The Tigers Head, Chislehurst

I've only been to a couple of Chef and Brewer pubs and they are both really, really nice. The food is fantastic, the beer is good and the interiors are warm, traditional and friendly. The other one is the Bull in Otford.

The Lyceum, Strand

I really like this place. It's cheap and simple and you can almost always get a seat upstairs on a Friday/Saturday night, although it's never empty.

The Old Thameside Inn, London Bridge

Great during the summer months, especially when they've got a barbeque on. Inside is a bit dull. Saw a mouse walking around on the shelf behind the bar last time I was in. Bar staff didn't seem bothered.

The Oast House, London Bridge Station

From what I've seen, most of the regular clientele aren't the type to concern themselves about fact that the nearest toilets are located on the platform. Just going where they stand/slump saves valuable drinking time and doesn't cost 20p.

The Tottenham, Soho

I visited as one of the 12 out if 20 there to meet someone because it was conveniently located and was sorely tempted just to stand outside and wait for them. In the rain.

The White Hart, Kennington

Quite a nice place. Went on a Saturday night when it was rammed, but looked like the sort of place that might be a little sterile if there were any fewer people in.

The Trinity Foot, Swavesey

Used to do lunchtimes here with the GD lot. Crappy old pool table, but the rest of the pub is really nice. Little bit 'local', but you're in the fens, so it's going to be.

The Swan, West Wickham

Is Rick still running this place? Remember when Bill and Margaret used to. They were grumpy. Rick was less grumpy and played Rugby, so he always had a black eye. Popped in here a few months ago and it was rubbish, because I didn't know anyone anymore. Can't really blame that on the pub, though. Sorry, I've come over all stream of consciousness. Forget I said anything.

Fan Club, Leicester

Went here at the end of last year and had a corking night. Just like Jemma says is how it is.

Kaos, Southampton

Christ, what a place. Any night in here is likely to end up being as messy as the kebab-strewn pavement outside. Don't know if they're still doing vodka and Coke for 60p on some week nights - haven't drunk vodka since. Responsible for some of the best nights out I've known. I miss it a lot.

The Yacht, Greenwich

Was here at the weekend and, although the atmosphere and layout are nice, was not impressed by the food and disgusted by the service. Ordered bangers and mash, which cost the best part of 10 and was a couple of manky sausages and a tiny blob of what I'm fairly sure was Smash. And no gravy, despite it being advertised as including 'onion gravy' on the menu. When asked politely if I could have the absent gravy, the barman became surly and, when he brought the food over, huffed and puffed and made a big point of saying how he 'had to make it especially'. It was f@cking Bisto. Really, don't eat here.

The Marquis of Granby, Covent Garden

Really liked this place. It's dark and an interesting shape, the staff are attentive and welcoming. Not exactly a party place, more of a quiet drink and chat venue.

Walkabout, Southampton

Yaay, love it! Fun night out. Love the food.

Seymours, Southampton

Good for late night drinking, when the pubs shut up shop and you don't fancy the noise of the Academy. Used to spend a lot of time in here before the refurb. Looks a bit too metallic now for my liking.

The Avondale House, Southampton

Really studenty. Which is fine if you are one. You'll have a cracking time. If you're not, don't go there. You won't.

Kelly's, Southampton

This place used to be the Bier Kellar, which was a great night out (the major highlight was the German oompa band that got everyone doing dance steps and drinking games - pure comedy). Came back to town to find that it was now Kelly's. Not as good as it used to be, but still worth a visit if you're after a cheap, mindless p!ss up and your mates aren't too discerning.

The Varsity, Southampton

One of the classier student joints in the area. Food's nice and not pricey, general layout is good, can lack in atmosphere sometimes, but good for a fun night out most nights and a comfy chilled afternoon.

The Giddy Bridge, Southampton

One of my locals from my student days. In hindsight, it was probably rubbish, but it was cheap and we had some corking afternoons and evenings in there. Love it!

The Black Horse, Fitzrovia

Went here last night and didn't see the pool tables. Must have been binned during the refurb. Upstairs quite empty, but a nice chilled atmosphere and the lager was fine. Guess they must have swabbed the pipes during the refurb too.

Bradleys, Fitzrovia

Didn't really get it, although it had some great reviews here. Stuck our heads round the door upstairs and downstairs and it just looked a bit gloomy and too busy. Might just have been a bad time of day to go.

The Star Inn, St Mellons

Handy for where I used to work, I got dragged here on too many occasions to remember. And whilst, initially, the slightly grotty ambience, watery beer and faux-gangsters who frequented the pool table of an evening (seriously, there're even some middle-aged twins who stake it out, both in identical raincoats and trying their best to look hard, like less menacing Krays on bouncer duty) made it quirky, I've stayed away for a long time now, because it really is a depressing place to spend an evening. Stay away if you can.

The Nell Gwynne, Covent Garden

The perfect place for a long night with the boys. It has a warm atmosphere and the jukebox has one of the best selections I have come across. Topdog Andy is right, though. If you don't get yourself a seat, your evening can be disturbed by people trying to get past you to get to the bathroom every few seconds, which can be a bit frustrating. Get yourself in there early, grab a seat, bung some tunes on the jukebox and enjoy your night. A quick stumble to Charing Cross for the last train, too.
