Black Horse, Pluckley

There is something very odd about this place. It is an extremely attractive and interesting building with a big garden with shade and sun available in the summer. In the village centre but a quiet location betwixt the church and the 2 village shops. Setting is very pretty. The history and alleged ghostly past puts it firmly on the tourist trail as does the Dalring Buds of May tie in. You would think with all this going for that it would be a welcoming pub with good food and beer but it isnt. The staff are at best disintered and at worst downright surly. It was so bad i abandoned my plans to eat, enjoyed an OK pint in the pleasant garden and moved on.

The Dering Arms, Pluckley

Ummm - difficult one this. I loved the food - excellent quality and very well presented. Not cheap but i think hideously expensive is an exageration. Not really a drinking pub - small bars and very loacl clientele - it felt a bit cliquey and as an outsider I felt like an intruder in the bar. Not so in the restaurant where we were looked after very well. Dering Ale was excellent even if the atmosphere (perhaps it was me) spoilt it slightly. Can only suggest this is is a place you have to try for yourself and if you are after great food it is has got to be on your list.

The Mundy Bois, Pluckley

I have known this pub for nearly 17 years. It used to be a welcoming enough drinking pub without being in any way exceptional but the food was. It has unfortunatley gone down hill in a big way. the retaurant is shabby, the food dire and the service worse. It is just possible that if you have a young family and are looking for a pretty refreshment spot in the summer that having a drink the garden is OK but that I am afraid is it. Terrible shame.

The George Inn, Egerton

I have visited this pub oin several occasions and it is fair to say it has more than one personality! The main bar area is frequented by locals - pretty much an older set of couples and at weekend lunchtimes families out for a pub lunch. There is a separate area with a pool table and TV where major football matches are shown. This is used predominatley by a younger set - still very much locals. There is a further area set side as a restaurant. The main pub area is very warm and welcoming. The area with the pool table is less welcoming and a bit noisier. The restaurant is pleasant enough although i personally do not like the decor. The food is above average without being stunning. It is however good value and with a new chef the quality has improved a notch. The beer is well kept but as another reviewer has said not an imaginative range. The Harveys is excellent (OK it is a favourite of mine).
This pub serves a diverse community, younger and older and wlakers in the summer and does it pretty well.
