Glad to say the Gate is now in GBG. 4 ales available on my visit all in excellent condition. Smart interior and nice woodburner to keep the chill out on what was the coldest weekend of the year. Will return to sample the beer festival next year

Well Wolvesfan I am a CAMRA member but I have neither a beard or a pair of sandals. I love Hopback ales and the Wyndham Arms. Each to his own eh?

The Winchester Gate, Salisbury
Was here over the bank holiday and enjoyed the beer festival and BBQ. Lots of live music as well from folk to ska to thrash metal.Oh to be able to live in Salisbury in a house situated between the Winchester Gate and the Wyndham Arms! Marvellous!

The Victoria and Albert, Netherhampton
Well worth the walk from Salisbury. Friendly welcome, 3 ales all in excellent condition and a real cider as well. Sat in the spacious garden and enjoyed a filling lunch. Re the signage - most of it that I saw was very "tongue in cheek" and even if it wasn't , sadly there are many people these days who do need to be reminded of how to behave in a public house

Also retreated to the Bricklayers after visiting the White Horse last saturday.
A fairly regular haunt for me and never been disappointed.3 ales from Thwaites on as well as the TT range. As others have mentioned the beer festivals here are always well attended and well worth a visit

The White Horse, Parsons Green
Attended the American beer festival at the weekend. Some excellent ales at some eye watering prices! Nice location and was very busy.
Scissorkicks - I think I also saw the person you are talking about :-)

The Buckingham Arms, Westminster
Oh dear Youngs what have you done to this once great pub? Have to agree with many comments below. The refurb just hasn't worked has it? A real shame

Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon
The people of South Wimbledon are very lucky to have the Traf and the Sultan within a few minutes walk of each other. The Hophead in here was in fantastic nick as was the seasonal Winter Meltdown.

Excellent pub.Very welcoming on a cold January day.Extra points for having Entire Stout on draught

Would loved to have spent some time in here and tried some of their beer but unfortunately they refused to serve us because we didn't want to eat.

A great find and well worth the trip away from the main tourist areas.Spent a pleasant couple of hours in here during the afternoon so was relatively quiet. Will definitely return.

Forget the "speciality" beers and stick to the Klassic light and dark beers.Ghoulash and dumplings were delicious.I even bought a t-shirt.

Hostinec U Cerneho Vola, Prague
A great little pub close to the castle. We sat at a table with people from France,Belgium,Romania and some locals all enjoying a chat over a few beers. The European Parliament should send a few MEP's here. They may learn a thing or two!!

....But that's the point anonymous it isn't a "bog standard west end boozer" which is why it has rave reviews and is rated highly on this website. Most west end boozers are expensive, serve average quality ale and usually have several bouncers on the door!!This pub in no way falls into that category.

Was in Winchester for a couple of days and visited a few of it's pubs of which this was the best.5 different ales being served including Summer Lightning (so extra point awarded).Could spend hours just looking at the decor and bits and pieces that hand from the ceiling and walls. Will definitely vist again.

The Salisbury, Leicester Square
The young camra collective below have got it about right. There are several comments about how busy and crowded it gets which is true but then who wants to sit in an empty pub?
24 Apr 2006 20:41
I think the positive comments below say it all.Pity that it is closed at the weekend but do yourself a favour and take a day off work and spend a few hours of it in here.

The Jolly Farmer, Cookham Dean
Quite difficult to get to if no ones driving but well worth the effort.Attended the St.George's weekend beer festival and sampled 8 of the 12 ales on offer. They all tasted pretty good to me.Plenty of seating outside which was much appreciated on probablt the first warm day of the year.A must visit if you are in the area.

Great little pub.Has Harveys and Black Sheep as regular ales so you can't really go wrong.
21 Mar 2006 13:04
Spent a weekend in Salisbury this summer and most of that weekend was spent in this pub.Friendly staff and customers with the added bonus of having the full Hopback range on tap.Summer Lightning must be one of the finest beers ever brewed.
Will return to Salisbury again as apparently there is a cathedral there as well!!

The George, Great Portland Street
Fine pub and a haven away from the madness that is Oxford Street.Always a good atmosphere when the big rugby internationals are on.

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross
A bit difficult to find at first but well worth the effort.Beer is always on form and the staff friendly and polite. The smaller bar is open as well at busier times.

27 Dec 2004 11:07
More of a locals pub as it is a little off the main tourist track but none the worse for that.Great jukebox!
27 Dec 2004 11:04
Has made it in to the 2005 Good Beer Guide and rightly so.Ever changing selection of real ales to choose from and polite, friendly staff.
