The Charles Lamb, Angel, Islington

Great spot for a pint, particularly if you're after something a bit out of the ordinary. Good selection of bottles too - especially like the range from Kernel brewery.

Not eaten there but the food I've seen come out of the kitchen looks pretty decent.

The Canonbury, Canonbury Place

An awful, awful refurbishment - it's like they've tried as hard as possible to make it as soulless as they can. There are so many better pubs in the area. Avoid.

Lord Clyde, Canonbury

The best pub in the area by quite some distance. Great choice of guest ales with Sambrooks Wandle a regular favourite. The food is really excellent and even better now that they've stopped serving everything on wooden planks and invested in some plates. There's always a good choice and they make changes regularly though the fish & chips is hard to beat. My main reason for really liking the Clyde though is the excellent pub quiz each Monday - with the added bonus of the quiz special pint and a meal for a tenner. Highly highly recommended. Ignore the photos on BITE - they're from a previous incarnation.

The Edinburgh Cellars, Newington Green

Went in last Friday, much improved and so much busier than ever before. Struggling a bit with lack of staff right now but they are at least advertising for more so they recognise the problem. Three ales on tap - Landlord, Tribute and Black Sheep - had a decent pint of the Tribute. No food available as yet, not sure if they're planning some for the future. The back room looks great now, hope they're planning on lighting the fire now it's getting colder. The one major negative, besides the slow service, was the music - pretty awful very loud 80s pop. Either turn it down or improve the choice. Besides that this is definitely one of the better pubs in the area now.
