First and last visit to this place; the worst run Youngs pub that I've ever been in.
Stood awaiting service for ages, even though hardly anyone else waiting to be served. Blonde young muscle 'Mary' farting about behind the bar.
Had the great misfortune of waiting for some young blonde tart to engage her brain into service; she thought nothing of handing over two pints with a good three inches of froth to fella in front of me. Strange place.
Avoid.

The Hoop and Grapes, City Of London
I used to go into this pub many moons ago, before it was demolished, (with the exception of the original brick front facing). This was once a superb pub. Sadly not now; dirty, badly run. So strange for a S N establishement in central London. Truely the worst I have ever been in. And I love S N pubs and beer; The Bishop's Finger in Smithfield; The Prince of Wales in Kennington run by French Nick;superb!
I think a visit from Head office staff from Kent as soon as possible needs to be arranged to save this places reputation as a S N house; the landlord's "blind eye acceptence to punters sniffing "snow, talculm powder?" in the City of London is a sight one doesn't see often outside Soho these days.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street
Still an over rated tourist trap, playing on the Doctor Johnson connection. There's no written or published proof that he ever used the place;it's all built on one comment by a 19th centuryjournalist drinking here; pure rubbish. Howeverthat aside,I had a very pleasant couple old old Ales served by the charming Aussie in the front bar this afternoon. Informed, cheerful and on the ball beer wise. The place was empty, except for 3 Bankers in the corner on fruit juice. This was such a great bar to sit and smoke in once;nowkilled off or left to die by this governments antismoking polcy. How many more pubs will go as a result?

The Battle of Trafalgar, Brighton
Only a short trot up the hill on the right as you leave Brighton Station for a swift half hour change over of trains. Harvey's was okay. However this place need a good make over; looks as though it's run by seedy, sixtie plus Brighton hippies judging by the decor and dustiness. Would visit it again, but would have to pull it's socks up first.

A special place to know between Great Portland Street and Marylebone. Former stable block pub. Very cosy and pleasant. Especially on a Winter's night. Highly recommended.
