Foresters, Hampton Wick

Bit harsh. It''s nice, cosy local with good stuff going on. The only downside is no decent garden. Good selection of beer. You can stay there and there''s a good restaurant bit

The Duke of Wellington, Bedfont

I know: Heathrow pub- pile of old horse manure- right? Well, yes and no. Yes the beer is rank, badly kept etc. But if you''re prepared to drink bottled beers or spirits, the food is out of this world. It''s a basic rough old place and in the middle of nowhere but scrape a couple of friends together, order mixed grill starter, butter chicken, chilli paneer and a few ice cold becks and an uber home and you''ll be in heaven, my friend.

NB. No decent beer

The Guy Fawkes Hotel, York

Stayed here in July (2017): great place very friendly owners/ managers at the moment.good breakfast. Good room. Fantastic welcome and you can''t beat the location. Always a winner. And Guido Fawkes was born here- you want history, I got history!

The Habit, York

Best bar in York, bar none, if you''ll pardon the pun. I''m from London (yes, I know) and I''ve been to the Habit four times in the last ten years or so. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere, loads of space. Great food, great beer, great people. Superb.

Waterloo Tap, Waterloo

A fair enough place to escape a billion tourists swarming across the south bank. Barman, at least the one who served me, colder than a deep freezed sociopath. Some decent ale. I''m a lager person so Bernard and bit burger available. Other stuff: Sierra Nevada, Darkstar, Kervel etc.

It''s not extortionate, considering it''s the heart of London, and gets better, and quieter as the night wears on.

Small with outside areas. In summary: okay.
