The Great Eastern, Isle of Dogs

This is a million times better since it re-opened.

The old Waterman's Arms before it closed down was un-welcoming and seemed to be full of the same old faces that were mates of the owners/people who run it (always a bad sign).

The new Great Eastern is far more welcoming, has a good vibe and atmosphere to it and is open to suggestions made by their customers if within reason. You get those who liked their status quo and ask for hooks on the bar again (like that is the most important part of a pub) and resist change but the fact is the old pub closed down because it was not making good business (and drugs I heard).

The pub sells pizza as food, this pub came about ten years too late for me when I would go out for a drink and want a pizza on the way home but I can't blame them for that... or can I?

Great little local... The staff are friendly, helpful, make time to talk to you and get to know you and the girls are pretty hot too ;-)

... but please update the jukebox more! :-)

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

The outdoors is an improvement.... Only problem I really have with this place is they have a jukebox so as crazy s this may sound why not let the public choose the music they want to listen to at weekends instead of the same old generic crap that plays every Friday and Saturday.

The Hayfield, Stepney Green

Ideas far above their station, new ideas including 5 entry fee for non-students (you know the people actually have money) and you must have a photo ID to get in, I wonder what kind of person would carry a photo ID with them on a night out? A student maybe... Thought I had taken a wrong turn and ended up in the West End at that price to get in and requirements.
Real shame but this place has turned it's back on locals and regulars.

The White Hart, Whitechapel

A lot better than it was a year or so ago when it was full of chavs but still lacks something.

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

Everything that has been said is true and to charge 3 quid a pint in Whitechapel is ridiculous! The decline started 3 or 4 years ago and it has not improved since the guy who use to run it bought it and if anything it has got worse (which I didn't think was possible).

If I am gonna pay 3 quid a pint then I expect a lot more than what they offer... there is no entertainment on a weekend!

The guy needs to make some major changes but it might be beyond help now.

The Approach Tavern, Bethnal Green

A great pub with a good atmosphere. Sunday lunch is absolutely delicious.

I would suggests trying it!

The Match Maker, Bow

As someone said before a lot of trouble there at weekends... why do they insist on letting these youngsters get drunk on hooch just to make a quick buck!

The Fine Line, Canary Wharf

Didn't feel comfortable at all as full of a load of money motivated morons going on about their money... there are more important things in life!

Expensive

The George, Soho

This was ok but it was fairly cramped so had to keep moving whenever someone went a toilet... not layed out very well at all.

The White Hart, Whitechapel

Last time I went this pub it was full of Chavs (who by the way never seem to be actually drinking) and was going down hill fast. A lot of people had coke and not the drinking kind so not good to be in at all.

Apparently it has been taken over again as the last manager was terrible so it might improve, if only the Blind Beggar across the road would do the same!

I gave it a score of 1 and that was just because they do sell beer!

The Ledger Building, Canary Wharf

Good place to start your night.

Can be a bit annoying as no music so all you here is a load of people all chatting at once which can be an annoying sound!

The Cat And Canary, Canary Wharf

A good place to go to watch the football at Canary Wharf.

An old fashioned pub with decent drinks and a quieter atmosphere if your not in the mood for the lively bars across the water!!

The Hayfield, Stepney Green

probably the best pub in the area.

Has become the unofficial student bar and has a good vibe about the place. Good for the football as has two big screens (unless game is in daylight when one screen as literally unwatchable).

I would recommend checking out the place as it is probably the coolest place to go.

The Half Moon, Stepney Green

Good place to start a night out as cheap and quiet. Gets very busy on a Friday... unfortunately quite a few obvious under-age people in there but they seem to be served!

LHT Urban Bar, Whitechapel

Has its moments but not great really. Open late but is expensive as someone has already pointed out.

A few years ago this was a good little pub with a good buzz about it, decent music and a selection of fit girls behind the bar but then things went badly wrong.

The bloke "in charge" decided the place should become a tacky theme pub of the Krays with pictures all over the gaff. To top it off there is even pictures near the pool table of the manager with a wannabe gangster group with things written underneath like "Be Lucky".

It has really gone down hill and is now in administration. Which they use as an excuse for everything... toilets are disgusting, have no lighting and stink to high heaven but they can't do anything about it because of "we are in administration".

In other words I wouldn't put myself out if I was you!
