The Uxbridge Arms, Notting Hill

Parochial locals bar where they will serve the regulars, or people they recognise, first even though you are the only other person waiting and there are two bar staff on. I moved to the area recently (Behind High St Ken tube station, so a bit of a walk) and was looking for a local. This most certainly is not going to be it. Hopefully this one will follow the 15 or so other bars a week that are calling last orders for the final time.

The Churchill Arms, Kensington

Been in here once a week for the past month. Why this bar is in the Good Beer Guide is beyond me. Whichever cask beer I have tried has barely managed to to even qualify as average.
The staff are barely competent. Despite there usually being several of them, they are always tripping over each other and have no idea who is next to be served.
The Thai food is good though, even if the menu is a little limited, but this is a pub after all and not a restaurant.
If you like Thai food, don't mind poor service from the bar and are happy to drink anything other than cask beer, this might be the bar for you, otherwise look elsewhere, but be careful, service is not great in this area, full stop.

The Bulls Head, Reigate

Lazy & disinterested staff. Don't bother trying to drink here if there are more than half a dozen people in the bar.

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Getting a decent real ale here is always very hit & miss. Sometimes there is only the one on, some times there are a few on but the beer is undrinkable. Last night was a pleasant exception as I had a decent pint of Pilgrim Progress. What are the chances that this will continue?

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

You have to wonder about some pubs and their beer policies. Last night was probably one of their busiest for a while given the all the publicity for the 20 bands in 20 pubs event that was taking place in Reigate & Redhill. This pub often has four different real ales on, but tonight there was only one, the awesome (not) Bombardier. Eventually an equally unexciting beer, Sharps Doombar came on. This was an opportunity for the Red Cross to sell its beer credentials to a wider audience, and I suppose in a way it did, it's just those beer credentials are not very highly rated.
