The Haymakers, Chesterton

One of Cambridge's most popular local music venues.

The Minster Tavern, Ely

Handy for the cathedral and has 2 cosy chairs (grab 'em while you can) and a large eating area. Not that I'd recommend eating here. The food is terrible which is down to the cook/chef as it seems they are run by the same company as The Mitre in Cambridge, with the same menu but not a patch that pub's food.

The Mill, Cambridge

Love this pub. Bit of a trek from the city centre but worth it. Great in summer 'cos every other idiot sits outside by the river and we're guaranteed a seat inside watching them. Great atmos, just a lovely, old pub inside.

The Mitre, Cambridge

Always pop in here most times I'm in Cambridge. Used to have a nice, almost gothic interior, since changed, which is a shame. Expensive but nice food. Very nice atmos, view of the main street is nice if you can grab a seat.

The Cow, Cambridge

Haven't been in here for a while, though it had just had a refurb last time. Downstairs club-style area, loud music, very student, youth-oriented. OK if you're not too old. Like me.

The Bath House, Cambridge

Lively, mixed crowd, a lot of students (not a problem for me,) very friendly staff. Angle of the plasma screen from the wall could be slightly adjusted towards the rest of the pub. Have to deduct 1 point for that.

The Baron of Beef, Cambridge

Nice. Haunted. Would have rated it 9 but the bar girl hit my head with a pint glass last time we were there. Won't hold it against her though...

Acre, March

As far as pubs in March go, this must be the best, or at least the least worst! Down to Earth clientle but all very friendly, been there most weekends in the last year and never, ever seen any hint of trouble which is more than I can say for any pub back in London. It is fairly central and the Stars has a better atmosphere but of course the latter is too far away to walk.

Georges, March

Dreary, depressing decor (if you can call it that). Rough and ready. Avoid unless you have friends there. If you do then you probably can't read this anyway...

The The Stars, March

Nice little pub. Bit cramped inside but I wouldn't go there on a busy night anyway. Food is OK, plentiful at least. Very friendly. Not too many pubs in March, the only reason we don't go to this one that often is it halfway out of town.

Eraina Taverna, Cambridge

We went in here yesterday for my birthday as we'd noticed this little "Greek" restaurant years ago but always walked by. My expectations were of something akin to the standard of Greek food in Germany, where Greek Tavernas are everywhere, prices (and Ouzo) are cheap and the food is great and plentiful.

This place however, is a joke. Tatty furniture, miserable staff and a "mixed grill" comprising: 2 lightly cooked rashers of bacon, a small of piece of lambs liver, a dry sausage, a BOILED chicken leg and 5 measly chips! ("They're thickly cut," the waitress said after I complained...
