The Regent, Balham

I eould be a bit suspicious of comment below, and no not because its a woman talking about football but because it reads like a total advert and the poster has made no other reviews. RIP the tup - decent beer and loads of rugby.

this place just seems like such a bland replacement perfectly pitched for the boring balham professional couples who wouldn't know a good night out if it slapped them across the face. wish someone would try something different round here, until then I'll be at the Hope where at least you can get some decent beer!

Red Cow, Sandwich

lovely pub that caters well to the tourists (me) and local alike.

Five pumps with a couple of not so common beers on - Loddon and Gadds.

food looked good but was getting a curry so didnt try it

Fountain Inn, Oldwood St Michaels

Think this place may have closed now

The Smoke Bar And Diner, Tooting

this place has most of the elements of a good bar - everything except decent beer and atmosphere.

went the other night late on aFriday and the place was literally dead.

I feel sorry for the owners as they seem to make an effort with DJs and theme nights (the 4 July USA night was a laugh for a while) but generally there really is no atmosphere.

The Lord Clyde, Borough

Happened across this pub on an unplanned trip to the area, was half expecting for me and my mate (mid twenties)to be treated as outsiders / unwelcome youngsters.
Couldn't have been more wrong - we recieved an excelent welcome from the (presumably) couple behind the bar, the service was impeccable and the spitfire was lovely, regrettably didn't have more time to spend a try a couple of others

The Bell, Pensax

brilliant pub for beer lovers, probably best i've ever been in. landlord is good and Ian the barman is one of the best ever!
great beer festival - although i prefer it when its quieter.

to the comment below about finding a pub like this in London - not a chance i'm sad to say as have now moved there myself!

The Talbot, Knightwick

top top pub in the middle of nowhere - but worth the trip. great staff beer and locals. grow and rear their own food. In London the dirty chains would be clambering over each other far a place like this and then turn it into a gimmick. They just don't understand, places like this don't do things because its trendy, they do them because they want to.

The Eagle And Child, Stow On The Wold

not really a pub more of a restaurant, but reasonable prices (compared to london)good beer.
A bit of a strange experience - at first we were seated in the consevatory - not great at 9pm in early march, when we asked if we coud sit in the restaurant where there was a clear table for two, we were told we couldn't because there was a woman with a pram in the table next to it and she needed to rock her baby to stop it crying! fortunately before we ordered another group left and at a second request we were moved into the warm!

however the waiter was friendly, the food was great and it came to 40 for the two of us - although i had a couple of pints of the lovely beer and GF had soft drink rather than wine.

The Queens Head, Stow on the Wold

great pub with friendly staff and locals - on a break me and my girlfriend thought we wouldn't try the same place twice as we wanted to try a few places, but quality and value meant we came here for a lunch and an evening meal!

Had a chat with the locals shame that sort of thing is a rarity nowadays!"

Only minor downside is that while the donnington ales were lovely there are no guest ales. 9/10!

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

went here with my missus the other day, good pub, busy, but didnt have too much trouble getting served.

seems quite studenty which is not really a bad thing and may explain why its not really in great nick and also the staffing problems (students tend not too go into work if they have a bit of a hangover and an essay to do - they jsut dont turn up then go and work in another bar when they need some cash.)

but this could also be down to a tight manager/owner who is making decent money and doesnt awant to fork out on a couple of extra shifts and a revamp.

didnt try the food.

The beer selection is good in a way, but real ale was two choices: youngs bitter or fullers porter - hardly inspiring , also both finished before we had left.

the fruli was good though and you get the impression the barstaff would be friendly if they had teh time!

would happily come here in the summer and sit outside with a fruli or hoegarden

The Falcon, Clapham Junction

lovely pub - and the staff i spoke to were very friendly - I often wonder if the people who say staff are unfriendly ever actually go to the trouble of initiating a conversation - great beer selection and decent quality.

the building is awesome - however the last time i was in there after work there was a wierd pickpocket/prostitute woman hassling people and a crazy/drugged guy walking around shouting to himself. not exactly waht you want.

shame its been taken over by nicholsons - although they do good beer selection - they really market themselves to tourists with their 'famous for...' food 'specialities' the food is generally shoddy not had it in the Falcon tho.

Balham Bowls Club, Balham

great pub with lovely staff - manager was great craic actually making an effort to start conversation and all other staff were good fun.

the landlord (beer) is good but not sure if the pump is set up right as it seems to take about eight drags on the pump to get a pint!

also its not cheap - but where is nowadays!

The Regent, Balham

Decent pub with good selection of real ale which is well kept - staff are ok the northern irish manager is a good laugh.

Brilliant for sport - although it does get packed on certain days. Burgers are great other food ok. Although i have been there when half the menu hasn't been available on a Sunday night.

The Sunday night quiz is popular and well run.
