The Priory, Clerkenwell

I thought everyone must be posting about a different Priory, but no. Clearly there are lots of people who think overpriced gassy lager and supermarket wine are the cornerstone of a good pub. There tends to be one actual beer on tap - they vary it from time to time - but it's often undrinkable as they seemingly have no idea how to look after it. Given the number of great pubs in the area I'm amazed this place can keep going - I guess the lowest common denominator works for them.

The Leamington, Acton

What a dump. I can undertsand why the locals all sit at the bar - the other seating is filthy. On the plus side, the landlord is very friendly and welcoming, but it's a shame there are no decent beers available - just an okay Guinness and lots of carbonated cat's urine passing itself off as branded lager. They've started a quiz night to try to attract more people in but they'd be better off getting the basics right first.

The Redback, Acton

The sooner this place gets hit by lightning and razed to the ground the better. I can't think of anything that would make this place worse, nor can I understand how it retains its licence. Horrible.

The George And Dragon, Acton

The best pub in Acton by far (ok, that might not be saying much!). Excellent beers - especially the HSB - and seems to avoid the lunatic clientele that its local competitors attract. There's a great quiz on a Monday night too, with revised prizes of 40 and 20 bar tabs to the top two teams, plus cash prizes between rounds. Recommended.

The Rocket, Acton

A good selection of beers available but I'm surprised to read they often run out on a Friday as the last couple of times I went in there I was served short measures, and when I asked for the pint to be topped up it was done very grudgingly. Won't be going back.

The Three Kings, Clerkenwell

Good beer, nice fire in winter and the cat does his rounds occasionally. Recommended.

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Excellent beers in a friendly, cosy pub. The food is good too.

The Mill Hill, Acton

Don't even think of getting served here unless you've been a regular for years - the staff simply ignore you. Horrible, horrible, horrible pub.
