The George, Croydon

Visited this place on a late Friday afternoon, before catching a train to Brighton. We had fish and chips and a glass each of pinot grigio. Found the service to be really good, as was the food. Bit crowded, but it was a Friday. Decided to stay a bit longer and caught a later train - prices for Heineken lager very reasonable for a South London pub. Really good atmosphere. Will definitely return.

The Crowborough Cross, Crowborough

Visited this place on a weekday afternoon May 2017. J D Wetherspoon have taken this over. Need to do a lot better. The staff need to take more interest in serving customers and also clearing tables of clutter. Ordered fish and chips for two with glasses of white wine. Not the best by any means. Will not be back.

The George Inn, Littlehampton

Had some time to spare before catching the train late on Sunday evening.
Ordered a pint of Stongbow and a glass of Pinot Grigio.
This was the first visit for a number of years. Place much improved, staff quite friendly, and the Wetherspoon burger list looks ok - will try next time

The Royal George, Shoreham by Sea

If you are looking for a meal, don't bother with this carvery style pub. Staff not interested in providing any kind of proper service. Food served barely warm, with the cauliflower "rock hard" The Crown Carvery have much better outlets elsewhere, such as Brighton Withdean, Peacehaven and Saltdean. This appears to be a place that they and time have forgot about.

The Old Plough, Seaford

This pub has had a makeover this year. Pity they did not give the landlord a makeover at the same time. Still creeps around, and does not appear to have any gratitude for the customers, even if you have a bottle of wine with your meals. Cannot fault the bar staff though. Food is bland, prices have gone up. Better value at the Crown Carvery places.

The West Quay, Brighton

Visited this place with my wife last Friday - around 6pm. Took a table upstairs. We both had the salmon fillet from the main menu, and shared a bottle of white wine. I was offered an ice bucket, but said no as the wine was cold enough. Good meal, served with a jacket potato and salad. Very comfortable surroundings, will definitely go again.

The John Logie Baird, Hastings

Went there on a Friday afternoon, had fish and chips from the Fish Friday menu,
from a choice of one item (?) Can't Wetherpoons offer scampi and chips?
Food was fresh and ok, white wine acceptable.
Service was prompt and much quicker than a previous occasion.
Bit noisy, which was strange as it was a bit early for the local chavs.
Apart from that, it was ok.

The Devils Dyke Hotel, Brighton

Visited this place after a walk around Devils Dyke. Beer prices average, with seating inside and outside. However. lots of uncollected glasses and bottles outside, and inside grubby, sticky and dusty tables. Decided not to eat there.

The Old Plough, Seaford

I need to return to make a new comment on this pub.
My wife visited there with a friend for a meal last week. She could not finish the food, it was not prepared properly. It seemed to be a similar experience to the one we had last August. Compared to The Old Boot pub in Seaford, the drink prices, including the house white wine are very reasonable. However, the pub needs a facelift. It is looking shabby. The service to the table can irritate, as they keep asking if everything is all right - do you need anything else - etc.
This pub appears to have had better days - recommend going elsewhere.

I went there on Sunday to try their Sunday Roast Club menu. It was before 5pm.
Their were a number of dirty tables and half eaten food scattered around various tables. The only roast available was the beef. I should not have bothered. It was barely warm, the meat was thin cut, the potatoes (Aunt Bessie) ? were small and the broccoli and carrots barely edible. It is suggested that, for food, just stick to the beer / burger offer, of a curry on a Thursday.

The Bright Helm, Brighton

Went there last Wednesday to try their Chicken Club menu. Wish I had not bothered. Went the chicken breast came, tit was with an apology for a salad. You would not serve the lettuce to a tortoise! As for atmosphere, it was non-existent.
Suggest try Yates or the other Spoons Pub - The Post & Telegraph.
They appear to have changed the appearance of the upper level to make it look like a student canteen. At least the Post & Telegraph in North Street looks like a traditional pub

The Saltdean Tavern, Saltdean

Cheaper wine and beer, but visited late Monday afternoon. We had a carvery meal (1) roast turkey and (1) roast pork. Place not busy, did not expect to be, but take it or leave it style of service, ran out of yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes too hard. But, the worst of it was that when we finished our meals, the plates remained uncollected. Staff were not rushed off their feet, being a Monday. However, the gents loo was in a poor condition. The soap dispenser was broken. Will not be back

Visited this pub on a late Sunday afternoon. Have been here before on numerous occasions. One of the better run Wetherspoons. Plenty of seating, good beer selection and reasonable prices. The only disappointment was the steak and kidney pudding meal fron the menu. Although served hot, the pastry on the pie was on the hard side. If you eat in these Wetherspoon run pubs, either have a curry with your drink, or the beer and a burger deal. Forget about the rest of it.

The Royal Pavilion Tavern, Brighton

Visited this pub late Tuesday afternoon. Not very busy, but it was a quiet time anyway. Guinness was ok, but this pub need a complete overhall. The gents loo was disgusting, no paper towels and the smell of the urinals crept out and into the pub. The tables were sticky. I would not eat here if it was free!
Will not return

The Bright Helm, Brighton

This is one of the better Wetherspoon run pubs. It has been refurbished in the last year. Don't go Friday and Saturday nights - too busy. With a Wetherspoon pub, my advice with the food is to have a curry and a drink on a Thursday, or a beer/burger deal on other days.

Staff are polite, but seem slow in clearing plates and glasses off the tables.

The Old Boot, Seaford

This pub looks ok on the outside, and there is plenty of room inside.
However, it is an expensive place to drink, and he food is tasteless and bland.
Go by the name, and give it the boot!

The Old Plough, Seaford

I like this pub, being close to the rail station, the food is good, and is served hot. Beer is reasonably priced. The landlord does not say much to any visitors, but so what?

23 Dec 2011 13:25

The Coronet, Holloway

Until Wetherspoons change their attitude towards the Traveller Community,
I for one will not go in. Nice pub, but we are in the 21st century, and the UK is a country that welcomes people from all backgrounds, etc.
Unless anyone causes trouble within a pub they should be welcome, whoever they are.

22 Dec 2011 13:18

The Opera House, Tunbridge Wells

Curry on a Thursday is ok, so is the Beer and a Burger offer
The rest of the menu? Don't bother? Sunday lunch roast is never served hot!
