I was in The Chandos last night and the last contributor is spot on - I couldn't see any changes either: same lay out, same furniture; same beer; same groups of loud drunks screaming their heads off so you couldn't hear yourself think. Still it's not a bad place to meet before heading soemwhere else.

A decent pub that has improved greatly over the last year or so.
Bar staff are good and the landlord is a huge improvement on the stiff who ran the place a few years back.
All the TV/football games are shown, so if you like a pint and some football this is a good place to visit.
The real ales are limited - and it does get smokey.
But one of the better places in Battersea

Bog standard but fairly agreeable pub from the Sam Smith's stable. Cheap for a Soho pub too.

Agree with the comments about the jukebox - excllent. Otherwise, nothing very special.

This might be a nice pub if the bar staff weren't so miserable

Waxy's Little Sister, Piccadilly Circus
Used to be The Falcon. Great pub and smashing upstairs bar. Now another tired Irish theme bar.

Been there on a couple of Saturday nights and it's been empty. Traditional pub style and service Ok. Just needs a few punters to liven the place up.

Traditional style pub. Small on space but big on atmosphere. Gets busy but worth the trouble of finding it.

The Royal Court Tavern, Sloane Square
Souless bar. No character. Customers loud and self absorbed. Bar staff disinterested. The Antelope round the corner is better.

The Hoop and Toy, South Kensington
Popular with tourists and office workers. A pleasant enough pub with efficent service. Tends to get very busy early evening.

The Worlds End Distillery & Restaurant, Chelsea
Very seedy pub with dodgy customers. Indifferent service.

Best pub in Battersea, which might not be much of a recomendation, but this one is really good. Comfortable, excellent and friendly service. good food and well kept beers. Very handy for the park on summer afternoons.

A local pub for local people. Are you local? If not stay away. The sort of place where all the locals stare at you when you walk in. Best advice, turn round and go somewhere else. There is nothing to recommend this pub.

Tables and chairs falling to bits the place has a seedy feel about it. Shame because it does Tanglefoot, which is rare in these parts. Customers are the usually loud Battersea yuppy crowd. Service Ok. Pool table is out, designer grub is in.

Upstairs theatre presents comedy on Monday nights which seem popular. Plenty of Sport coverage on TV (if you like that sort of thing). New management has improved the pub greatly compared to this time last year. Staff friendly and service good.

The pubs is far too smokey, has been for several years and why should you have to ask for the extractor to be turned on! Not a very good pub but slightly less foul than the Cabbage Patch.

Probably a good pub if you are under 20, like pool and enjoying being in a crowd of yobs swearing as loud as they can. Grossly expensive.

A wonderful pub in a brilliant, almost time warp location (like being back in the sixties). Service is fine and the beers OK. One of the best pubs south of the river.

A really small bar - really rather cramped; Bass bitter. there are better pubs around

Small bar, average sort of clientel. Really nothing to mark it out of the ordinary.

The Salisbury, Leicester Square
On my last five visits to this pub I have found the staff to be friendly and attentive. It is a splendidly furnished bar and the Youngs Winter Warmer well kept. One of the minor gems of the West End.

The Duke of Cambridge, Battersea
Yes, this pub did win "Evening Standard Pub of the Year" a few years ago, which says something about the Evening Standard. Gastro style pub, with rubbish old furniture. No comfort factor at all. Customers are a bunch of twenty-something bores. Only plus point is the service which is generally friendly and efficent.

Classic old style boozer with ok beers. Let down by a barmaid who must have come last in a personality competition

Traditional pub with character (if you want pubs devoid of character try All Bar One etc). Always a pleasure to visit.

Fine Interior, excellent friendly service, though the range of beers was a bit disappointing - but that's a matter of personal choice. Generally, worth visiting

A good pub to meet in, but not worth staying in for the evening - it gets packed. Beers are usually well kept.
7 Dec 2003 14:19
Awful pub. Full of bores talking loudly about themselves. Have to negotiate pushchairs with brats in order to get to the bar. Not the worse pub in Battersea, but it's trying hard..
7 Dec 2003 14:17
Can't fault the building or the service, but somehow it just lacks character.

Nice pub, good service, fine location. Always found the beers to be Ok.

Has all the usual values associated with Wetherspoon pubs (cheap beer and food, no music or TV, etc) and the bar staff work hard, but are often overwhelmed by people waiting to get served. Not helped by a landlady who spends her time drinking with cronies. Customers consist of geezers, spivs and assorted low life.

The Zetland Arms, South Kensington
Went in the Zetland early Saturday evening. Average range of beers, service OK, fairly pleasant atmosphere except for the guy who came into the gents and offered to sell me crack. Not what I want to see.
