The Shooting Star, Southampton

A decent pub. Friendly staff and locals, beer is generally well kept. Open until midnight, 2am Friday and Saturday. Quiet some nights, busy others.

Poletrix, Southampton

This has now changed hands (and been renamed Aqua Lounge) and gone downhill. It's now 5 to get in (although they have dropped the 5 fee to go to the "private" area upstairs), all the windows are blacked out so you can't see what it's like inside before paying, the drinks are all now bottles (rather than draft) and very expensive and to top it all off the barman tried to short-change me.

Emporium, Fleet

Had a good night here on Saturday. Friendly staff and customers, music and drinks were fine. This was our first visit to Fleet, but would definitely return to The Emporium.

The Square, Southampton

Gets worse and worse. Always understaffed and the bar staff generally aren't very good. Takes ages to get served and there's usually lots of empty "glasses" and spilt beer on the bar. I say glasses but they're actually plastic. Gents toilets are an absolute health hazard. Plus points are the location, the sheer size of the place, the customers (lots of scantily clad young ladies) and the fact that drinks are cheap.

The Victory, Hamble

My favourite pub in Hamble. Definitely the friendliest and quickest bar staff - you'll very rarely be kept waiting in the Vic. A reasonably selection of well-kept ales and good food at a reasonable price. A fairly large pub with a separate dining area as well so often less crowded than some of the others nearby.

Boomerang, Hamble

The bar is OK and this becomes Hamble's only nightclub at the weekend. Can be unbearably noisy if you're eating in the restaurant and the bar is busy. Very warm welcome but no real ale.

Painters Arms, Portsmouth

Always entertaining! Staff friendly, locals OK when they're sober and hilarious when they're not.

The Harrier Inn, Hamble

The only pub at this end of Hamble. The best Sunday roasts around and decent beer.

The King and Queen, Hamble

Probably the worst bar staff in Hamble, they (with one or two exceptions) would rather talk to their friends or each other than serve customers. They claim "probably the best roast dinners in Hamble" but in truth they are without doubt the worst - usually overcooked mush and roast spuds full of grease but it has to be said that they are possibly the cheapest in Hamble. There is a good selection of real ale although I have been served some dodgy ones (so I'm not too sure about the cellar keeping). Not a bad pub by any means but there are others nearby it that I like better.

The Bugle, Hamble

Surprising pricey considering the amount competition in the same street. Getmeonein isn't wrong about loud-mouthed boat people shouting at the tops of their voices after a couple of pints. Not a particularly great selection of ales (choice of three, only one of which is often any good). On the bright side the food is always nice, the staff reasonably friendly (albeit a bit slow) and the pub itself is terrific.

Ye Olde White Hart, Hamble

Very friendly staff, quaint historic building and a selection of decent ale. Excellent food though not particularly cheap. Especially love their English breakfasts. Does get busy sometimes and the bar area is fairly small. Great for a pub crawl as there are so many other pubs and bars just a minute's walk down the hill and there's an Indian restaurant almost opposite.

Poletrix, Southampton

Small pole dancing club/pub. Cheap beer, sexy pole dancers, friendly staff and customers, free entry, no dress code, late closing. What more could you want? Even took my daughter here.

The Guide Dog, Bevois Valley

Really nice local. Apparently likely to change hands soon, more's the pity.

The Bent Brief, Southampton

Smelly and dirty. My friend actually got bitten by a flea in this place. Apparently they do food now. Scary.
