The Parrot Inn, Shalford

Good food, good beer and very lovely garden but in serious need of interior update.

The Refectory, Godalming

I took my family there for a lunch time meal and there were only a handful of cars in the car park. We got shown to a table and a drinks order was taken. There was only three other tables in the whole place, with 5 members of staff on. So we thought we would get a good service as it was quiet......WRONG!!! Everything took so long to get to our table even the ordering. None of the staff are friendly with no smiles or good communication.

When we finally got are meal it was not bad for a microwave job! The desserts were ordered and my wife had the strawberry mess which the cream was totally off! I complained about the cream but i never got a apology or explanation. So with that we paid our bill and left. FOR GOOD!!!

On a positive side, its a lovely building which is clean and spacious with a good garden, just such a shame about the staff and food.

The Cyder House Inn, Shackleford

Found this pub by accident and thought i would stop for a drink with my wife. Not exactly a country pub for a pub in the country! sounds silly, no? It Sounds and looks like they have only just opened but was not busy for a sunday afternoon. We sat outside on the terrace as it was a hot afternoon i had a pint of tanglefoot and my wife had a G+T, my pint was fine but not very cold for a bitter ( could of been the first pint out for the afternoon) . I hate it when pubs don't serve a G+T right, what i mean by right is by putting lots of ice in a long glass not 2 cubes in a whisky glass! While we sat outside we noticed the most annoying fan which hums for ages which spoils the peace and quiet of the country side.

Overall i think it's sweet but i think it belongs in the centre of london where it would fit in selling jigsaw shortbread and funny righting on all the mirrors and windows. A bit pretentious!

The Inn On The Lake, Godalming

Wow, this place is stunning when you first walk in.....that's it!

The menu is very limited, nobody knows what they are doing, it's such a shame that these big company's spend on refurbishments but they always leave out the fundamentals of good service a good food.

Need to spend more money on staff training and SMILE!!! It's not hard.

Bel and The Dragon, Godalming

I came to this place when it first opened and it was the hottest place in town, you could not fault it. But a few years on and what can i say! it has not moved on with the times, the food is the same if anything they have got lazy and sloppy. I booked a table for valentines and when we got there they did nothing special on the tables or the music, the lighting was bright and stark which created no atmosphere. The food was below par and when it came to pay they really did not care for my money, i could have walked out without paying easily!

I wont be going back unless they change the concept, menu, staff and lighting!

The Squirrel at Hurtmore, Hurtmore

A very interesting pub, a traditional good old English pub with a very good selection of lager and an ever changing range of bitters. The meal i had was delicious, better than most chain restaurants in the area which the food is all pre packed!

The staff were very friendly and seemed to have good knowledge of what they were serving. I had my 2 year old daughter with me and she loved the owners vine runner 'casper'. which kept her quiet while we ate our lunch.

All in all a very friendly place and great to take little ones, will be back very soon,
