The Crown Inn, Oxford

Much improved after refurbishment. Beers have been fine whenever I have tried them and a decent selection too. Eaten there also with family and found food perfectly acceptable.

Usually always a safe bet. Beer always in good condition whenever I have been in. Nice decor.....perhaps a few question marks on the hugh black and white photograph of the pub in a previous life showing 1977 punks enjoying a beer in the sun which is an unmissable feature point on the wall in the main bar.

The Ampleforth Arms, Headington

Visited this pub once and a while during the summer, (2009). I did see an improvement since the new management had taken over. The placed had been referbushed. Occasional live band, plus the real ale, (Bombadier), was usually in faily good condition. Also served Spitfire plus one other ale. You get the feeling that the pub may face tough times ahead as there appeared to be some difficulity pulling punters in.

Yes, agree with the last two comments. Let's see what happens when the new managers take over.

Britannia Inn, Headington

Would agree it can be difficult to get served and quality of beer can vary, but in my experience the staff here have no quarms in changing a pint if asked. Another point to mention is the fairly regular sight of an unsual guest beer. Beer prices very reasonable. All in all, not a bad place.

The Six Bells, Headington

Used to pop in for an occasional pint on a Saturday night. Okay for a quiet beer, if you do not mind the plasma screen and music. Think I only seen the place well populated on one occasion. The Abbot Ale used to be in fairly good condition. Was obvious the management tried to push the food angle, which although always looked good, never seemed to pull the punters in.

The Chequers Inn, Headington

Been reopened quite a while now. Usually have one ale on. The Abbot, when it was on, used to be in very good condition. But had a few disappointing pints of various beers on my last few visits. Not sure what the future holds, as whenever I pass by, usually on a Saturday night, the place seems almost empty. Does get more populated when bands occassionaly play there.

Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford

Had half a dozen beers or so on tap. Beer tried was in good condition, noted most of the beer was in the 3.5 percent strength, which was a little unusual. Maybe it was a one-off. Quite a smokey atmosphere early Saturday evening...then again that will not be a problem after 1 July 2007.

Nice pub, good beer. Can be a little difficult to find a seat during busy periods.
