar 2006 21:25

Pogue Mahone, Preston

This place as changed names again,it started as "The Grapes",then "The North Western",then the Irish name which apparently means "kiss my ass" in Irish and is now Prestons second "Last Orders",as it's so cheap (1.10 a pint for Strongbow) all Prestons pissheads are there, opens early.but no real ale here.

29 Mar 2006 21:09

The Arkwrights, Preston

Started off as a club, reasonably quiet but pop music on the tv all day, freindly staff and reasonable prices

29 Mar 2006 20:59

Theq Board, Lancaster

This place is now called "The Board" so it took a little finding as it is also set back from the main road, food available and about 6 hand pumps, seemed very quiet, look for the Victoria statue and it's at the back off there

29 Mar 2006 20:54

Woodrow Wilsons, Carlisle

not much you can say about Wetherspoons except it seemed a little on the dark side and it is a Lloyds so more expensive than the other one, seems very low ceilinged to me but I would not fancy Botchergate at night, close to both bus and rail stations (and the cop shop)

24 Oct 2005 19:57

The Bonny Boat, Hull

Small, clean pub, interior a little on the dark side,Mansfield beers one of the nicest pubs in Hull in my own opinion.

17 Oct 2005 06:46

Old Bridge Hotel, Holmfirth

Not realy a pub but a hotel with a public bar,Manstons beers mainly on sale, nice bar though

15 Oct 2005 16:36

The Nook, Holmfirth

Great little pub, easy to find (ha,ha),regular guest beers, open fire, only thing I could find wrong was there was a strange smell,it must be good,1 bloke had come 14 miles to visit and a group of camra members also came specialy.
I beleive it used to be run by a bloke who looked like a tramp, now his son and daughter in law have it,one complaint is there are a couple of steps to the toilets which sort of buggers things up if your dissabled, when I was there, there was Timothy Taylors best bitter on,Holme Valley brewery,Copper Dragon from Skipton plus the usual beers

15 Oct 2005 16:34

The Tivoli, Morecambe

Sam Smiths pub
Looks small outside but big inside.
Clean with freindly landlord, usual Smiths reasonable prices (ie cider at 1.80) comfortable seating

14 Sep 2005 00:15

Cherry Tree, Huddersfield

A little hard to find from a distance as it does not look like a pub,not far from either the bus or railway stations, keep your eye open for a block of offices belonging to Pearl Assurance it's on the ground floor there, you can't say much about spoons that has not been said before.
Usual stuff though if you like cider most of them have started selling Westons Old Rosie and Westons Organic both at 1.99 and 7.3 great value.

4 Sep 2005 11:47

Kampus, Lancaster

Used to be the "castle",quite a rough house with accomadation, now is a gay pub-quite large-pool table and juke box

27 Aug 2005 20:53

The Boot and Shoe Hotel, Scotforth

This pub is not actualy in Lancaster but in one of it's suburbs around 2 miles from the city centre,it is in Scotforth situated on the A6,only been in once but it looked quite nice.
Bus stops right outside

27 Aug 2005 20:48

The Golden Ball, Scarborough

Sam Smiths pub with a great view of the harbour-cheap food-well reasonable-but on the downside has a bar at ground level but the day I visited it was closed which meant climbing a short flight of stairs WITHOUT ANY HANDRAILS,to get to the toilets meant coming down stairs then back up the other side-in other words-no bloody use if your disabled, but the beer was good-quite a few good pubs and if your hungry chippies and cafes in this area.
When I say no handrails their was some sort of rail their but it was very narrow.

27 Aug 2005 16:36

The Anchor Inn, Salterforth

This pub is alongside the Leeds-Liverpool canal,it was built before the road and bridge outside and when they were built an extra storie had to be built on top of the pub so everything moved up one,the pub was the upstairs, the cellar was the pub but this means an additional cellar, water runs through from the canal and this has formed a "cavern" with stalactites and stalagmites, when I went the landlord took us down and it was floodlit, worth a visit just to see this,it is around 20 years since I went so I cannot speak of the food or drink but I had a excellent home cooked meal there, ideal if you like fishing

19 Jun 2005 19:38

The Friary, Lancaster

" other comments mention the yellow card scheme, what they do not mention is that if you do not have a yellow card it is bloody expensive,as the name suggests it is an old disused church,I have only been it once and because of the prices shall not be returning not when theirs a spoons round the corner.

19 Jun 2005 10:14

The Babington Arms, Derby

I visited last year and it seems to be in a " backwater",not much you can say about spoons, the only thing I have against them is that I am normaly a cider drinker ,spoons sells Dry Blackthorn or Westons but only in bottles, there never seems to be a guest cider in any of them, quite small fo a spoons (as compared to the other one),beer good, staff freindly.

16 Jun 2005 19:53

Wye Bridge House, Buxton

I was wondering why the pubs under the railway bridges are not included in the nearby pubs thing, although the one at the back of spoons never seems to be open at dinner except oin Sunday, the other one (I think its called the railway is always very popular and does wll with food,I noticed someone mentioning the size of it,well this is quite small in Spoons size, try "The Counting House " in Derby,an ex-bank,by the way I see you have a Moods there,is it like the one in Preston-5-30 to 9-30 during the wwek all pints and bottles are 1-50

13 Jun 2005 13:19

NTK, Blackpool

Excellent pub or bar I would call it,just round the corner from the tower, cider 1.70,lager 1.79,Guinness 1.90 but I think the prices increase after 7 pm,freindly bar staff and I have been in there when their have been wet t shirt contests, used by a lot of regulars during the day,if you think that the Mitre next door the cider is 32.40 it speaks for itself, the only problem is nearly everybody uses the disabled toilet as it is always unlocked

3 Jun 2005 19:30

Churchills Bar, Blackpool

Once again the railway station thing seems to have gone wrong,Blackpool South being more like 2 and half miles away while North is around quarter of a mile, mildly gay, entertainment at weekend, lots of memrobilia, not bad beer, plenty of places to eat nearby including the Yorkshire Fisheries, one of the best chippies in Blackpool

3 Jun 2005 19:19

Fellows Morton & Clayton Ltd, Nottingham

yOU NEED TO WATCH THIS ONE-IT LOOKS A LITTLE LIKE A SOLICTORS OFFICE FROM THE OUTSIDE-BUT THE THING IS THAT FELLOWS,MORTON AND CLAYTON OWNED A HUGE FLEET OF CANAL BOATS AND IT WAS THE OFFICES,THE BEER WAS GOOD BUT WE COME TO THE OLD PROBLEM OF THE TOILETS BEING UPSTAIRS-THERE IS A OPEN AREA AT THE REAR-POSSIBLY USED TO BE A WHARF

31 May 2005 20:36

Ralph FitzRandal, Richmond

Pub is situated in the old post office-so has an unusual name-spoons situated in old pot offices are usualy called the Postal Order-spacious and the last time I was their anyone ordering a childs drink were given a colouring book and a pack of crayons-situated near the Old Georgian Theatre and just off the main square, one good thing about Richmond, you can visit most pubs there in a day (you will probably be drunk at the finish, usual stuff for spoons large single straight bar,did you know their a few of us who try to visit as many spoons as possible (I am up to 49) but the bloke who started it is into the 600s and has a website but as long has he has ben there he only has a pint or a half

30 May 2005 22:15

The New Britannia, Preston

This pub is due to change hands shortly, but the present owner is going to carry on looking after the cellar, just at the moment open 12-3 6-11 guest beers constantly changing (including strong cider or perrier) usualy quiet until weekend

30 May 2005 06:50

The Palladium, Llandudno

Problem with this place is ACCESS-to get to the bar you need to go up some stairs-cross a small floor the down stairs-thats from the rear end-it is a beautiful building as like Rhyl and Colwyn Bay it was a cinema and the decoration is superb-it is actualy spelt in Welsh where "W" is "U" so it is Palladiwm, nice chip shop next door, the day I went was a bank holiday and there was the Victorian transport festival on,it started raining and although there were signs saying children not allowed they were running all over the place-and the place was quite full-but I have visited the place a few times and shall be going again

30 May 2005 05:00

The White Horse Inn, Beverley

I visited this pub a few weeks ago and despite being given directions to it missed it the first time-it looks nothing like a pub from the outside, the only thing is that you need to adjust your eyes as it is quite dark, nice an warm though and the floor seemed uneven.
Beer wise as its a Sam Smiths house it's good but is the normal fayre-the landlady was freindly, handy for the bus station but the thing to watch out for is the white horse above the door

30 May 2005 04:28

The Auctioneer, Blackpool

First of all 2 railway stations appear to be the wrong way round,Blackpool South is just around the corner,Pleasure Beach station is around half a mile away,Spoons pub with a good selection of beer,it has a strange feature that here along with Fleetwood,St Annes and Southport the Monday club is also on Tuesdays,I can only say the beer is standard spoons (John Smiths,Marstons Pedigree but has a good selection of guest beers, food served bur as what seems to be the norm with Wetherspoons the toilets are upstairs.

29 May 2005 11:43

The Brown Cow Inn, Clitheroe

Just 1 large room with steps inside the entrance, open 12-4 and 7-11,can be quite chilly,no real ale and not a particulary good selection-Residential

29 May 2005 04:19

The Black Horse Hotel, Preston

Robinsons pub with usualy Old Tom and Scrumpy Jack cider on sale, this is one of the few pubs that has 3 entrances on seperate streets-although one is usualy locked-rooms can be hired for meetings ect.
Quiet usualy at the begining of the week but gets full at weekends-does not open Sundays-fruit machine-juke box-tv-cushty landlady and bar manager (landladies daughter)-if any trouble do not reach for bar stools-they weigh a ton

28 May 2005 21:52

The Angel Hotel, Preston

Situated in the city centre this pub has one thing against it,for some reason they put the toilets in the cellar,so it is not suitable if you are dissabled, but they do sell cheap spirits-but it does not seem the place to settle for the night-but alright for a quick drink.
