The Badachro Inn, Badachro

Visited this pub twice within the same week. Deuchers IPA was good and the Caledonian 80/- even better. This place is a gem and our party (after visiting a number of pubs in the area during the course of the week) agreed that it was the best by far: beer at the right temperature and excellent food served either in a cosy bar of from the adjacent dining room which has a delightful view over the bay. Friendly and enthusiastic staff. Highly recommended.

Horse and Farrier Inn, Threlkeld

I have visited this pub a few times over the past 18 months and on all occasions I have found the Jennings beers very drinkable, the staff friendly and the bar food good value. It is comfortable and cosy - nice bits of old panelling and stone flag floors. Also dog friendly. Good place to come after a hard day on the fells!

The Watermill Inn, Ings

Have visited this pub twice this year and agree the beer brewed on the premises is excellent. Plenty of information at the bar about the flavours, strengths and origins of the beers on sale. Nice welcome for dogs (ours was given a few dog biscuits as we tucked into our pints). Not too sure about the food: last week we paid 12.95 each for a lamb tagine which was just some over sweetened fatty lamb stew served with rice which brings the rating down a bit. Pity.

The Langdon Beck Hotel, Forest-in-Teesdale

Visited this pub for the first time after walking to High Cup Nick and back. Perfect end to a brilliant day. Unpretentious, cosy and with excellent beer (Rivet Catcher and a new Black Sheep product called Golden Sheep). Also our party of four enjoyed our meals - (very spicy beef Madras). All served by friendly, interested staff. Looking forward to making my next visit.

The Shoulder of Mutton Inn, Kirby Hill

This pub serves consistently excellent beer. The owners show real interest in serving a variety of beers which change regularly. Hostess always friendly and efficient. Good for an evening meal either bar or restaurant but it is wise to book.

The Wasdale Head Inn, Wasdale Head

What a fantastic location! With such a super location this place should everything going for it. The beer was great but the staff attitude (apart from one person) was abysmal. They seem to hate their customers. We have since discovered that they are notoiously unhelpful, and unfriendly and have developed this into an art form. Apparently the manager is under notice to quit but as this may take a year don't expect things to get any better soon. The food we had (Sunday evening 20April was good). Why do people like this work in pubs?
