Bar Original, Surrey Quays

Urgh. Overpriced and full of chavs. Got a pitcher of something and it was quite obviously watered down, as well as having a mountain of ice in it.
You're better off making the short walk to the bar at Frankie and Benny's or the Wetherspoons on Lower Road.

The China Hall, Surrey Quays

My dad used to take me in here when I was a kid and sit me down with a lemonade and bag of crisps so he could play darts and pool. 15 years on, the atmosphere and decor have barely changed, if at all, and I've upgraded to having vodka in my lemonade! I like the fact that it's not pretentious and remains a nice little boozer.
Have to say I agree with moncrief's comment 100%.

The Farriers Arms, Rotherhithe

Friendly little bog-standard South London boozer. Looks a bit rough on the outside, and is rather small and narrow, but there's a pool table, telly (which I belive has Sky), fruit machine, small beer garden at the back and a juke box (with a whole selection of old favourites and irish classics haha).

22 Feb 2008 16:35

Pitcher and Piano, Tower Hill

Went here last week and wasn't impressed. Firstly, the staff didn't seem to know the price of the drinks, as we were charged something different every time we went to the bar, despite ordering exactly the same drink every time!
The staff were a bit surly and miserable. Toilets were unclean, out of tissue and smelly. Not a place I want to come back to in a hurry.

Mary Janes, Aldgate

Went here for a friend's birthday last month and spent most of my time outside! Inside was over crowded and had to constantly dodge the pervy 30+ city blokes who thought it was cool to go on about how much they earned and putting drinks on their plastic (dahling), which held up the queues at the bar. Won't even bother starting on the irritating, gobby chavs that were also stumbling about.
The staff were pretty rubbish, apart from one of the barmen who made a real effort to keep an eye on the order of people waiting to be served at the bar, but the drinks were ridiculously over-priced and most of the cocktails were a con as the glasses were filled about 80% crushed ice to 20% actual drink. Don't really want to pay 7 + for a glass of ice really. Stick to a Kir Royale or something if you want a cocktail- at least then you will get a proper drink, rather than just a mouthful!

The White Hart, Whitechapel

This place used to be packed on Friday/Saturday nights, but have been past a few times recently and it's seemed pretty empty. Not sure what's happened, because we used to have a great time in there a couple of years ago (apart from trying to dodge the awful, gobby chavs)!

22 Feb 2008 15:56

The Blind Beggar, Whitechapel

To be honest, this pub is alright. Just alright. Not a bad crowd go in there, the staff are fairly friendly (as are the resident cats who like to lie by the fires) and the drinks, well spirits at least, are not overly expensive. However there's nothing that really makes it stand out from any other local pub apart from the fact it's famous. And it's a bit irritating that it only has 1 ladies' loo, so there's often a bit of a scramble to get in there when it's busy!

22 Feb 2008 15:49

The Hayfield, Stepney Green

This place has gone way downhill since my last review 3 years ago! I understand (but don't especially agree with) being charged a couple of quid to get in on a weekend night, but me and my friend have been in the week recently and are still charged and still had to have our photos taken! It seems a bit much as I know the people who run another Scream bar in Greenwich and it's free entry and there's none of this photo-taking lark.

22 Feb 2008 15:28

The Masque Haunt, Old Street

Used to come here on my lunch break during the winter. Drinks are bog standard and the pub has a typical wetherspoons atmosphere. The food is lousy though, I would strongly recommend you avoid it!

3 Aug 2007 19:38

The Eagle, Hoxton

Not a bad little place to come to after work on a Friday afternoon/evening. Usually a few fellow Moorfields coworkers to be seen but it does tend to get a bit busy so if I don't get there early enough to get a seat, I don't bother going at all due to the limited space inside.

3 Aug 2007 19:33

O'Neills, Angel, Islington

Went there about 3 weeks ago and the music was far too loud, far too many people hanging around the bar and not ordering drinks, which is irritating. However, we did apreciate the heat lamps and tables outside so we could smoke in comfort!

3 Aug 2007 19:28

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

Started many a night off in this place. Nothing to rave about, particularly as it gets so packed full of chavs on weekend nights but I've been to worse pubs. Can't moan too much. It's just like a standard Wetherspoons really.

19 Dec 2006 19:11

The North Pole, North Kensington

My family visited the North Pole for a meal not so long ago as we know the manager very well. Although it may sound biased, we couldn't fault the place. The food was excellent and the service was 2nd to none. Never been on a weekend so can't comment on the chavs but I have to say our experience was highly enjoyable.

27 Jul 2006 16:10

The Ship, Redmarshall

A really lovely little pub. My cousin's wedding reception was held here and it was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and, despite being pushed out by wedding guests, the other locals were also friendly and chatty.

27 Jul 2006 15:50

The Griffin, Thornaby

My uncle's local. I have to say this pub is fantastic. The reception after my grandad's funeral was held here last year and everybody was absolutely brilliant. Nice pub, with nice decor and excellent staff.

27 Jul 2006 15:47

The Thornaby-on-Tees National Reserve and Patriotic Club, Thornaby

Quiet little working man's social club. One of the few places that still has a men only bar! But still, the people are friendly and the bingo night is always funny!

27 Jul 2006 15:42

The London and Rye, Catford

Much like any other Wetherspoons, really. The atmosphere isn't bad and the staff are pretty friendly.

27 Jul 2006 15:35

The Ancient Foresters, Bermondsey

Nice, cosy pub with friendly punters and cheap drink!

27 Jul 2006 15:31

The Blue Anchor, Rotherhithe

Friendly local pub and debut gig of local band 'The Horne'.

27 Jul 2006 15:29

The Brockley Barge, Brockley

I go to this pub quite often because it is the half way point between me and a lot of my friends. The proper locals can be a bit of a pain in the backside, but other than that, it has a nice atmosphere and obviously the prices are a bonus! Nothing special, but certainly wouldn't frown upon it.

27 Jul 2006 15:27

The Hobgoblin, New Cross

I have a lot of fond memories of this pub, especially the time they let about 150 of us take over the beer garden all dressed in school uniform last summer. It's not exactly quality, but its friendly and you can't knock the 20% student discount. Plus, the beer garden in the summer always has an advantage over pubs without one! I also like this pub because it's a 5 minute journey from my house (and was round the corner from my school/6th form).

27 Jul 2006 15:23

The Quebec Curve, Surrey Quays

The first time I went here was for an 18th birthday party last year and I had a cracking night. The staff are really friendly and the drinks aren't too overpriced. I've been back a few times since and remain pleased with the service.

27 Jul 2006 12:52

The Litten Tree, Old Street

Wasn't bad for a qucik drink after work. Wouldn't make a habit of it though...

27 Jul 2006 12:49

Moby Dick, Surrey Quays

My friend had his 21st birthday party in here a few weeks ago and we had such a good time! The bar staff were friendly and we couldn't fault anything about the service at all.

27 Jul 2006 12:42

Spice Island, Rotherhithe

I went to Spice Island to watch one of the England games during the World Cup and was sorely dissappointed. Alarm bells started ringing from the start as they were charging admission on the door (albeit only a pound). Inside, they'd run out of ice at least an hour before the match had started and didn't bother to get anymore for the rest of the day and ran out of most bottled drinks due to the fact that everyone was buying refrigerated drinks to compensate the lack of ice! For service as bad as that I could understand if the prices were low or even average, but it was damn expensive!

27 Jul 2006 12:37

The Goldsmiths Tavern, New Cross

I used to go to GMT a lot, before the doormen started behaving like apes. Most of my friends have been barred for ridiculous reasons and the air conditioning scam is dreadful (they put the heating on in the summer and claim the air con is broken so people buy more drinks)plus, GMT is the ONLY place I know that doesn't have mirrors in the loos! It's only saving grace is the pool table!

27 Jul 2006 12:32

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

Over priced and terrible service. Gets too busy on weekend nights, so I wouldn't bother. Go to the Spanish Galleon instead.

27 Jul 2006 12:26

The Spanish Galleon, Greenwich

Nice atmosphere and not too over priced. A nice place to chill, away from the lary students in the Admiral Hardy

27 Jul 2006 12:25

The Coach, Greenwich

Over-priced and not a nice crowd. This pub is more for older people, who don't want the studenty, and equally pretentious atmosphere of the Admiral Hardy.

27 Jul 2006 12:24

Admiral Hardy, Greenwich

Full of pretentious student types and gets far too hot and stuffy on a weekend night. They used to have a massive tank of tropical fish, which looked impressive. The main attraction is being able to sit out in the market under the heat lamps in the winter. Other than that, there's not much reason to go there.

27 Jul 2006 12:20

LHT Urban Bar, Whitechapel

Nice atmosphere and close to the station. Bit expensive tho

12 Dec 2005 20:47

The Hayfield, Stepney Green

Been in here a few times and it's not bad, Particularly if you're a student like myself. Friendly staff and decent prices.

12 Dec 2005 20:43

Soma, Stepney

Not all that, but there's worse. Bit on the expensive side if you compare it to other pubs in the area (which are nicer to drink in). Toilets are a bit dingy as well

12 Dec 2005 20:42

The Old Globe, Stepney

Not a bad little place, specially on Karaoke night. Only thing is, it's a bit dark!

12 Dec 2005 20:40

The Half Moon, Stepney Green

I go in this pub a fiar bit because it's over the road from where we work. Nothing to write home about, but I'm glad it shows the football now (provided the guy who owns the dish is at home and turns the sky on!). Usman one of the managers is lovely. Just don't sit in the corner by the ladies because that's the resident drunk's seat

12 Dec 2005 20:39

Yates's, Leicester Square

Went there last year and although the music wasn't bad and it was pretty packed, the drinks are WAY too expensive! Plus it was full of pervy foreign guys which i suppose is ok i you like that sort of thing, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Oh and if you want a lollipop from the loos just nick one when the woman is asleep or something coz my mate got caught and was rather embarrassed lol.

21 Feb 2005 13:17

The New Cross Inn / Bar Alchemy, New Cross

I still know this place as New Cross Inn and go most weekends. The bouncers are really friendly once you get to know them and the drinks arent too badly priced really. I like the music on Saturday nights (mixes of hip hop and garage) but its nice to go in and play pool during the week too.

21 Feb 2005 13:15

The Caulkers, Surrey Quays

Since Christmas the Caulkers has been taken over by new staff and a new landlord and I have to say it's a lot cleaner!

21 Feb 2005 13:05

Graduate, Greenwich

A friendly pub but not the most attractive of pubs. Typical old man boozer but the staff are all friendly and now and again there are a couple of youthful regulars under the age of 40.

21 Feb 2005 13:04

The Goldsmiths Tavern, New Cross

Not a bad place really, used to be better a couple of years ago but has a decent sized dancefloor that's a great place to watch the sad old dudes dancing to cheesy 80s music during the week! Prices of drinks are about average for London I suppose, but I prefer New Cross Inn, over the road.

21 Feb 2005 13:03

The Caulkers, Surrey Quays

I used to visit this pub all the time, as it is my local, but to be honest its not a pleasant place to be. The only reason I used to go in there is coz i know the landlord and most of the punters. Word of advice, if your not from Bermondsey/Surrey Quays then watch yourself! Plus the place is pretty damn dirty.

27 Jan 2005 16:32

The Walpole Arms, New Cross

I used to go there on a weekend before it turned into a bloody creche! nowadays the average age in there is about 14. I feel old and I'm only 18 myself! Plus, crap air con, even worse sound system and the DJs...no comment.

27 Jan 2005 16:29

St Christopher's Inn, Greenwich

It's alright in there, but too expensive and can feel a little claustrophobic! However, the staff are friendly as are the bouncers (specially Moses)

27 Jan 2005 16:25

The Fox on the Hill, Denmark Hill

It's a wetherspoons, can't expect too much really. However, I must say it's my mates local and I've been in worse pubs!

27 Jan 2005 16:19

The Surrey Docks, Surrey Quays

For all I can see how ppl would find it crap I feel being a Bermondsey resident I should do my bit for the old place! true, its a bit crap but there are worse places and as for Dan's comments...I know most of the people who go in there and they don't fight for no reason. He must have caught them on a bad day coz I've been going in there for years and only seen a couple of fights. nuff said.
