The Old Barge, Hertford

This pub has the very best location in Hertford but please do something about the food, its dreadful. If you like dry old beef, sodded broccoli, packet gravy and black potatoes then this is the place for you.
The doorstep sandwiches are all chewy old bread and no filling and the chips are these funny waffle cut type. Yuck.
Be warned, eat here and you will be disappointed.

Fox and Hounds, Hunsdon

This place is wonderful, why hasn't anyone reviewed it before? Its got a lovely garden with swings and play house for the kids, large car park, centrally located in the middle of a pretty village. Great outside seating area and large comfortable lounge / dining room. The food is fantastic. I went the first time and had lobster as they were in season then went back again for Sunday lunch, the roast beef was, i think the best I have ever had. The menu is local, seasonal and adventurous. This chef can cook seriously well and front of house is genuine, easy going and welcoming.
I'm going back

George & Dragon, Watton at Stone

We had a great Sunday lunch 10.50 for adults and 5.00 for kids, the portions were huge, it was good quality and very tasty. The place is very cosy and homely. But guys loose the place mats and claret paper napkins in the wine glasses its a bit old fashioned and cheesy.
That said I'll be back for lunch. Its great value for money.

The Harlyn Inn, Harlyn Bay

A pub with an identity crisis, is it a pub, a beach shop, a cavary or holiday apartments? In such a fantastic location across from a wonderful beach why is the pub facing a car park? I last visited 8 years ago and it was the same then. A cavary in August at a surf bar, odd, very odd. If all you want is a pint and a packet of crisps this is fine and you can sit outside with the dog.
10/10 for location
5/10 for the pub.

Pink and Lily, Princes Risborough

Campanologist obviously needs to go to specsavers!
Its not a chain, which should have been obvious to you from the selection of beers on tap and the high quality food.
If you only go every few years then may be you are not the type of customer they need. I represent the locals and we are extremely pleased that some one has taken it by the scruff of the neck and is trying.
I went again with my wife on Saturday and we had fantastic fish and chips with lovely home made tartare sauce. The dog was welcome, even though she was muddy and we will continue to support it.
May be you should stick to bell ringing instead of slagging of an independent publican who trying to make its mark.

Pink and Lily, Princes Risborough

Well, what a transformation! This pub has been transformed from a tired old boozer to a fantastic dining experience. This place is now under new ownership, they have spent an awful lot of money bringing the Pink and Lily up to date. Tonight they had Doom Bar, Tribute, Timothy Taylor's Landlord and Rebellion on as guest beers as well as Peroni so my husband was happy. We had a fantastic meal, he had Calves Liver and Pancetta Mash and she had The Brooke Burger, handmade burger with all the trimmings. The kids had mini steak and chips. How refreshing not to be offered the usual fried stuff, kids meals! The interior is a nice blend of historic Brooke Bar and light and bright conservatory. Well done The Pink and Lily, we will be back. This place has now taken back its rightful place as the best place to eat and drink in the area.
