The Old Bank of England, Fleet Street

It's a perfectly serviceable Fullers chain - London Pride was nice, food average microwaved pub nosh. Perfect for a book group - big tables, quiet music, and after 7 o'clock, the lawyers have gone home!

The Roebuck, Borough

Came here with my gf, and a friend each, for the quiz, dinner and some drinkies. Hammering down with rain, barstaff offered cashback instead of trekking to the cash point; helpful and fairly knowledgeable about the beers (meantime!).

Superb food (risotto only got cold because I waited for a staggered order to be delivered, still tasted pretty good for high end pub grub - not low end gastro...) and well served booze. Quizmaster was good, if a little too pleased with the sound of his own voice. Half decent bottle of plonk for second prize, but winning the rollover cash pot was a real bonus ;)

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

The County, Ilford

Lovely staff, really friendly; decent chips after food closing; jazz on Sundays! Not much of a real ale fanatic when I'm this close to home (save that for the countryside proper) but the Becks was cold, the sofas comfortable, the fire warm and the TV was showing La Liga.

Good times.

The Highfield, Portswood

Nice replacement for the Stile (was in halls near there, now live up the road from The H), and I'm glad the new landlord moved with me, as it were.

Nice beer, good staff, clean, great food, and shows the Spanish league

New Fairlop Oak, Barkingside

Hate it. No atmosphere, although there are some more interesting lagers coming through... you have to know a member of staff to get served, and even then, it can take a good while
