White Lion, Disley

How can you have a sunday lunch that welcomes dogs but not kids? Nice ale and food though.

The White Horse Hotel, Disley

Nice couple but I felt really self conscious if I laughed too loud, get the feeling they don't like groups? Even small ones.

The Crescent, Disley

Watched the match there yesterday and they had a brilliant BBQ on too. Ended up staying all day and watched the band in the evening. It was a brilliant night, coming back again definitely.

Bulls Head Hotel, Stockport

Had a brilliant night here on a Thursday with Griff doing karaoke. Good times.

The Phoenix, Hazel Grove

Staff were nice and food tasted ok but my partner had a stange stomach later on in the evening. Not sure whether was food, drink (he was on ale, I was on lager) or maybe a coincidence. HUGE TV's everywhere which kind of killed conversation.

Atlantic Inn, St Mary's

Nice space with outside area but witnessed the staff being given a very public dressing down by the manager. Felt a bit uncomfortable. Decent beer.

The Plough Boy, Disley

Nice place with character. Friendly bar staff and informal entertainment.

Recently went for first time in a long time and pleasant suprise. New refurb is fresh but in character. Beer is excellant and good range of other drinks. New landlord and landlady seem nice and locals are friendly. They sell fresh eggs, run a meat raffle and are looking to do more by the sound of it.

The new beer garden is great with easily the best view in Disley over Kinder and general peak district looking area, and off the road. New smoking shelter, a necessary evil! Fresh flowers, clean toilets, open fireplace for winter, vast jump from last time a saw it a few years ago.

Dog friendly, and their own dog is definatly the cutest mongrel ever! Take a look.

The Willoughby Arms, Alford

Nice pub a bit out of the way in a sleepy little village. Open fire, games room, pool and darts and a really good size beer garden. Food is basic pub style and good value. Ale excellent. I went on a sunday and for the first time in ages i actually saw homemade yorkshire puddings, quality.

Royal Oak, Wainfleet

Had a really nice night. Landlord friendly and happy to shoot the breeze. Ale and beer good. Busy with lots of locals, TV for sports without being a magnet for trouble, pool table. Good fun, best in Wainfleet easily.

Woolpack Hotel, Wainfleet

We stayed there, ate there and drank there. The room was ok. Beer and cider was ok. Bar staff didn't acknowledge we were there until we smiled encouragingly for about five minutes. Meal was beyond belief bad.

Ordered something foolproof, Scampi Chips and Peas. It arrived and there were only 5 small bits of scampi on the plate, for 7 and something. We pointed it out, requested some more pieces. She disappeared for 10 minutes, (cue backround noise from kitchen of fun and laughs and weird music) then came back to tell me that was all they had. She really didn't care. Told her i wasn't paying full price, got it down to 4.50. We finished ASAP and went down the road for a drink elsewhere. Don't expect to order your own breakfast either, you get what your given. Shame, as it could be a nice space.

Litten Tree, Retford

Food OK but probably all bought in. Good value, not a bad pint but deserted in the day and packed full of people after 11 for later opening.

The Dominie Cross, Retford

Typical Weatherspoons. Cheap and well put together but totally soul-less. Staff were polite but clearly clocking on and then off. Can't blame them, they must have a shocking headache from all the echo from the high ceilings!

The Great Dane, Barnsley

Not bad. Beers mainly good. There are sometimes a load of youngsters who cant take their booze screaming kareoke but the older people are nice and so are the landlord/lady.

The Cromwell Inn, Lychpit

I grew up close to this pub and it's improved a lot. But then when i grew up there was a fight there every saturday night!

The Star Castle Hotel, St Mary's

Based in a real, live castle dungeon, but the main attraction is Dave, the bar manager. He's got to be one of the most interesting, knowledgable men I've met, and a scouser to boot! I dare you to find something he knows nothing about. Go into the Dungeon Bar and backed up by resident scot Bill (who does a smashing job in the kitchen)he'll give you your very own one to one quiz with your local ale or wine. Worth the walk up the hill if you want a gorgeous view, a good chat with regional accents, and a good drink. (if Bill's there ask to see his photos, he takes one of the sunset and sunrise every day and they are supurb)
