The Wey Bridge, Alton

CLOSED - a few years ago. Now a pound shop. Handy if you need a washing up bowl. Not much in the line of beers though.

The Talbot Hotel, Winton

I've been a couple of times and the place has been generally quiet. May have bands on weekend nights and theme nights according to the board outside. Had bottled Newcastle B so can't comment on other beers.

The Silverback Ale House, Winton

Good micro pub with very well kept beers. No food, but central High St location so plenty around. Great place to meet, chat and sample some good beers that change frequently.

Bull Inn, Bentley

Sadly been closed for a year or so.

Gullivers Tavern, Kinson

Went in the newly names 'The Acorn' for a pint and was pleasantly surprised. Good selection of well kept real ales. No food, so don't plan to eat here. If you want a decent pint in Kinson then this place fits the bill. Friendly landlord, maybe new? A good add-on to real beer bars across Bournemouth.

The Anchor Inn, Lower Froyle

Called in recently on a Sunday morning. Very good pint, very pleasant barman.

Open mic night Sunday evening. Nice pint of Ringwood, very friendly staff and customers. Recommended.

The Railway Arms, Alton

The Railway is far from closed, not sure why it shows as that. Still serving great beer, no food, a little music and good bar chat.

The Railway Hotel, Alton

CLOSED - no beer at the inn.

Bull Inn, Bentley

En route a walk from Alton to Farnham. Stopped in Bentley village and changed route to walk direct to The Bull. Don't do this! Awful walk along 500yds of dual carriageway. Go to church and walk along lane and paths down to Bull. Nice pint of Tribute, but 3.45. Most expensive drink today. Nice if you drive here in your Merc (as a lot of folk do).

The Star Inn, Bentley

En route Alton to Farnham (on foot) called in for a nice pint of Fullers Pride. Had Courage and Doom Bar also (the bar,not me). Pub undergoing a refurb with the aim of serving good wholesome grub at decent prices - from a fiver to ten poonds. All home cooked. Will call bck and sample this fine looking fare.

The Anchor Inn, Lower Froyle

Midweek day off work. Walking from Alton to Farnham. 1st stop at the Anchor. Only one in pub. Beautiful pint of Andwell's King John. And now onwards.

Bull Inn, Bentley

Another pub that's changed hands in the last year. Crackin' pint of something (can't remember what) and if the food's as good as the beer,we'll pop along one evening to try it.

The Blue Bell Inn, Dockenfield

Visited recently on a hot Sunday lunchtime. Having been last year it seems to have found its natural place in the country pub equilibrium. This year its a lot better, and not so up itself. Much nicer atmosphere. Blue Bell Ale was something special. Didn't eat.

The George, Alton

Nice modern take on Altons pubs. Beer good - tried Tribute recently. Nice and airy. Catches evening sun in summer.

The Compasses Inn, Salisbury

Had an excellent stay here late in 2009. Beer was excellent, along with the food.
Wish I'd been there in the 60's (see Latitudes comment below).

The Royal Oak, Lower Farringdon

Nice modern fresh refurb. Did not try food, but of the 6 beers on pump , tried 2. Pompey something-or-other was very good, as was the dark mild. Very pleasant landlord. Will be back.

The Sandrock, Boundstone

Went along on Friday lunchtime. Beer condition (Abbots Gate, I think) was excellent. As was the food (freshly cooked to order). Although busy, they advised there would be a delay for food, not a problem on this occasion. Great pub.

The Star Inn, Bentworth

Great little pub in village centre. More 'down to earth' than The Sun. Had been recommended the food, and the menu looked very good. My burger was nothing special though and not cheap. Perhaps the recommender had little taste?! Will certainly go back for beers and to try other menu options.

The Anchor Inn, Lower Froyle

Called in Sat 1st March. Still not open. Said they would be open for drinks on Sunday evening.

8 Mar 2008 17:28

The White Hart, Holybourne

Had a midweek meal here the other day. Very good food. Use locally caught produce. Beers well kept. Landlord remembers the orders. Always a nice touch.

8 Mar 2008 17:26

The White Horse, Alton

Often pop in at weekends for a lunchtime pint sandwich. Food is very good, as is the beer. Speckled Hen I think. Well kept.

8 Mar 2008 17:24

The Rose and Crown, Upper Farringdon

Very friendly pub, tucked away from the main road masses. Beer excellent condition - tried Courage Best for the first time in years, Bowmans Swift, TEA, and London Pride. Food also excellent. Will be back to work through the menu. May have to walk over to justify the food and beer.

8 Mar 2008 17:20

28 Feb 2008 18:15

The Chequers Inn, Well

Visited recently. Great pint of Hopping Hare. Food was good although limited, on Sundays, to Sunday roasts or the starters, no sandwiches. Not many tables inside. Will be back to try menu and more beers.

The Fountain Head, Branscombe

Went here in April. Great pub, out of the way. Good beer & food. Like pubs should be. And, back there tomorrow!

16 Aug 2007 14:57

The Robin Hood, Standford

Saturday 16th. Powercut added to the ambience. Various beers, HSB being very good. Food also partaken. We'll be back.

18 Dec 2006 19:57

The Outback, Whitehill

Good local village pub. Well managed, good atmosphere. No real beers, but wide range lagers, spirits et al. Mick and Barb (owners) back in residence after, very brief, relocation. Long may they stay.

1 Sep 2006 22:24

The Royal Oak, Hollywater

Pub now re-opened! If you like your beer with a little rock music, go along on Friday/Saturday nights. No food as yet, but beers are kept well - Black Sheep, and two others. Quieter in the daytime. Long may it be a success.

1 Sep 2006 22:20

The Funky End, Aldershot

Used to work up the road from here. Great place at lunchtime. Good food, good beers. As someone else said, an oasis in Aldershot.

1 Sep 2006 22:16

The Sun Inn, Bentworth

A 5 mile Sunday morning walk , then back to the pub. A word of advice - book if you want food! We scraped in, but only just. However, what a pub! excellent range of well kept beers, and excellent food. Not eh cheapest, but this led to an extravagent Sunday lunch . . well 95 for 4. Looking forward to a return.

28 Apr 2006 19:19

The Railway Arms, Alton

Visited here at end of March. Beers excellent (as they always seem to be when I come here). They now have a new convert from Manchster who was with me. Could have stayed all day, and nearly did.

28 Apr 2006 19:12

Commercial Inn, Dunfermline

Always worth a visit when here. Good selection of well kept beers. Cheaply priced food. Can get busy.

4 Jan 2006 18:34

The White Horse Inn, Priors Dean

Winter, a fire, a pint (or 2), and food (try the home-made fish & chips). A eutopian evening. May you spend many more trying to find it!

4 Jan 2006 18:31

The Harrow, Steep

Great olde pub. Barrel ales, home made food (not a full varied menu). Try the ploughmans. 2 smallish bars make for cosy winter drinks. Summer outside is a pleasure.

4 Jan 2006 18:26

The Greatham Inn, Greatham

New village pub with varied ales that are well kept. Friendly place. Good food.

4 Jan 2006 18:22

The Hawkley Inn, Hawkley

Good out of the way pub with good variety of beers and they're well kept. Food good but not cheap. Try the Bloody Mary for a non-pint treat.
