The Grosvenor Arms Aldford, Aldford

I know it's expensive and the food is not always that great (on our last Sunday visit the beef was curly around the edges and so tough a steak knife couldn't cope and my sons burger was so rare the lower bun was dripping and soggy with blood - surely a food safety issue) but i still love this pub!

The Old Harkers Arms, Chester

Was always a sure bet when in Chester but it's now over priced and the food is really not that great of late.

The Brewery Tap, Chester

Could have really enjoyed our first visit here. Thought the food and ales first rate but a real shame about customer service standards. The visit was sadly let down by the bar maid chewing gum loudly with her mouth open and our placing an order clearly interrupting her chat with a colleague. Otherwise a great place and we will give it another go.

The New Helsby Arms, Helsby

Have a new head chef and it shows. Was always quite good but sometimes a bit slow and made mistakes. Now the food is first rate, service very relaxed & friendly & the place is always busy. Went for a friends birthday last week & everything was first rate. Reasonable prices on the bar and quality food at great value for money. The "homemade steak burger" was the first one I've ever had that was obviously homemade and it was superb! Quite a few people in just drinking. Nice atmosphere.

Carriers Inn, Norley

Agree with last reviewer - looks & feels like a nice pub in great setting but charging top restaurant prices. Nearly 5 for bowl of soup & 17 for an 8 oz sirloin. Not that great & had to pay an extra 2.20 for small portion of sauce, 11 for very average burger & chips - rip off I say!
