The Moon on the Square, Feltham

Ebbadger-Eating lunch 5 times a week for 3 years in The Moon makes you A Record Breaker! You certainly deserve an award.Maybe Tim Martin will present you with The Grand Order of the Pancreas!Anyway you're right about the staff they are unfailingly pleasant & tables are never left with dirty plates or glasses on them. The ale is well kept too.The other thing I like about it is the toilets are upstairs.I've noticed in other branches where the toilets & the drinkers are in closer proximity a distinct whiff reminiscent of an old peoples home or continence clinic. That is manifestly not the case at The Moon for which we all give thanks.

The Bell and Crown, Chiswick

A whiff of cynicism as well as an all pervading aroma of kitchen smells hangs over this formerly pleasant West London boozer.Over 4 quid for a pint of pride but there seemed to be plenty of well heeled Chiswick types willing to pay the price. The emphasis is clearly on food & they seem determined to exploit their riverside location as ruthlessly as possible. It reeks of soullessness & greed.A metaphor for modern Britain perhaps but deeply depressing nevertheless.

The Three Horseshoes, Feltham

I popped into this establishment on a Saturday evening recently having imbibed elsewhere & in need of a nightcap. There was a birthday party in full er swing but the place was still open to others brave enough to chance their arm.A very intimidating atmosphere indeed. All eyes seemed to be upon me while I gulped my pint & I couldn't get out of there fast enough.A shame because the previous landlord had the place heading in the right direction. The recent closure of 'The Mansion' across the road bodes ill as some of the more unpleasant elements will no doubt migrate to 'TheThree Horseshoes'.Sadly this is currently one to avoid yet in the right hands it has much potential.

It's easy to poke fun at this place & I have been known to go for the cheap laugh myself in the past. It's true it does seem to function as some kind of DIGNITAS clinic with the added attraction of a curry club for some all day every day drinkers. That's the joke over.To be fair the staff & manager are friendly, the place is well run & ale quality very decent.I've never seen any actual bloodshed either. The food is fine too.Feltham is what it is & some of the punters do look a bit fruity but in my experience they don't actually bite. Most of them don't have teeth anyway.Ok that's two jokes.Overall it's not a bad pub.

St Georges Tavern (The Caxton), Wapping

Met a right auld slapper in here a few weeks ago.A red head by the name of Rebekha. She'd missed the last helicopter home to Chipping Norton, so she said.Classy broad.

Kings Head, Ashford

Went for lunch. We were early & I think only 2 tables had ordered food before us.We waited.........No food came out of the kitchen. We asked what was happening after 30mins & our scampi &chips arrived 40 mins after we ordered it.Not impressed really.the food was ok but nothing special. It was at least cheap.

Right.I went in yesterday at about 19:30 hours.Usual problem getting near enough to the bar to read the pump clips.eventually squeezed in.Lots of people waiting to be served but only 2 bar staff, 1 of whom was dealing with a large food order.I left without ordering after about 10 minutes.I've been in plenty of Weatherspoons pubs.some were dirty, some were like the green room for the Jeremy kyle show but they all had plenty of bar staff.

The Duke of York, Whitton

Passed this place around 7pm on a Sunday evening.A suitable place for a raid by Hounslow social services I'd say by the number of unpleasant looking women with small children, smoking & drinking outside.Others in the pub of school age.Ideal preparation for the school week ahead! This pub seems popular with the kind of people even the Jeremy Kyle show wouldn't allow through the door.

The Horse and Groom, Hanworth

Yes, a Tesco is rising from the ashes of this once great centre of chavery & anti social behaviour.A distinct lack of pubs in the area now.I suppose that will mean a rise in the local street drinking community.

The Swan, Hanworth

The local plod have finally called time on this centre of " community activity". Yes folks they've closed it down & the regular patrons will have to find somewhere else to wet their whistles whilst comparing notes on benefit fraud & other assorted criminality.Good riddance I hear the decent, God fearing residents of Hanworth cry!

The General Roy, Feltham

I thought I saw the 1st chav of Spring outside this place the other day.Bare chested & enjoying a pint of lager in the midday sunshine.I suspect the coalition government's plans to cut benefits might impact on the takings here. It's another example of George Osborne's failure to grip the micro economic impact of his war on benefit dependency. The pub shuts, becomes a crack den, cuts to police budgets mean the area becomes crime ridden etc.Do you follow my drift?

The Red Lion, Feltham

Chav central. It's a shame really because The Red Lion is one of the few buildings left in Feltham of any architectural note.

The Central Bar, Shepherds Bush

A major contribution to binge drinking culture & public urination in a vibrant part of West London.

a bit of a gem really.

A footnote. My own dear mother informs me she has taken luncheon here recently & that she enjoyed the experience.Praise indeed from a rather awkward customer i'd say.

The Fox and Hounds Restaurant & Bar, Englefield Green

Recently visited this place.been on my "to do" list for some time.arrived early for lunch with my aged parents & the place instantly felt more like a restaurant than a pub. That said the staff were friendly & polite.shortish bar menu, so we all went for fish & chips which was excellent. The interior is a bit modern, i was expecting a more traditional pubby feel. With the emphasis firmly on the food I would return perhaps with Mrs tramadol as part of her rehabilitation into the wider community.

The Three Horseshoes, Feltham

Recent visit confirmed the reported lack of real ale.Only Courage Best which i didn't try. That said there is a nice community friendly feel about the place & the lunchtime food is apparently popular.I spied none of the more unpleasant social elements that blight many of Feltham's places of public refreshment so that's a plus. There's much evidence of a well run pub really. It would be interesting to see if it could cross the real ale rubicon .A weekly guest ale as an experiment perhaps.

The Mansion, Feltham

A Gentlemans evening? It's not often I'm lost for words I can tell you.I admit that the licencees appear to be sweeping up out the front these days so less chance of the crunch of broken glass underfoot as you pass by.Credit where credits due.I take it that a Gentlemans evening, in this er context, involves some kind of after burger entertainment?Perhaps an amusing speaker only recently released from prison?More likely one of our local beauties in a display of exotic dancing.Well as long as the bounds of good taste & decency were observed by all concerned eh?

5 Feb 2011 19:39

Beehive, Bedfont

Recent visit pleasant.Very well kept beer.Loud piped misic a bit of a pain though.Bizarre mixture of 1970s tunes & more contemporary disco stuff.I'd have preferred no music really so I could have sipped my pride & thumbed my copy of
Health & efficiency in relative peace.Still a nice place for a decent pint though.

The Horse and Groom, Hanworth

I've heard it's re-opening as a tapas bar & community arts centre. There will be a performance space, a creche,& an outreach worker will be available for people with drug, alchohol or general issues around social integration.Vegetarian cookery classes, yoga, incontinence management workshops & darts. The Big Society comes to Hanworth!

On the subject of the Christmas eve disco I take it all back.no disco this year.I was able to pass the pub on my way home from the midnight service at St Dunstans church without witnessing any distressing scenes of drunkenness or outrageous chavery.Good show innkeeper!

The Swan, Hanworth

Mine hostess must be a tough old bird indeed.Eventually she might introduce real ale festivals, folk evenings & community theatre.Guardian readers will sit mulling over a pint of old scrotum on a Sunday afternoon without fear of attack. An up & coming chef will introduce a menu with gastro pub pretensions sparking an influx of middle class families to the area.hanworth will become a gentrified albeit slightly bohemian offshoot of Hampton with pressure from residents to be transfered from Hounslow Council to Richmond.Property prices will soar.Educational standards in the local primary schools will rise.I could go on & on but you get the picture.A miracle indeed.

The Moon on the Square, Feltham

Mad Dog, I'm pretty sure they weren't itinerent members of the international jet set staying at the travelodge in the interests of economy. As for shift workers, that may be a remote possibility I suppose.I am one meself by the way.I am aware that 'The Moon' is the nearest thing in Feltham to 'cafe society'& I am determined to make this pub my local in order to raise the tone a bit. This won't be easy but I owe it to the wider community to try.

The Swan, Hanworth

The local press reports that the manager has been arrested & remanded in custody by Feltham magistrates.Allegedly the local constabulary discovered a number of mail bags full of letters & parcels. It could be that the boys in blue have made a terrible mistake & that the locals have been collecting toys to distribute among the disadvantaged children in the community. We can but hope.

The Lemon Arms, Mylor Bridge

Very nice pub, well kept st austell ales, enjoyable reasonably priced meals. This place manages to cater for locals & holidaymakers without short changing either group of customers.Nice to see a thriving village pub with a warm welcome for visitors.

The Mansion, Feltham

Some of the sights i've seen on the pavement outside this place over the years are enough to persuade even the staunchest boozer of the benefits of temperence. They have a particularly appalling Christmas eve discotheque which spills out onto the adjacent green.I witnessed a young woman swearing & shouting at her gentleman friend at half past midnight one year while he threatened to kill her.The really sad thing about this spectacle was the small child crying in the buggy she was pushing.Nuff said.

The Castle, Harrow On The Hill

Vsited this establishment on a busy Saturday afternoon recently.A very nice interior but my initial positive impression was ruined by the inordinate wait for service at the bar.Only one young woman was serving although there were plenty of other(young) staff mooning around the place aimlessly. The place has gastro-pub aspirations methinks & the food I sampled was ok but nowt to shout about.Fullers ales were in very good nick though.

Visited this pub several times recently & have received a friendly welcome on each occasion.Fullers ales in excellent condition.Overall it appears to be a well run fullers local. One criticism though is the apparent tolerance of a great deal of very loud effin & blindin by a couple of "geezers" at the bar.And i do mean loud.An otherwise pleasant experience though. On balance this is probably the best pub in the Feltham/Bedfont area.

The Moon on the Square, Feltham

I was encouraged to visit this establishment recently due to it's inclusion in The good Beer Guide. The beer festival seemed the best time so I ventured forth in search of high quality alchoholic refreshment & stimulating conversation.I'd previously been put off visiting The Moon by the grotesque spectacle of men, clearly of working age, swilling stella at 9o'clock in the morning as i'd passed by on my way to work.Perhaps, I thought, they may be excellent fellows after all & we may have more in common than I'd imagined.First impressions were not good.It was impossible to view the selection of ales available due to the number of foul mouthed knuckle dragging sociopaths crowding around the bar.I chose a beer i could see took it to a table & sipped it.Vinegar.I chose not to brave the massed ranks of the local intelligentsia by returning it to mine hostess & simply made my excuses &left.Unpleasant.
